Health Counseling Centers

We want to serve you better, but we need your help. During the 2012-13 academic year, the rate of no-show visits has risen dramatically. In February of 2013, we experienced a 210 percent increase in no-shows. No-shows affect everyone. The Health and Counseling Centers operate using scheduled appointments, and we work hard to accommodate everyone who requests an appointment. If an appointment “slot” is filled and then the student-no-shows, that appointment time cannot be rescheduled. It is a lost opportunity for another waiting to get an appointment for the care that he or she needs. A no-show goes against PLU’s community standards, it shows disrespect for other students, as well as the Health and Counseling Center staff.

We care about you. If your healthcare provider asks that you schedule a follow-up visit, this means that he or she is concerned enough about your physical and/or mental health that an in-person visit is warranted. Even if you are feeling better, we still want to see you to ensure that your condition has improved. In some cases, we may ask you to schedule a follow-up visit but tell you that it is okay to cancel if your symptoms have improved; if so, just make sure that you let us know that you’re feeling better 24 hours before your appointment. Rescheduling your visit may also be difficult. If we have made time for you, and you do not come in, it may be more difficult to find a timely appointment that fits your schedule.

How you can help… 1. Plan your appointments carefully. Make certain that you make your own reminders on a written a

written or electronic calendar, or set a reminder on your smart phone.

2. Let us know right away if you cannot attend a scheduled appointment. Just send an email to [email protected] or [email protected] or call us at 253-535-7337 (Health Center) or 253-535-7206 (Counseling Center).

3. Be on time. Since your appointment time may be scheduled for just 15 minutes, you need to arrive at the Health or Counseling Center right on time. If you’re 15 minutes late, you are considered to be a “no show.”

All of us at the PLU Health and Counseling Centers thank you for helping us to keep our students as healthy as possible.

YOU OKAY, JACK?
