Transcript of Daily Flyer 5-3
To the PLU community,
In debriefing the event “Building Relationships in A Sexual Culture” all those who had a hand in putting this event together would like to apologize.
We take responsibility for giving Mr. Henning access to the PLU community, and therefore have to take responsibility for the hurt that was caused by the generalizations and stereotypes that he made. In no way was it our intent to make students feel shamed for not pursuing an abstinent approach to relationships. Nor do we want those students who are pursuing abstinence to think they are any better than other students who are not.
In our past experiences with Mr. Henning none of us remember his presentations being as offensive as Wednesday night’s. Many of his comments were insensitive and ignorant of the realities of many PLU students’ lives. It pained us to watch students feel blamed and demeaned because of the different lifestyles they choose to pursue.
We still hold to promoting sex inside of marriage, and that there are healthy differences between men and women that should be properly understood and embraced. But we are deeply disappointed with the way that message was shared with the PLU community that we love and care about.
This apology can’t take back the things that were said, nor in one letter repair any damage that was done this past week. It is our hope, however, that it is the first step in that healing process. We hope for there to be space for appropriate dialogue and conversations about the differences we do have, as was our original intent for the event. And we are committed to move forward learning from one another and working toward healthy dialogue. Sincerely, Jeff Cherry Director of For the King Chelsea Paulsen Student President of For the King

THE DAILY FLYER NEEDS YOUR HELPYou’ve given us some awesome captions. But now we need some awesome animals because you’re probably starting to think the Daily Flyer is run by a crazy cat lady. It doesn’t matter that this is probably true.
Submit a photo of your pet doing something goofy to [email protected] for a chance to be featured in the Daily Flyer.
