ANNOUNCEMENTS

MUSICAL INTERLUDE AND LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES

From the Christ Candle we light the candles that represent our community of faith.

OPENING PRAYER**

Almighty God,

your Son Jesus Christ was presented in the temple

and acclaimed the glory of Israel

and the light of the nations.

Grant that in him we may be presented to you

and in the world may reflect his glory;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and forever.

Amen

HYMN OF PRAISE**664 Morning Has Broken

WE RECEIVE GOD’S GRACE

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of grace and truth,

in Jesus Christ you came among us

as light shining in darkness.

We confess that we have not welcomed the light,

or trusted good news to be good.

We have closed our eyes to glory in our midst,

expecting little, and hoping for less.

Forgive our doubt, and renew our hope,

so that we may receive the fullness of your grace,

And live in the truth of Christ the Lord.

2009 with a blue ribbon finish in the “Great American Duet Sing Off” on

A Note on Applause and Worship in the Reformed Tradition

Among Presbyterians and other Protestants in the Reformed or Calvinist tradition, it is

common to refrain from applause during worship, except when children are involved.

In the context of Reformed worship, a lack of applause does not signify a lack of

appreciation. Rather, it is a way of acknowledging that music and other artistic expressions

in worship are not performed as entertainment but as offerings of praise to God.

Restrooms are located in the

building on the right side

of the courtyard
