2014 APWA Mid-America Conference & Exhibit 2014 APWA Mid-America Conference & Exhibit Show Update

When: May 21-23, 2014

Where: Overland Park Convention Center - Overland Park, Kansas

Next spring, we experience another MID-AM tradition - the best Pub-

lic Works-specific exhibit show in the Midwest! We aim to break the

100 exhibitor mark again in 2014, when equipment suppliers, vendors,

design professionals and other friends of the public works community

descend upon the Overland Park Convention Center, taking advantage

of the nearly 60,000-sf of indoor exhibit space to display their goods

and services to the assembled members of our industry from the four-

state region.

Once again, the Management Committee is preparing a program schedule that will allow plenty of

opportunity for networking in the exhibit hall, starting with the Get Acquainted Reception on the

evening of Wednesday, May 21st. The following day will provide several exhibit-hall refreshment

breaks for attendees to mingle between education sessions. We will also repeat the hugely suc-

cessful joint National Public Works Week celebration luncheon, with the Mid-Am attendees being

joined by hundreds of APWA members from the KC Metro Chapter to celebrate our annual recognition

of the public works profession. Lunch tickets include a one-day exhibit hall pass, allowing attendees to arrive

early or stay after to experience the 2014 Mid-Am Exhibit Show as a bonus.. Other state chapters are

being encouraged to arrange for members from their chapters to make the trek to Kansas City for

the day and be a part of the tradition.

The exhibitor packets should be available within a matter of weeks, along with the Mid-America

Conference website, allowing registration to begin soon. Details will be posted on the KC Metro

Chapter website as the information becomes available – here is the URL:

How to get buy-in for Asset Management Programs

Date: December 12, 2013

Location: City of Maryland Heights, City Hall

Time: 10am - Noon

Every public works agency is charged with managing their community’s development plans and projects. However, many communi-

ties don’t know what assets and equipment they have nor what condition the assets are in.

It’s extremely difficult to successfully complete directives or budget resources if you don’t know what assets are at your disposal. In

this session representatives from 2 agencies will focus on why asset management programs are utilized, what information they can

provide and how they got staff buy in to participate in the program.

After viewing this program participants will be better able to:

1. Explain why asset management is a critical function in any public works agency

2. Correlate why knowing the condition of your assets helps secure funding for operations and maintenance

3. Determine how an asset management system can benefit front line employees in their day to day work
