THE Tok Tok trade event wraps up this afternoon in Port Vila, following two days of wheeling and dealing between the Vanuatu-based suppliers and overseas buyers. Tonight delegates will wind down with a ‘Lost in the Jungle’ theme party - see next Monday’s TD for full coverage, while today’s issue has details of other new products. Next year’s Tok Tok THE 2010 Tok Tok tourism expo is understood by Travel Daily to be planned for the island of Espiritu Santo. Although still under wraps, some industry pundits told TD Santo will be an ideal location to showcase the increased tourism infrastructure opening up there. Tok Tok has been hosted in Port Vila at The Sebel for the past two years and before that at Le Lagon and Iririki Island Resort. QANTAS today confirmed that it had been advised by Boeing of a further delay in the delivery of its 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Boeing issued an updated schedule for the development of the long-awaited aircraft, saying the plane’s first flight is still expected by the end of 2009. The delivery of the first production 787 to launch customer ANA, is now “expected to occur by the fourth quarter of 2010,” the manufacturer said. Boeing said the revised Another Dreamliner delay schedule was due to the need to reinforce an area on the side of the aircraft, “along with the addition of several weeks of schedule margin to reduce flight test and certification risk.” CEO Jim McNerney also revealed a US$2.5b accounting charge, with the initial flight test 787s to be written off as R&D expenses due to the “inordinate amount of rework and unique and extensive modifications” made. QF ceo Alan Joyce said: “We now need to assess exactly what this means for our initial B787-9 deliveries and will know more in the next few months. “We still believe the aircraft is right for us in terms of supporting Jetstar’s international growth and for the replacement of the Qantas B767 fleet,” he added. Joyce said that in anticipation of this latest delay QF had last week announced the lease of 4-5 A330-200s for Jetstar (TD 19 Aug).
