Cygnet Sentinel April 2018 Volume XLVI No.7 COMMODORE’S COMMENTS for April JIYC AUXILIARY Okay, NOW it’s officially Spring. Hang in there; it will eventually warm up! After all, my roses are budding, my amaryllis is reaching for the sun, and my tomatoes are the size of ping pong balls (thanks to Costco)! Soon we’ll be complaining about the heat and loving it all at the same time. Kudos to the JIYC House and Entertainment Committee for a great St. Patrick’s Day party! Thanks, too, to Debbie Hertel who captained our Sale Boat of great bargains and our Ways and Means table. What a super crew we have at the Club! Hard to believe three months have already scooted by. We’ve done so much at the Club, and we have a lot more coming up! Don’t miss out on the Kid’s Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31 at 10:30 with coloring, hot dogs and candy filled Easter eggs. Doesn’t get better than that – but wait, maybe it does! The Adults Only Easter Egg Hunt is on Wednesday, April 4 at 7:00. Pawing through the bushes, gathering all those eggs, and going home with a basket full of mini liquor bottles sure sounds like fun to me! The camaraderie continues with the BBQ Cook Off Competition on April 28. The ladies are invited to join in by creating a favorite macaroni and cheese dish to share with everyone. The winner will be crowned the Macaroni Queen. Ask Jenn Phelps for helpful hints. She won last year! Save the dates – The annual Fisher House fundraiser is the weekend of May 19 -20. Details will follow about the Dinner Dance on Saturday and the Golf Cart Poker Run Festivities on Sunday. Hard to believe we are gearing up for Regatta! Tia Stanley is the Chair for the Auxiliary. This year the fun starts with Margarita Night on Wednesday, June 13 and ends with the raffle drawing on Sunday, June 17. We’ll be looking for a lot of volunteers so stay tuned for details. Sounds like a busy time. Make sure to take a break, breathe in that fresh Spring air, and wander down to the Club to enjoy all we have to offer – a great view, libations, companionship, food, and merriment. We’re fortunate to be able to enjoy all this with friends and family. Our next meeting is April 9 at 8:00 in the lounge. Our meetings are informative, short and fun. Hope to see you there! Jeanne Snell - Auxiliary President MEETING DATES SAILING COMMITTEE APRIL 7th - 7pm GENERAL MEETING APRIL 9th Monday Dinner at 7pm / Meeting at 8pm BOARD MEETING APRIL 23rd - 7:00 pm Ready, set, go! Spring has sprung, the Leprechauns have gone back into hiding, and we are kicking off what promises to be a fun-filled and jam-packed summer at JIYC! We kick things off with the annual fish fry and the Easter egg hunts, and then roll right into Charleston Race Week, the Fort to Battery Race, and to round out April the BBQ cook off. Registration for the youth summer sailing camp is now open, and before you know it we’ll again be hosting the Special Olympics and our Regatta. None of this is possible without volunteers and your participation, so come on out, enjoy the great weather and support the club. Speaking of volunteers, we recognized the entire Dock Committee at this month’s General Meeting for their tireless efforts in making the dock repair contract a reality. Led by David Warren, he and his team of dedicated experts worked through all of the member/engineer/government input and reached the milestone of having the project awarded. New steel piles have been ordered by Salmons to secure the best market price, and a deposit has been placed on our SF Marina floating docks to get us in line for manufacturing. Great job guys! Thanks also go out to the House and Entertainment Committees for the fantastic St Patty’s Day festival. It was a great family turnout where we all enjoyed great music, food, drinks and fun. Speaking of great drinks, come take advantage of the new happy hour pricing for selected draft beer and wine on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7 PM. See you at the Club!
