Yes. All parents enrolling children for the first time in the single classes and accelerated programs are required to attend themandatory orientation on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Orientation begins promptly at 6:00pm. Orientation is approximately45 minutes long which consist of program expectations, reviewing policies, and answering questions. Failure to attend orienta-tion may result in the student’s registration being cancelled.

If we cancel a class or program due to insufficient enrollment or other reasons, Leisure Services will issue a full refund to allregistered individuals. No refunds will be granted after the start of a class or program or if the student drops out during thesession. Refund requests must include a Refund Request Form and be submitted no later than seven (7) business days priorto the first day of class or program. Requests must be received from and refunds issued to the individual who signed theregistration form. Refunds are subject to an administration processing fee of 25% of the amount paid. Behavior relateddismissals may not be eligible for a refund. All requests for refunds are forwarded to the Leisure Services DepartmentDirector for final approval.

We have a small dancewear store with a limited supply of dancewear in stock at very affordable prices. Our supply consistsof pink ballet slippers, black tap oxfords, black patent-leather tap shoes, black leotards, and pink, white, brown, and suntantights from child to adult sizes. We sell only to students enrolled at the Center. When purchasing dancewear for a child, westrongly recommend that the child be present for fitting. We have a “no return policy” once the dancewear is purchased andtaken home.

Yes. In-county residents only. Children age 18 and under may be eligible for a scholarship that will reduce the class/program feeup to 100%. Apply at our location or any ACC Leisure Services location.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION FORALL CLASSES AND PROGRAMS

Registration is held at the East Athens Educational Dance Center, 390 McKinley Drive, Athens, GA, 30601. For directions,call (706) 613-3624.

Fees vary and are listed with each class/program description. Drop-in rate for unregisterd children and adults pay $5.00 perclass (in-county residents) and $8.00 per class (out-of-county residents). No drop-ins are accepted in the children’s acceler-ated programs or G.I.F.T.E.D. Performing Ensemble. No drop-ins are accepted in single classes that are filled to capacity onthe day of drop-in. All program fees must be paid in full at the time of registration (or drop-in) by cash or check. Checks aremade payable to Athens-Clarke County. When paying cash, please have the exact amount. Sorry, we do not accept debit orcredit cards.

SPECIAL NOTE: No classes during the week of the annual dance production,February 21-25, 2011 and Spring Break period, March 14-18, 2011

In-county residents can register on the kick-off day, Saturday,November 20, 2010 from 9:00am-12:00pm. Out-of-Countyresidents can register beginning Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Open Registration will continue Monday through Thursdayonly, between 1:00pm-4:30pm. Final day of registration is Thursday, January 20, 2011. NO FRIDAY OR SATURDAYREGISTRATIONS. No registration on November 25 & 26, December 24, 2010 and January 17, 2011. If single classes arenot filled by the registration deadline date, registration will continue until the first day of class under a different time schedulewhich will be posted on the front doors. All children under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. Abirth cerficate is required to register children age 6 and under.

Open level class for the beginning to moderately trained student. Students will learn various modern dance techniques ranging in improvisation to Horton. The use props such as streamers, fabric, and other objects will be incorporated toexplore movement. Class meets one day a week for 12 weeks.

Music selections are cleanand age appropriate. Students are accepted into the accelerated programs by audition and recommendation of the East Athens Educational DanceCenter teaching staff. These programs offer intensive technical training to develop and strengthen posture, placement, fexibility,balance, coordination, and rhythm. The student is expected to improve movement quality, and gain a greateer understanding ofdance theory and composition. The criteria for acceptance and retaining a position in an accelerated program is as follows: 1)the student’s overall approach to dance needs to be one that exceeds expectations; 2) the student should be highly focused,dedicated, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and possess excellent leadership skills; 3) the student is expected to work to his/herfullest potential at all times; 4) the student should also be a quick learner, be very alert and confident, and enjoy being chal-lenged. Students will have an opportunity to perform in the annual dance production and annual recital providing theymeet all eligibility and program requirements. Classes run for eight weeks.

Giving Inspirational Feelings Through Expressive Dance describes this unique children’s performing ensemble that is dedicated toreaching new audiences through outreach performances and programs. The objective is to educate, entertain, and inspire people toappreciate dance as a performing art. The G.I.F.T.E.D. Performing Ensemble aims to give its young members a rewarding experiencein a variety of dance styles and techniques that will prepare them for a college that offers a BA or BFA in dance. The members arealso given the opportunity to assist with teaching younger children at the East Athens Educational Dance Center to gain valuablework experience and work ethics for future endeavors.

Company Membership♦ Company members must be at least 9 years of age and enrolled in the East Athens Educational Dance Center’s Accelerated Programs 2 thru 4.♦ An audition is required. Open auditions are held annually in April.♦ Current members are required to re-audition every year during open audition.♦ Up to 20 members can be selected based on the judges scores and teachers’ recommendations.♦ Members are required to pay an annual fee along with additional fees for uniforms, required dancewear, field trips, special events, etc.♦ Year-long membership includes workshops, classes, rehearsals, visiting artists, costume use, community outreach performances, annual concert, special events, Xmas party, photo sessions, volunteer assignments, assistant teaching assignments, fundraisers, choreography in the Annual Dance Production and Annual Dance Recital, and special recognition.

G.I.F.T.E.D. PERFORMING ENSEMBLE

The G.I.F.T.E.D. Performing Ensemble is available for guest appearances for community functions, arts programs, youth programs, school functions (PTA, evening programs), etc., providing the event meets our criteria for a performance. CHECKLIST FOR REGISTRATIONBefore you register your child, be prepared to know or have the following information.

The Parent or legal guardian can only register the child. No other family member.

Bring the birth certificate of your child 6 years old and under.

Bring your family physician information (i.e. name, address, phone number)

Bring your medical insurance policy number and hospital preference.

In-county residents applying for a scholarship will need to bring acceptable credentials fordependency verification, income verification, and residency verification.

If you are purchasing dancewear for your child, your child must be present for the fitting.

You can pay by check or cash for registration fees and dancewear. When paying cash, pleasehave the exact amount. Sorry, we do not take debit or credit cards.
