SEER-SEM with Historical Database Page 1 Data Driven Estimates with SEER-SEM Summary SEER for Software offers knowledge-based estimation based on review and analysis of historical data. SEER- SEM also offers the ability for you to incorporate your own proprietary data that can be used to directly and visually to enhance your estimates. Historical data is imported into the SEER formatted historical database (SEER-HD) and can be used for sizing, calibration or simply for crosschecking. 1 SEER-SEM using Historical Data SEER-Historical Database The SEER Historical Database (SEER-HD) provides a single data store which numerous repository-driven features tie into. This means that an addition or change to project records in the Historical Database automatically updates data driven features throughout the SEER toolset. The Historical Database can be accessed and edited using the SEER Historical Database Administrator.

VisualCrosscheckEstimatesAgainsttheHistoricalDataOnceyouhavecreatedanestimate,itcanbecomparedagainstthedataitself.ThiscanbedoneusingSEER-Metrics(ascatterplotanalysistoolthatcomeswithSEER-SEM)orwiththehistoricaldatabasescatterplotchartsbuiltintoSEER-SEM.Toactivatethechart,gototheChartmenuandselectChooseActiveCharts.

CalibratingtoSpecificDataPoints–AnalogyBasedEstimatingTheAnalogyBasedEstimatingfeatureinSEER-SEMallowsyoutodynamicallyselectdatapointstobeusedfordetailedcalibration.AnalogyBasedEstimatingcanbelaunchedfromtheEstimatemenuorbyclickingonthe

buttononthescatterplotchart.Thiswillgiveyoutheoptiontoselectdatapointsdirectlyfromthescatterplotchart(visually)orfromalistofrecords.

5AnalogyBasedEstimatingLetsYouControlDetailedCalibrations

1. Selectwhichrecordsyouwanttouseforcalibrationbycheckingtheboxnexttothename.Ifyouwanttochooseallrecords,simplychecktheboxatthetop.Toaidintheselection,youcanclickonanycolumnheadertosorttherecords.

2. Thecomputedcalibrationadjustmentsbasedontheselectedrecordsaredisplayedhere.Youcanchoosewhethertocalibrateeffort,scheduleorboth.

3. Youcanchoosewhethertousecalibrationadjustmentsthatarethemedianoraverageoftheselectedrecords.Medianishelpfulfordiversedataandcantempertheimpactofoutliers.

4. YoucanchoosetoapplythecalibrationadjustmentstotheselectedWBSelementortheentireproject.5. Ifyouarenothappywiththeselectionsoryouwanttonarrowdownthesetofrecordstobeusedfor

calibration,youcanchooseFilterRecordsAgaintogetarefreshedlistofrecords.6. OnceyouarehappywiththecalibrationadjustmentsyoucanclickApplyforthemtotakeeffect.

Onceyouhaveappliedthecalibration,youcanseehowtheestimatehaschanged.TheProjectCalibrationDatareportwillidentifyexactlywhichrecordswereusedandthehistoricaldatabasescatterplotwillhighlightthepointsusedforcalibration.

SEER-MetricsAnalysisandBenchmarkingFormorescatterplotanalysisofthehistoricaldata,youcanlaunchSEER-Metrics,whichisincludedwithSEER-SEM.SEER-Metricsoffersmanyfeatures,suchasadvancedfiltering,theabilitytocreatecustomcharts,andhistogramcharts.SEER-MetricscanbelaunchedfromtheSEER-SEMtoolbar.
