The NVISION 9000 control system is an advanced platform for routing control. Different configurations of the system controllers are available to address a broad range of requirements with regards to features, function and redundancy. NV960 uses a single 2 RU system controller, NV965 uses a pair of 2 RU system controllers to offer full redundancy. NV967 includes a pair of system controllers, RS485 port cards, NV9700 remote diagnostic and change-over panel, as well as all cables required to connect the included components together.NV920 is the latest enterprise-class controller hardware, which offers single or redundant config-

urations in a 1 RU rack size. The NV920 runs the same NV9000 software as the NV960 platform, and includes many of the same options, but fewer TCP/IP ports and less serial control functionality. The NV920 is ideal for most applications, especially when rack space, heat emission and power consumption are concerns. The NV960 hardware should be used for Dynamic Hybrid Pathfinding (DHP) applications. All system controllers are rack mounted and come with redundant power supplies. Customers must supply all monitors, keyboards or mice to be connected to the system controller platforms.

POWERFUL CONTROL HARDWARE

Grass Valley offers two choices for enterprise-class NVISION 9000 controllers:

The NVISION 920 can be either a single or dual redundant controller in 1 RU, perfect for all applications in which rackspace, low noise and low power/heat considerations are paramount.

The NV960 controllers are 2 RU servers designed for maximum net-work and router/panel capacity for complex, multirouter/multicontrol system applications.

Dual redundancy options for both controllers provide hot-standby, mirrored redundancy for continu-ous, fail-safe operation in the most demanding environments.

DYNAMIC UPDATES: NO NEED FOR RESTARTS

Another aspect of the system’s resilience is its dynamic configura-tion capability. The system can be reconfigured for many new work-flow parameters, without a require-ment to restart the system or take it offline.

The process of reconfiguration is speeded by the efficient design of the database which avoids duplica-tion of data entry.

INSTANT RECALL OF “SYSTEM SNAPSHOTS”

To improve productivity in produc-tion control rooms, the controllers allow saving and recalling of “sys-tem snapshots,” which capture the current NVISION 9000 configu-ration, as well as the current state of the crosspoint image in all the routers in the system. This allows an operator to save configurations for specific productions, and then instantly re-load them when they are required for the next production.

FLEXIBLE, VERSATILE ARCHITECTURE

Grass Valley NVISION routers offer outstanding control flexibility, and can be configured for centralized or distributed operations. In essence, the system can be readily adapted for different workflows and adminis-tration requirements.

The NVISION 9000 control system leverages the power of the Grass Valley Hybrid Routing architecture that offers the convenience of inte-grated audio processing and sim-plified cable management with no compromises on reliability.

NVISION 9000’s optional DHP (Dynamic Hybrid Pathfinding) auto-matically routes signals via the audio processing modules when-ever required, under manual or automated control, and can extend hybrid audio functionality even when the NVISION router is not a “full hybrid” router.

FEWER RESTARTS UNPRECEDENTED, FACILITY WIDE INTEGRATION

NVISION routers provide excep-tional integration across a facility, including with multiviewers, signal processors, master control switch-ers and production switchers. This streamlines facility hardware and lowers costs, and can also deliver enhanced operator productivity from improved control systems (see Kaleido multiviewers).

ADVANCED TALLY MANAGEMENT

The NVISION 9000 control system offers advanced tally management with production switchers and monitor wall systems in control rooms. The system also provides rich integration with third-party tally controllers.

EASIER TRANSITION TO 3G/HD FROM LEGACY ROUTING

With highly effective bridging with legacy third-party routers, the NVISION controller allows a sim-pler transition to 3G/HD. A phased move to 3G/HD can be made, with minimal disruption and cost, by first controlling an NVISION router with an existing supported third-party controller. Subsequently, the facil-ity can move to a more advanced NVISION control system.

ADVANCED RELEGENDABLE NVISION CONTROL PANELS

A wide array of control panels is available to address the workflow requirements of different operator positions, including soft panels, hard panels, and new relegendable LCD panels. These panels can all be “mixed-and-matched” to suit indi-vidual station requirements.

INTEGRATION WITH COMPACT ROUTER SYSTEM

The highly space and cost effi-cient NVISION Compact routers can be controlled by the NVISION 9000 controller. This brings more advanced control options to the NVISION Compact routers range, and allows full integration of sys-tems comprising NVISION Compact routers and other NVISION routers.

ADVANCED TIE-LINE MANAGEMENT

The system can be configured for very large systems, with up to 400 control panels and up to 250 rout-ers per system controller. Complex interactions with multiple routers can be configured using advanced multi-hop, tie-line management abilities.

Sources/destinations buttons: sim-ply choose your destination, then your desired source, and take

The NVISION relegendable panels feature a root structure that speeds navigation through a specific category. In this example, the button labelled “VTR” is a category button, and this quickly allows an operator to see all the sources that have been placed in the category VTR. This process can then be repeated to quickly ‘drill down’ to any page of sources, destinations or functions in the panel’s configuration.

The NV9642A panel is truly “multimode.” It can be a traditional button per source, or a full XY panel that utilizes source and destination selection via categories. Both approaches can be configured on the panel at the same time.

System Controllers Comparison

The NVISION range offers a choice of system controllers for different appli-cations and levels of control complexity. The all new NV920 controller is a 1 RU purpose-designed controller that can be configured as a single or dual redundant controller. The NV960 system controller is designed for larger, more complex router control applications. Both controllers ship with

all software preloaded, including drivers, to control any NVISION router. Optional software is available to control Philips/BTS, Utah Scientific, Grass Valley (SMS 7000), Horizon, Snell (Pro-Bel), Pesa, Sony, ISIS, Datatek or Encore routers, and third-party interfaces are available for SNMP, Snell (Pro-Bel), Jupiter, and SMS-MCPU Bridge. Other core system options include tie-line management software and remote diagnostics software.

NVISION NV920 ROUTER CONTROLLER

The NV920 is a 1 RU enterprise-class box that can be configured to be either a single or a dual NV9000 controller, all in a single 1 RU package. The NV920’s compact design is a great choice for most router control applica-tions, but is ideal for applications in which space and power efficiency is a major concern, like in mobile broadcast and production environments.

The NV920 hardware is purpose-built for demanding broadcast applica-tions that require redundant power supplies, service from the front capa-bility, and flexible configuration. The NV920 includes 3 TCP/IP Ethernet ports per controller, and can support up to 300 control panels, and up to 150 routers.

NVISION NV960 ROUTER CONTROLLER

The NVISION NV960 router controller is configured to meet the require-ments of the largest and most demanding multirouter, multinetwork grid-ded broadcast facilities, and for applications in which Dynamic Hybrid Pathfinding is used. Featuring 6 TCP/IP Ethernet ports per controller, the NV960 controller can support up to 400 control panels and up to 250 rout-ers, and the system can be expanded by adding additional router control-lers, either as redundant units or router expansion controllers.

The NVISION NV960 is equipped with redundant power supplies, and speed controlled fans. The NVISION NV960 system controller is available as a single 2 RU controller, or as a dual, 4 RU redundant control package (order model NV965). With both controllers running, one acts as a primary, and the second as a backup. Both are kept updated with current router status at all times.
