There are 8 computers and several research devices on R/V Muikku. Each research device isconnected to computer. Research data is stored to computers in ASCII format. Controllingcomputer is database computer and from which is an access to each computer via network.

Data management system

Data files are brought to the University. Administrator stores the travel information and observation places to the database using a software made for this purpose. After this data files are downloaded to the database. Every research data is bound to a particular observation through time, place and coordinates.

Besides information of travels and observations places database includes information of persons, lakes and research data (water chemistry, phytoplankton, CTD, weather information, water current, fluorometer).

Software allows researchers to maintain, create reports and take advantage of research data.

Analyses

1. Phytoplankton biomass and species composition

2. Chlorophyll a and fluorometer measurements

3. Water quality: conductivity, pH, temperature, oxygen, light (PAR), Secchi depth, colour, turbidity, total phosphorus, PO4-P, total nitrogen, NO3-N, NH4-N, COD

4. Water currents: Speed and direction throughout the water column

5. Weather: Wind speed and direction, air pressure, temperature, rain detection, solar radiation
