WelcomeSpring is the time to refresh, and there’s plenty new at Dance Base this term. We've got a new programming team and a new look to our brochure, so wherebetter to discover your ‘New Year new you’ than with us!

There’s so much on offer for everyone new to dancing – including free dancingfor anyone over 60 who hasn’t danced with us before at the new-style Goldenclass (p25). If you've danced with us for a while, we’ve simplified some ofthe programme as we want to give you easy routes to develop your dancing(see Ballet p14). Due to popular demand we've got more high-flying aerialsessions and more classes to give you a good (dance) workout.

Dance is for everyone and everyone can dance so we’ve got new classesspecially designed for both our babies and our baby boomers. We’ve brokenour young people’s activity into clear chunks so there’s more to choose fromat each stage – including new creative dance for children.

We’ve got some great workshops on offer, from ballet to Bollywood (p12) andour ever popular ballroom socials, to new breakdance open weekend sessions.

Although we have no Christmas Show this term there are other opportunitiesfor our classes to show off their moves throughout 2014 as part of the excitingGet Scotland Dancing programme (p5). To give you a flavour of all the otheractivities, we’ve got information about our important community projects (p4)and our extensive professional programme (p7).

Weare excited to have been passed the baton of community dance atDanceBase and look forward to the newspring term!

Current Community ProjectsSeated SwingDance keeps older people activeand alert, both physically andmentally, and enhances theiremotional and social wellbeing. For those older adults who can’tmake it to us, we can take danceto them. Dance Base DevelopmentStudio1Dance Base is working to realise its ambition to create a much-needed,fully-equipped technical studio space for professional dancers andcompanies to innovate, create and develop new work. The spacewill develop the existing, well-established professional residencyprogramme to the logical next stage. It will also provide opportunitiesfor community dancers to show their work in a blacked-out, fully-litspace with accessible, raked seating.

Creative Scotland is supporting this important development and wenow need to raise the last portion of funding to complete the project. This new resource will greatly enhance the opportunities availableto all professional and community dancers and open up possibilitiesfor exciting special projects.
