PAM: What about dating? How usually ask the other person out? Or do we date in Sweden? THE PANEL:

- I think it is very different, depending on what country you´re from for example, well, I don´t know this from personal experience but I know from TV-shows from America it seems very, very normal to go out dating and to ask someone out on a date, yeah you know, stuff like that. But in Sweden it´s not the same thing. I don´t think you like “Do you want to go out on a date with me?” It’s more like, do you want to, like get an ice-cream, I don´t know, watch a movie or like start texting or something, it´s not like going out on date in the same way that it seem to be in America.

- Uh, I think dating, uh, maybe is more of a grown up thing, uh, possibly I mean I know of people, my age, that has gone on dates but I think it´s becoming less and less common and I think people get to know each other in a less formal environment right now.

- I think that now, you know, we are communicating with each other all the time we are either on Facebook or on our mobiles or in school, so I mean it definitely is less formal..

- That is the part that is really awkward - I think the best way is just to ask, I mean it’s not that hard. It’s

like eight words; “ Do-you –want-to-be-together-with-me” it’s not that hard, I don´t really see the awkward part because if you’re with someone who you like and you feel that they like you, then it shouldn´t be awkward to ask them what they think about your relation.

- I would never, in my life, ask someone that, I would never.. - Why not? - No, because I´m the girl and I wouldn´t do that, no, no never

PAM: So you think it’s the boy’s responsibility to say “This is my girlfriend” and then you are?

- Yes, no, he can´t just say “This is my girlfriend” because his not the boss of me, uhh…

- Yeah and if I don´t accept it then he knows I don´t want to get together with him.

- That is just awkward, I mean.. - No because then we never have to see each other again. - I defiantly think you should ask face to face I think it´s the most

natural way and personal I think it feels really good, because it is very honest and sincere and… romantic, I don´t know, you should call it, I would never try to Facebook relationship someone.

PAM: So do we have any kind of dating rules then in Sweden?

- Uhum, well I mean it´s always going to be some, some boundaries in relationships, but I think the rules that we may have had previously have pretty much gone away completely

- going out on a fancy dinner and buying flowers can be much more stressful and something you have to worry about even though it doesn’t have to be that big of a deal.

- I think traditional dating situations seem like so much effort for something that should be natural because it´s just two people who want to be in a relationship. It’s nothing more than that.

PAM: And how do you know when you are in a relationship?

- Uhm, well I think, uhm, even if you can feel very connected to a certain person, and maybe you spend a lot of time together or, uhm, I mean, you maybe call each other on the phone every day or something like that I don´t think you can really feel in a relationship until you talked to the person about it. And of course that can be really, a, really horribly experience and you can be really nervous but I think after you talked to the person and you decided with that person that, yeah, now we are not going to be with other people just be with each other then I think you can feel you are in a relationship.

- And when you have changed your relationship status on Facebook then it´s really on “black and white” but otherwise I think it´s just something you have to talk about. I don´t know if you heard about the expression “DTR”, “define the relationship”, so it´s just something you have to talk about, it doesn’t have to be that bad as you might imagine it to be.

- I have lots of friends who are really sensitive about their relationship status on Facebook, uhm, you know, it´s actually, for them at least it feels like something very kind of public and that you are announcing it to the world, so that can be the final step of the modern, you know, relationship rules.

PAM: Does it differ how you approach a girl or a boy if you are in love with someone?

- I think it differs more from person to person then from, with gender..

- Yeah, exactly, I think the same thing. Because, like, different

- Yeah, and chemistry is important, I think

Once I dated a professional rugby player by mistake, and as well as three broken ribs I ended up shelling up for everything! Here is easier Pam, because all the girls say they like walking in the woods, and that´s free! PAM: So do you kiss on a first date? BB: Kissing can tell you a lot about a person Pam! Like, do they have bad breath? Do they smoke? Are they smoking at that moment? Because, that can be painful. PAM: Have you kissed a smoking Swede?
