campaign which has one simple goal: to ensure Ireland keeps its promise to the world’s poorest people.

Turn your support for overseas aid into actual political pressure to protect the aid budget – go to

www.ActNow2015.ie today and send a letter to their local TDs urging them to ensure that Ireland keeps its promise to the world: to spend at least 0.7% (that’s just 70c in every €100) of

Debate on 1 September from 6.15 - 7.45pm in the European Commission Building, Dawson Street, Dublin 2. Chair: Joan Burton, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. Guest speakers: Jim Power, Head of

Investment Strategy and Chief Economist at Friends First; and Justin Kilcullen, Director of Trócaire will

(6) Facilitating Engagement for Development in Eastern Europe: 15 September, 10 am – 5 pm Irish

Aid Volunteering and Information Centre, 27-31 Upper O’Connell Street, Dublin 1. This is the fifth of a series of six workshops, organised by the Eastern Europe Aid & Development Network (EEADN) and Dtalk,

(8) The Community Sector – A Cut Too Far: 15 September, 2-4 pm, Liberty Hall Theatre, Dublin 1.

(9) New Voices in Development: Older People on the Global Agenda: 1 October, Davenport Hotel, Merrion Street Lower, Dublin 2. This Conference is being held to celebrate UN International Day of Older

Persons and is one of Age Action’s key contributions to Positive Ageing Week 2010. It will interest Irish aid

agencies and other non-governmental organisations that wish to explore international development policy and practice from an older person’s perspective. The Conference will be held following the UN Review of

the Millennium Development Goals and will explore the implications of this Review for older people. It will also interest people in Ireland who are concerned with Irish policy and practice relating to older people

(5) Trócaire seeks:

Programme Leader, Sustainable Livelihoods: As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team,

the Programme Leader will actively contribute towards the overall leadership and management of the

organisation. S/he will have specific responsibility for overseeing the implementation of organisational

strategy in relation to the Sustainable Livelihoods programme, and updating that strategy as appropriate. S/he will be responsible for developing new and creative approaches towards our

livelihoods work, including the measurement of impact and documentation of learning. S/he will also lead on the development of advocacy and policy positions in relation to Livelihoods work. S/he will be

responsible for ensuring that Livelihoods work at home and abroad is implemented in line with the

priorities and objectives of the strategic plan, and with best practice in the sector. Closing date: 6 September.

Institutional Funding Officer, Horn and East Africa: Scope: To increase and broaden the

institutional funding base of programmes by developing a co-financing strategy supportive of the

Regional Strategic Plan; assist in proposal development and finalise reports for donors, in agreement with relevant Programme Officers and Regional Management; support the capacity of Programme

Staff and partners to develop and manage co-financing contracts; establish and strengthen

relationships with current and potential donors; and develop and maintain a full understanding of all donor strategies, priorities and requirements. Closing date: 6 September.

Humanitarian Programme Coordinator: Working closely with the Programme Leader the

Programme Coordinator will focus primarily on programme (protection, preparedness work, response

Regional Programme Manager, Central & West Africa region: This post is responsible for

providing leadership and strategic direction to Trócaire’s programme in Sierra Leone and Liberia, will

Programme Officer – Palestine (Maternity Cover): The Programme Officer is responsible for the

day-to-day management of the programme portfolio and the research and development of advocacy

(11) The Africa Centre invites tenders:

to restructure Website (www.africacentre.ie): Last modified in 2009, the site now requires new

functionalities. A contract will be awarded upon completion of a report from the contractors innovative

recommendations for the website. The contractor would be expected to restructure the website based on a system that is easy to use for people who have only limited experience in web publishing. It

should be based on the website design as described above. The website should be flexible and allow future extension of its functionality, as required. A first version of the updated website should be

(13) The Law Society of Ireland Certificate in Human Rights: beginning 3 November. The course will run over a three-month period culminating in a written assessment to be submitted by 4 February 2011.

(2) Volunteer Adjudicators required for Concern Debates: The Debates are Concern Worldwide’s flagship schools activity and about 150 secondary schools across Ireland take part annually. They give

senior cycle students the opportunity to research and debate issues which affect those living in the developing world. The Debates are judged by volunteer adjudicators who come from a wide variety of

backgrounds. Volunteers are currently being recruited to join the panel. No experience necessary. It’s a

great way to learn more about development issues and to hear the views of young people. Training and information sessions will run throughout the country from August to October. To find out more please go

(3) Call for Entries for Radharc Awards 2010 – The awards are presented to the producers of

documentaries of outstanding quality, which address national or international topics of social justice, morality or faith. There is no requirement that the documentary be of any specific religious adherence, but

it should portray positive human values and should imply a challenge to the moral conscience of the kind that distinguished many of the Radharc films. Entries are invited in two categories with the first being for
