Hydraulic hybrid vehicles like the Czero truck shown can dramatically reduce fuel con-sumption, and therefore engine emissions as well. Czero is working with the Colorado State Uni-versity Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory on their second generation design hybrid which will be operational this summer.

Algae has the potential to be a low cost feedstock for biodiesel from the sun that could replace the need for petroleum based fuels. Because algae grows by photosynthesis it is not only renewable but consumes CO2 as it grows. Solix Biofuels is an industry leader in the commer-cialization of algae based Biofuels. Czero engi-neers have been working with Solix Biofuels for over two years providing critical engineering ser-vices on the design of the patented photobioreac-tor.

The VanDyne SuperTurbo combines the best of turbochargers and superturbochargers to reduce fuel consumption while increasing en-gine performance. This can have huge impli-cations for oil consumption in the US and worldwide. Czero engineers are developing the elec-tronic controls for the superturbo and the dy-namometer test facility used to test them that will put power back on the grid as part of Fort ZED.

Outboard engines are very popular and are used throughout the world. Any reductions in fuel con-sumption or emission here translates into huge amounts when totaled up across the globe. Czero is providing engineering services to Bom-bardier Recreactional Products that will help make their Johnson and Evinrude outboard en-gines more efficient and reduce emissions.
