1 About these instructionsThese instructions for the DAC basic/classic control have been prepared with utmost care. They contain information and notes intended to ensure long-term and reliable operation.

Should you notice any discrepancies or if you have improvement requests, then we would be glad to receive your feedback through Customer Service ( p. 55).

Consider the instructions part of the product and store them in a place where they are readily available.

1.1 For whom are these instructions intended?These instructions are intended for:

• Operators: This group is familiar with the machine and has access to the instructions. Specifically, chapter Operation ( p. 25) is important for this group of employees.

• Specialists: This group of employees has the appropriate technical training allowing them to perform maintenance on the machine or to repair faults.

Service Instructions are supplied separately.

With regard to minimum qualification and other requirements to be met by personnel, please also follow the chapter Safety ( p. 9).

Each manufacturer has performed a hazard assessment for these purchased parts and confirmed their design compliance with ap-plicable European and national regulations. Transport

Dürkopp Adler cannot be held liable for breakage and transport damages. Inspect the delivery immediately upon receiving it. Report any damage to the last transport manager. This also ap-plies if the packaging is not damaged.

Leave control, equipment and packaging material in the condition in which they were found when the damage was discovered. This secures any claims against the transport company.

Report all other complaints to Dürkopp Adler immediately after receiving the product.

2 Technical specificationsThe DAC basic/classic is a control for industrial sewing machines assigned according to the functional scope of a class.

Precisely harmonized parameters ensure optimum functionality and the greatest ease of use for every class.

Safety

3 SafetyThis chapter contains basic information for your safety. Read the instructions carefully before setting up or operating the control. Make sure to follow the information included in the safety instruc-tions. Failure to do so can result in serious injury and property damage.

3.1 Basic safety instructionsThe DAC basic/classic control may only be used as described in these instructions.

The instructions should be available at the control's location at all times.

Work on live components is prohibited.

The control was built and tested in compliance with all valid ordinance and safety regulations, and left the factory in proper working order.

The control will only work safely and reliably when the control is used as intended ( 4.4 Proper use, p. 22).

Before leaving the workplace:

• Switch off the control

• Wait until the machine stops

• Wait until the LEDs go out

Obligations of the operator

Follow the country-specific safety and accident prevention regu-lations and the legal regulations concerning industrial safety and the protection of the environment.

All warnings and safety signs on the control must always be in legible condition and may not be removed. Missing or damaged labels must be replaced immediately.


Safety

Requirements to be met by the

personnel

The control may only be set up by specialists. Specialists are persons with electronics and mechanical training.

The following work may only be performed by specialists.

• Maintenance work

• Repairs

• Work on electrical equipment

Only authorized persons may work on the machine. Anyone work-ing on the machine belongs to the operators. Operators must have read and understand the manual before working on the system.

Setup Control setup and start-up must be performed carefully by qualified technicians to ensure no health risks for operating personnel.

The connecting cable must have a power plug approved in the relevant country. The power plug may only be connected to the power cable by qualified specialists.

Operation Check the control while in operation for any externally visible damage.

Stop working if you notice any changes. Report any changes to your supervisor.

A damaged control should no longer be used.

Conversions or changes to the control are prohibited.

3.2 Signal words and symbols used in warnings

Warnings in the text are distinguished by color bars. The color scheme based on the severity of the danger. Signal words indicate the severity of the danger:

4 Components and functionsWhen delivered the DAC basic/classic consists of:

4.1 ControlThe control is available in two different versions:

• DAC basic

• DAC classic

The DAC classic has more inputs and outputs in the back than does the DAC basic.

4.3 Setpoint deviceThe setpoint device converts the values from the pedal into voltage values. The setpoint device specifies the speed and starts the thread cutter or the sewing foot lift.

The setpoint device is attached under the stand with a mounting bracket.

The setpoint device includes:

• a push/pull rod (1) that is connected to the machine pedal through the set of rods

• a spring pre-load (2), enabling 3 settings for the push/pull rod (none, 1/8, or 1/4 rotation)

4.4 Proper useThe DAC basic/classic control is not a standalone unit; instead, it is intended for installation in a sewing machine (hereafter referred to as machine). For additional information refer to 2.2 Declaration of Conformity, p. 7.

