BASILICA OF ST. MARY STAFF

Oremus pro invicem. “Let us pray for each other.”

Father Edward C. Hathaway

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On this Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 23, we are just one day away from our first Christmas Mass celebrat-ing the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Come Lord Jesus, indeed! On behalf of Fathers Andrew, David, Kevin, Bresnahan, Deacon James and myself, I wish you and your family a very “Mary Christ-Mass” Season! That season begins with our vigil Masses on Christmas Eve (see the schedule on page 5) and continues through the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, this year on January 13th. It is certainly liturgically correct to keep your Christmas decorations throughout that time to continue the joy of this season. I am truly grateful to Almighty God for the opportunity to serve you and your family as your spiritual shepherd in this vibrant and historic parish of the Basilica of St. Mary, the eldest daughter of the Diocese of Arlington. Thank you for your prayers and support that have enabled us to accomplish so much for the glory of God and for the good of our Church. Very little could have been achieved this past year without the dedication of our excellent parish staff and all of our many parish volunteers who give of them-selves so generously. May the peace and joy Jesus, Mary and Joseph knew on that first Christmas morning be yours this Christmas, and throughout the New Year. I will remember you and your family in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Christmas Day.

To allow our staff to celebrate Christmas and the New Year

with family and friends, our Parish Offices at 313 Duke Street

will be closed Monday, December 24

through Tuesday, January 1.

Please see page 5 & our website for the Basilica Christmas and New Year Mass Schedule.
