Congratulations to all who participated!!!! All-Region Phase I and Phase II Auditions

So what is this All-Region thing? All-Region is a highly competitive audition comprised of students from Prosper, Little Elm, Frisco and Plano ISDs. All participating students have been working on the three audition pieces made available back in late July. During the audition, each student will play an excerpt from each of the three selected etudes for a blind panel consisting of 5 judges. Students will be given a reporting time for their room to begin. The audition is organized in a “round robin” format, consisting of 20-25 other students in each room. Students will be ranked by all judges and their overall score will determine the chair order.

A predetermined amount of each instrument will advance to the Phase II audition which will be held on Monday, December 9th at Plano Senior High. The auditions for Phase II are similar to that of Phase I, however it will be over a different cut of all three etudes than Phase I (unless the full piece was played in Phase I). The scoring will be the same as in Phase I auditions and the top performers out of each instrument group will advance to the Area Level Audition which will be held on Saturday, January 11th at Coppell HS. Students that advance to the Area level will participate in one last audition and the top performers out of each instrumental group will become Texas All-State Musicians!

9th Grade All-Region All 9th grade students have the option of participating in the 9th grade all-region process as well. As stated on the band calendar, the 9th all-region process will be held on Thursday, December 12th at Clark High School in Plano ISD. The 9th All-Region audition is designed as a “crash course” of the all-region process with students preparing a smaller portion of the all-

3

region music that was released back in July. Unlike All-Region, the 9th grade all-region is a one-time audition. Students will be ranked by all judges and their overall score will determine the chair order. A predetermined amount of each instrument will then be awarded a placement in the 2019-20 Region 24 All-Region Band Clinic and Concert which will be held on January 16th & 17th.

TMEA REGION 24 High School Region Band Auditions

Student Information

WHEN: Phase II - Monday, December 9, 2019 Report Time 5:00 p.m. (if you are in the first group) WHERE: Plano Senior High School – 2200 Independence Pkwy. Plano, TX 75075 Welcome to Plano Senior High School and the TMEA Region 24 All-Region Band Auditions. Please read ALL of the following information so that you are familiar with the policies and procedures regarding the audition process. This will greatly enhance your experience during the auditions. Discuss any questions you have with your director prior to your arrival. 1. PARKING: East Parking Lot (Access from Park Blvd. and Westside Dr.). 2. WARM-UP: Cafeteria (1st Floor “C” Building, across the pond from East Parking Lot). If a room monitor calls for your group to audition, you must immediately proceed to the audition room. Periodic “in-room” warm-ups will be given by your room monitor during the audition.

3. ROOM ASSIGNMENTS: These should be given to you by your director prior to your arrival along with maps. They will also be posted on the day(s) of auditions. SEE ATTACHED ROOM ASSIGNMENTS AND MAPS.

4. SIGN-IN TIMES: Students will audition in groups during a designated time slot. Your director will provide you with this information. Students may NOT perform in another time slot. If a student fails to show up with their group they will be SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION. If you are late, report immediately to the Contest Office (PSHS Library, 2nd Floor “C” Building).

5. SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT TIMES: Students in the first groups of Phase 2 will actually begin the audition around 5:45pm respectively. All others should be aware that delays may and will occur. The sign-in times do not necessarily mark the start of the audition. While every effort will be made to complete the auditions as scheduled, students and parents should allow for extra time.

6. STUDENT SIGN-IN PROCESS: Each student will need to be at the room per their sign-in time on the room assignment list. Be sure to write down your audition letter and keep it with you at all times. This letter should be kept confidential until AFTER the entire audition is complete.

7. “IN THE ROOM” PROCEDURE: Students of each auditioning group will be in the room at the same time. Your room monitor will give all instructions inside the room. No communication between the auditioning students and the judges is permitted. Each student will audition one at a time according to their letter assignment (round robin style). THE STUDENT SHARES EQUAL RESPONSIBILITY THAT THEIR CORRECT AUDITION NUMBER IS CALLED OUT BEFORE THEY BEGIN THEIR AUDITION. All students in the group must remain in the room until their entire group is done. Once their group is finished they are free to leave the contest. EXCEPTION: All-Region Orchestra instruments. Please see Paragraph 13 below for more info. Results will be posted once the ENTIRE ROOM has finished. CELL PHONES, ipods, radios, etc. are expressly prohibited in the room.

8. PERCUSSION: Percussion students will follow all of the above procedures except: The percussion audition will be separated into three rooms – snare, mallets, and timpani. Once each room is complete, the students AND the judges will rotate to the next room and continue the audition. This will be repeated once more allowing each student to audition in each of the three areas. Percussion students may choose to bring their own instruments, however, one of each will be provided should you need them.

9. PERCUSSION LOADING/UNLOADING: Access Percussion Loading Zone from Park Blvd. Percussion unloading should take place on the south side of “D” Building (Fine Arts). Look for the large antennae on the roof and garage doors leading inside the building. SEE “D” BUILDING MAP.

10. RESULT POSTINGS: All results will be posted in the Cafeteria.

*NOTE: RESULTS ARE NOT OFFICAL UNTIL 1 HOUR AFTER THE ENTIRE PHASE IS OVER.*

11. CONCESSIONS: Students are encouraged to eat before arriving. Concessions will be available in the Cafeteria.

12. CONTEST OFFICE: The contest office is located in the PSHS Library (2nd Floor “C” Building) and is available only to directors and staff. 13. PHASE 2/ALL-REGION ORCHESTRA: Following the completion of Phase 2 all students playing instruments used in All-Region Orchestra must return to their room within 15 minutes after the end of the final round of auditions at which time the rank order will be announced and the students will be given the opportunity to participate in the All-Region Orchestra. Students MUST be present for this selection process. When all All-Region Orchestra seats have been filled, students will be dismissed and final results will be posted in the cafeteria. NO FURTHER RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE ROOM. 14. AREA AUDITIONS: All students advancing to Area must report to the Contest Office (PSHS Library, 2nd floor, Building C) to pay the $7.00 Area fee before they leave campus. 15. ALL-REGION BAND MUSIC: Your directors will pick up your All-Region music. Finally, students are asked to remain in the cafeteria when not auditioning. Hallways, classrooms and “other” areas of the building are off limits. It is expected that a positive behavior and attitude will be exhibited by each student auditioning. Parents are asked to remain in the cafeteria during auditions. Good luck and best wishes for your audition.