The control is intended for industrial use.

The control may only operate in rooms that are clean and dry.

Do not operate the control when aerosols (sprays) or oxygen are in use.

Proper use includes compliance with the operating, maintenance, and repair conditions as specified by the manufacturer.

Only authorized persons may work on the control (chapter 3 Safety, p. 9).

5 OperationThe DAC basic/classic control is operated exclusively using the OP1000 control panel.

You set the foundation for the sewing process with the settings on the control.

5.1 Basic operationIn this chapter you will learn the basics for working with the control. These basics are:

• Switching on and off the control

• Using button groups

5.1.1 Switching on and off the control

Important

Before operating the control, make sure to follow all information in chapter Safety ( p. 9).

The control is located below the tabletop of the frame.

Risk of injury from sharp parts!

Risk of minor injuries from puncture when switching on the machine unintentionally.

When there are longer standstill periods, disconnect the power cable before leaving the workplace.

Switching on the control

1. Press the main switch (1) down to position I.

The POWER LED (2) and the POWER LED on the control panel illuminate green.

As soon as Ready appears on the display you can begin sewing; press the foot pedal forward to pedal position +1.

Switching off the control

When you are finished your work switch off the control:

1. Press the main switch (1) up to position 0.

PowerOff appears on the display. The POWER LED on the control panel illuminates red.

5.1.2 Using button groups

Use the button groups to select machine functions, such as start bartack. The following options are available:

Button groups and use

To select a machine function:

1. press the corresponding button on the control panel.

You will recognize which machine function has been acti-vated by the LED in the respective button.

When the LED illuminates you can sew. Changes are only possible outside of a seam.

5.2 Thread button group functionsUsing the Thread button group you can set or activate:

• Start bartack

• Multiple start bartack

• End bartack

• Multiple end bartack

• Thread cutter

• Thread clamp

• Needle position after sewing stop

5.2.1 Setting the start bartack

The start bartack secures the seam at the seam beginning. If a seam consists of backward stitches only, one speaks of single bartacks. A seam of forward and backward stitches is called a double bartack.

Single bartack

To set the single bartack:

1. Press .

The LED at the lower right illuminates.

2. Press the B+ button from the Programming button group repeatedly until the required number of backward stitches is reached.

You can begin sewing; press the pedal forward to pedal position +1.

Double bartack

To set the double bartack:

1. Press twice .

Both LEDs illuminate.

2. Press the A+ button from the Programming button group repeatedly until the required number of forward stitches is reached.

3. Press the B+ button repeatedly until the required number of backward stitches is reached.

You can begin sewing; press the pedal forward to pedal position +1.

To deactivate the start bartack press .

5.2.2 Setting the multiple start bartack

Use the multiple start bartack to set the number of stitches as well as the number of repetitions (sections with forward and backward stitches).

To set the multiple start bartack:

1. Press .

The LED flashes. If it illuminates, the multiple start bartack has been activated as the darning program and has to be deactivated ( 5.2.3 Using the multiple start bartack as the darning program, p. 29).



4. Press the D+ button repeatedly until the required number of repetitions is reached.

5. Confirm your selection with .

5.2.3 Using the multiple start bartack as the darning program

InformationThe darning program is only supported by certain classes.

Order

If you want to use the multiple start bartack as the darning program, it has to be released in advance by qualified specialists ( Service Instructions).

The darning program offers the following functions:

• The thread is cut at the end of the program.


Operation

To set the darning program:

1. Check whether the thread cutter has been activated ( p. 32).

2. Press .

The LED illuminates.



5. Press the C+ button to set the start of path 1.

6. Press the D+ button repeatedly until the required number of repetitions is reached.

Important

If the number of repetitions = 0, the program will continue working until stopped by the pedal.


5.2.4 Setting the end bartack

The end bartack secures the seam at the seam end. If a seam consists of backward stitches only, one speaks of single bartacks. A seam of forward and backward stitches is called a double bartack.


Operation

Single bartack

To set the single bartack:

1. Press .

The upper left LED illuminates.

2. Press the C+ button from the Programming button group repeatedly until the required number of forward stitches is reached.

