Byron, Michigan–For 16-year-old Erik Jones, the 2012 racing season has been a year full of developing his skills on the race track. Now that the year is winding to a close, Jones has put all his knowledge to use while pulling double duty for the first time during the 45th an- nual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. “This season I have had a lot of fun learning what it is like to jump in and out of different cars,” stated Jones. “From the heavy ARCA car to the light weight late models, I have had to learn how to quickly adjust. I’m really enjoyed to doing double duty during the Derby. Five Flags Speed- way is a hard track to pass on and can be really rough on tires, so getting to race the Pro Late Model the night before in the Snowflake was a great advantage for the Derby on Sunday.” Last year, Jones competed in the Allen Turner Snowflake 100. Taking his time he worked his way to the front of the pack but with only five laps remaining tragedy struck and sent Jones loading up a broken race car. Blue Wahoos, Ice Flyers Team Up for Hockey Clinic - On

Infield Ice Rink

For Immediate Release: In another first for Pensacola, the Cincinnati Reds Double-A Affiliate Blue Wa-hoos are teaming up with the Pensa-cola Ice Flyers hockey team to host a two-hour hockey camp at the Blue Wahoos’ Winter Wonderland ice rink at the Maritime Park stadium. On Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm, members of the Ice Flyers professional hockey team will hold a clinic for children ages 8

to 13 years old. The camp will cover the basics of ice hockey, and will in-clude time for autographs and ques-tions with the Ice Flyer players. Jonathan Griffith, Executive Vice President for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, said that the team had been looking for ways to partner with the Ice Flyers, and the Winter Wonder-land provided the perfect opportunity. “As a ball club and a community or-ganization, we are always looking for new ways to offer the community - in-cluding other sports fans - an oppor-tunity to use this fantastic stadium. Whether it is the Soul Bowl, movie nights, the Winter Wonderland, or a hockey clinic on an ice rink in the in-field, we want to make this truly be the community’s stadium,” said Griffith. “The Ice Flyers are a great group

to partner with, and we hope that this hockey camp will be an excit-ing opportunity for young people in the area to learn from their profes-sional players, learn about the game of hockey, and hopefully provide an-other opportunity for the community to enjoy this fantastic stadium,” Grif-fith continued. “Besides, where else can you play ice hockey on a base-ball field in Florida?” joked Griffith. Tickets for the Hockey Camp cost $50, and include skate rental, a ticket

to an Ice Flyers game, a ticket to the Blue Wahoos’ Winter Wonderland, food and drink, instruction from the Ice Flyers players, and time for au-tographs and Q&A with the players. For more information, or to pur-chase tickets, please contact the Blue Wahoos at (850) 934-8444 or visit www.BlueWahoos.com.

Ready on the left! Ready on the right! All ready on the firing line! Fire! While this might not seem like the sort of thing you would hear shouted at a “family friendly” event. It’s exactly what several lo-cal families, groups of friends and individuals who made new friends experienced in early December at the Escambia River Gun Club. Of the 40+ participants, about 30% were youths and 25% were female. The Escambia River Gun Club in Cantonment Florida (ERGC) hosts four Project Appleseed rifle marks-manship clinics each year. At this event, participants learn proper ri-fle marksmanship skills. The skills taught are not just basic skills, they are foundational skills. The information provided at an Apple-seed will train new rifle shooters and enhance the accuracy of ex-perienced shooters. Unlike many shooting programs, there is a lot of shooting. It is recommended that you bring 500 rounds for both days. The Appleseed Project is a program provided by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association (RWVA), a 501 (c)(3) organization. Appleseed is na-tionwide with events in all 50 states and over 1000 events this year alone. In addition to the high quality rifle

marksmanship training, Appleseed teaches the history of the events of April 19th, 1775 - the battle of Lexing-ton/Concord, “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World” and the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. The history is provided in a heartfelt and personalized manner, with informa-tion and details probably not covered in public or private schools today. The next Pensacola Appleseed is scheduled for February 2nd and 3rd. It is best to attend both days but you can attend either Saturday or Sunday as well. It is strongly recom-mended that you pre-register for the event. Nearly any type of rifle will work and there is a list of suggested items to bring along on the Apple-seed website. There may also be loaner rifles available but it is best to get with the local contact ahead of the event to arrange for that. Can’t make February? Appleseed will also take place in Pensacola the first weekend in April, October and December. There are also events being held nationally nearly every weekend. with a handful of big name late model races under his belt. Bring-ing back former crew chief, Rich Lushes, Erik is feeling confi-dent that he will fin-ish the year off strong. “Having Rich back on the team is really great,” proclaimed Jones. “I work well with him and I’m confident he will provide me with two great cars. Fans should be looking for-ward to some great rac-ing and hopefully they

will see the Paragon Corvette Reproductions Chevy in Victory Lane.” To learn more about Erik Jones Racing be sure to check out www.erikjonesracing.com, follow him on twitter @erik_jones, “Like” him on facebook, and download his free App to your smartphone.
