In order to have good quality light, the lumi-nous intensity in the workplace, hospitals, officesor schools has to fulfill specific minimum guide-lines. This can be measured and documented effi-ciently using the 545.Convenient data analysis

The information in 545 can be downloaded us-ing Comfort software and a location list can besaved. Using Professional Comfort software, sepa-rately saved luminous intensity values can be con-nected to form a curve. This “light profile” pro-vides information on the uniformity of the lightingi.e. in repro tables, for paintings, in halls etc.

The hand held Photo-Meter measures illuminationfor architects, designers, scientists, and industrial engi-neers. For example, they rapidly compare ambient illu-mination to video screen brightness to determine suit-ability of the visual environment. Photo-Meters alsomeasure vehicle headlamps on assembly lines, surveystage lighting, or measure any light source or reflectingsurface.

Photo-Meters "LX" is a precision meter required forscientific and laboratory work. This model utilizes fil-tered sensors with spectral response tightly calibratedto the C.I.E. Photopic response. The illuminance recep-tors closely follow the Cosine Law relative sensitivityversus angle of illuminance.

Photo-Meters are simple to operate. Press theMeasure button to get continuously updated readings.Releasing the Measure button freezes the last readingfor convenient reference. The Range button adjusts themeasurement display for the resolution desired.

The LED display is visible in very dim light, as wellas direct sunlight. LED displays are inherently robustin comparison to LCD (liquid crystal) displays.Commonly available batteries power Photo-Meters fortens of thousands of readings.

Data Capture• Any sensor with a voltage output can be fully supported by the PMA

thanks to a memory chip in the sensor that makes it unnecessary topermanently load any sensor information into the meter

• The sensor output algorithm provides precision readings, choice ofdimensions, and date of calibration

Data Storage• A logging capacity of 1,024 entries, with each entry including time,

date, and how long the sensor will be in its calibration period• Automatic and manual storage of data from 1-minute to 2-hour

intervals• Datalogger downloads through a conventional RS-232 serial output

port into any PC• Non-volatile memoryData Management• Instantaneous values--like power--can be time-integrated to also show

energy• Dimensions can be altered (e.g., foot-candles to lux)• Minimum, maximum, and average values can be shown• A programmable alarm from a time integral or maximum value• Numerical or graphical LCD display• Auto ranging• The sensors remember their last configuration, including dimensions,

alarm thresholds, and data storage settingsThe information specific to a particular sensor is digitally stored in a tiny,

stainless steel encapsulated memory chip inside the detector casewhich contains

• Algorithms determining how the voltage(s) from the sensor are con-verted to the displayed value

• Calibration factors and expiration date• Identification information• Display formatting information• Units and conversion proceduresThe PMA 2100 automatically loads this information when the sensor is

attached and configures itself accordingly. Gain and offset are storeddigitally avoiding potentiometers and permitting accurate calibration.Updated information, such as changes in gain or offset, flow from thePMA to the memory chip

Ultraviolet Intensity MeterUltraviolet Intensity Meter

The BLAK-RAY ultraviolet Intensity Meter is ahand-held photovoltaic device used to measure ul-traviolet intensity, mainly from hot or cold cath-ode mercury discharge lamps. Visible light doesnot register on the meters, only ultraviolet plussome infrared. When infrared is present it can beeliminated from the readings as detailed under“Infrared Sensitivity.” Two models are available;one for measuring long wave and one for measur-ing short wave ultraviolet. Readings are in mi-crowatts per square centimeter (µW/cm2).

The meter consists of a sensor cell attached to acompact metering unit. The sensor cell can behand-held or placed directly on a surface for mea-surements. The sensor cell can be used remotely, while connected to the meter housing by a 4-footextension cord included.

J-221 meter complies with MIL STD 45662-Afound in MIL-6868D (J-221 NSN 6635-488-545).Calibration of meters is traceable to NIST.