You can begin sewing; press the pedal forward to pedal position +1. At the end of the seam, press the pedal back to pedal position -2.

Double bartack

To set the double bartack:

1. Press twice .

Both LEDs illuminate.


3. Press the D+ button repeatedly until the required number of backward stitches is reached.


To deactivate the end bartack press .

5.2.5 Setting the multiple end bartack

Use the multiple end bartack to set the number of stitches as well as the number of repetitions.

To set the multiple end bartack:

1. Press .

The LED flashes.

3. Press the D+ button repeatedly until the required number of backward stitches is reached.

4. Press the A+ button repeatedly until the required number of repetitions is reached.



5.2.6 Activating the thread cutter

The thread cutter automatically cuts the thread at the seam end.

To activate the thread cutter:

1. Press .


5.2.7 Activating the thread clamp

The thread clamp holds the thread firmly to pull it down and loop it while sewing on.

To activate the thread clamp:

1. Press .


5.2.8 Setting the needle position after sewing stop

You can determine where the needle is positioned after a sewing stop. There are two options:

• Top dead centre (needle position 2)

• Bottom dead centre (needle position 1)


Operation

To activate the top dead centre after a sewing stop:

1. Press .

The LED illuminates; i.e., the needle is raised after a sewing stop.

If the needle is to be in the bottom dead centre after a sewing stop,

press again.

5.2.9 Activating sewing foot lift after thread cutter

The sewing foot lift after thread cutter lifts the sewing foot after the thread is cut.

To activate the sewing foot lift after thread cutter:

1. Press .


5.2.10 Activating sewing foot lift after sewing stop

The sewing foot lift after sewing stop lifts the sewing foot after a sewing stop.

To activate the sewing foot lift:

1. Press .



Operation

5.2.11 Activating soft start

Soft start refers top starting the machine at a slower speed. The function prevents the motor from overheating during long work processes. After a certain stitch count, the machine runs at the set speed.

To activate the soft start:

1. Press .


5.2.12 Reducing speed

The reduced speed protects the motor with an ongoing lower speed. Reduced speed is set at the factory as the default.

To activate the reduced speed:

1. Press .


To adjust the speed:

1. Press .

2. Press the C+ button from the Programming button group.

The reduced speed increased by one-one-hundredth.

3. Press the D+ button.

The reduced speed increased by one-tenth.

You can also reduce the speed:

1. Press the C- button for one-on-hundredth and D- for one-tenth.

5.3 Programming button group functionsUsing the Programming button group you can set:

• Bobbin stitch counter

• Remaining thread monitor (if present)

• Piece counter

• Needle cooling (if present)

• Light barrier (if present)

Buttons and use

Important

If you press you can no longer sew.

5.3.1 Setting the bobbin piece counter

The bobbin piece counter outputs a message when the entered number of stitches is reached. The number of stitches should approximately determine when the hook thread is depleted. Thus you avoid having to repeat work processes.

The bobbin stitch counter must be set for every thread type. The value to be set (i.e. 8000) is the product of the default value (reset value) and the number of stitches (factor):

Example for setting the bobbin stitch counter

1. Press .

Parameter mode is started. The following appears on the display:

2. Press the D+ button from the Programming button group.

The following appears on the display:

Use parameter 01 to set the reset value for bobbin stitch counter A.

3. Press .

The LED of the button flashes.

4. Use the D- or D+ button to set the reset value to 400.


6. Press the D+ button repeatedly until 04 appears on the display:

Use parameter 04 to set the factor.

7. Press .

The LED of the button flashes.

8. Use the D- or D+ button to set the factor to 20.


10. Exit parameter mode with .

The bobbin stitch counter is at 8000.

In addition to A, there are 2 other bobbin stitch counters. Use parameter 02 or 03 respectively to set the reset value for bobbin stitch counter B or C respectively.

Reset the bobbin stitch counter with the button.

5.3.2 Activating the bobbin stitch counter

To activate the bobbin stitch counter:

1. Press .

Parameter mode is started.

2. Press the B+ button of the Programming button group repeatedly until 06 appears on the display:

If parameter 00 does not appear: Press the D+ button repeatedly until the parameter appears on the display.

