What are e-Labs?
The e-Labs provide an opportunity for students to:
• Organize and conduct authentic research.
Experience the environment of scientific
collaborations.
• Analyze authentic data from large experiments
E Labs
• Students reach beyond classroom walls to
explore data with other students and
experts.
• They use common analysis tools, store their
work and use metadata to discover,
replicate and confirm the research of
others. This is where real scientific
collaboration begins.

CASE STUDY IN RADIOACTIVITY DATA( MAKING STATISTICS MORE EXCITING FOR
TEACHERS AND STUDENTS)
HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE ON REAL DATA
We will use real data from the video recorded in Jeferson lab, US. But before that we need to
familiarize ourselves with basic data analysis on simple data.
We have already prepared an electronics notebook to make your own data analysis. When
students are exposed with enough theory about radioactivity, they will figure out most of the
calculations for self.
3.2 JUPYTER NOTEBOOK
We will use a jupyter notebook to maka data
analysis on nuclear physics. It is free, and
currently there is a version designed by google
to integrate it into your google drive.
● Open a google account and go to the
website:
https://colab.research.google.com/noteboo
ks/welcome.ipynb#recent=true
● It will open a notebook for you and you
will start right away.
CASE STUDY FROM PARTICLE PHYSICS
● There are a few data analysis projects in particle physics which tries to outreach more
students and teachers who are not expert at this field. As teachers we should try those sites
in your classroom environment to find out its usefulness for students.
○ Particle physics playground: It uses jupyter notebooks to introduce some fundamental formulas
in particle physics and guide you through a few particle physics projects from which students try
to use particle physics data from at cern such as CMS, ATLAS. They also introduce data from
other detectors not located at CERN.

○ CMS-OpenData-Education: This was developed first for Finish students and later adapted to
several languages. It is waiting your contribution!
