Bloomfield Baptist Family:“My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.” (Proverbs 7:1-3)

Twenty years ago, I was self-centered, self-consumed high school graduate with his eyes set on a future of self-indulgence. Fortunately for me, God had another plan for my life. Soon after entering my freshman year of college, someone shared the Gos-pel with me and I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ.

If there is one lesson I have learned over the last twenty years, it is this: There is no substitute in the Christian life for consistent Bible reading, study and meditation.

I have had seasons in my life where I spent very little time read-ing God’s word and the result has always been the same…..I end up relying on my own strength, my own wisdom and my own dis-cernment.

God calls us to something more than a life of self-reliance. He calls us to a life of total surrender. One of the ways we surrender our life to Him is by submitting to the counsel of His Word.

What season are you in right now? Perhaps you have had years of consistent Bible reading, but you have fallen into the habit of not opening His Word each day. Maybe you have never had that consistency and you are a bit overwhelmed at the idea of reading the Bible every day.

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing….take a moment right now to open your Bible and read it…..and watch as God transforms your life.