The LED of the button flashes. 0 appears on the dis-play.

The bobbin stitch counter is activated.


To deactivate the bobbin stitch counter again, in category 06 change parameter 00 to 0.

5.3.3 Setting the remaining thread monitor

The remaining thread monitor reports that the hook thread bobbin is empty. Use parameter 05 to set the number of equalizing stitches for the remaining thread monitor.

To set the remaining thread monitor:

1. Press .


If category 06 or parameter 00 does not appear: 5.3.2 Activating the bobbin stitch counter, p. 37


Operation

2. Press the D+ button of the Programming button group repeatedly until 05 appears on the display:


4. Set the number of stitches with the plus and/or minus buttons.

5. Confirm with .


5.3.4 Activating the remaining thread monitor

To activate the remaining thread monitor:

1. Press .


If category 06 or parameter 00 does not appear: 5.3.2 Activating the bobbin stitch counter, p. 37


The LED of the button flashes. 0 appears on the display.


Operation



The remaining thread monitor is activated.


To deactivate the remaining thread monitor again, change the parameter to 0.

5.3.5 Activating the piece counter

The piece counter counts the number of sewing cycles run (quan-tity) after the respective thread is cut.

To activate the piece counter:

1. Press .

Parameter mode is started. If category 06 or parameter 00 does not appear on the display: 5.3.2 Activating the bobbin stitch counter, p. 37

The piece counter is activated.


The current quantity appears on the display.

Reset the value of the piece counter to 0 with the button.

If the value of the piece counter is not displayed:

5.3.6 Activating needle cooling

Needle cooling helps to reduce disturbances in the sewing pro-cess. Disturbances can occur because needles heat up at high sewing speeds and can damage the sewing material.

To activate needle cooling:

5.3.7 Setting the light barrier

The light barrier helps with detecting the sewing material.

InformationThe light barrier is available for selected classes only.

For the light barrier, you can define the number of equalizing stitches performed upon reaching the seam end. There are 3 options:

• Normal stitch length

• Long stitch length

• Knitted garment filter

You can also define the number of light barrier seams. The seam beginning is recognized without equalizing stitches.

5.4 Seam program button group functionsThe control saves 3 seam programs that you can access using the control panel. There are both default and adjustable functions.

Default functions refer to the seam program and cannot be changed for individual seams.

Adjustable functions refer to the respective seam and can be changed.

You may only set the parameters outside a seam program. Modified parameters or functions are then applied immediately.

5.4.1 Activating seam program I

With seam program I you can sew 4 seams, e.g., for a label.

The default functions are:

• Thread cutter

• Thread clamp

• Sewing foot lift after thread cutter

• Soft start

• Locking

The adjustable functions are:

• Needle position after sewing stop

• Sewing foot lift after sewing stop

• Reduced speed

To activate seam program I:

1. Press .


5.4.2 Activating seam program II

With seam program II you can sew 6 seams, e.g., for a breast pocket.

The default and adjustable functions are identical to those for seam program I.

To activate seam program II:

5.4.3 Setting seam program III

Using seam program III you can sew up to 25 seams of 255 stitches each in 15 subprograms.

The default functions are:

• Soft start

• Thread clamp

In addition to the adjustable functions specified, you can activate:

• Sewing backwards (BT)

• Sewing without sewing stop (CS)

• Seam without number of stitches (NC)

Scroll through the seam program menu with or .

The following example will show you how comprehensive seam program III is. Proceed in the following order:

1. Select the subprogram

2. Set the seams

To set the seams:

1. Press the D+ button of the Programming button group repeatedly until the required number of stitches appears on the display. Use the D- button to reduce the number of stitches. Press the C+ or C- button for increments of one-hundredth.

Important

Seams programed with number of stitches = 0 are not taken into account when processing a seam program.

If you want a seam without stitch counting, press the D- button when the stitch count = 0.

You can save your favorites on the function button . What you can activate with the function button is set at the factory depending on the class. You can store the following functions:

• Threading help

• Thread tension

• Thread wiper

• Stroke quick adjustment

• Operation lock

• Light barrier

• Point position

You can select additional machine functions through the function modules, such as:

• Seam middle guide

• Carrier roller

• Edge cutter
