Selection Point System

Nordonia only has three seats available for most of the 21 programs at CVCC.

To determine which students get these limited seats, a selection process is in place for all sophomores.

Students receive points for each activity.

The student with the most points gets his/her first choice of program.

Once programs are full, students may be placed in their second choice and/or on the waiting list for their first choice program.

Two Teacher Recommendations

You may give the recommendations to two teachers of your choice.

You may ask any teacher in the building and are not limited to teachers you have just this year.

You should give them to teachers that know you well and know your potential both inside and outside the classroom.

Give teachers plenty of time to complete and submit the forms. There will be many students asking teachers to complete the same form.

That means don’t wait until January 16th, and especially not January 22nd!

All students that have submitted their papers by January 22nd, will attend a field trip to CVCC on January 30th or 31st. This will give students the opportunity to spend some time in one program of their choice.

Students may also attend make-up field trips, in subsequent months, to visit another program of their choice .

Students submitting their application after the deadline may still attend one of the make-up field dates.

Graduation Requirements

-In order to receive a diploma from Nordonia High School a student needs to satisfy all of these requirements.

-These graduation requirements need to be looked at carefully when considering CVCC so you can ensure a timely graduation.

-If anything is missing or lacking as of right now a plan should be put in place to make up those credits.

Planning Out a Schedule

-Every student is different but this is a typical schedule that is set up for students who go to CVCC.

-If anything is lacking or missing, classes can be taken over the summer or in some cases can be offered through CVCC. Once a student has applied to CVCC, their schedule will be looked at to ensure a timely graduation.

Important Things to Remember

It is very important that you pass all of your classes this year. If you attend a 2-year program at CVCC during your junior and senior years, you will only have time to take 6 classes at Nordonia.

If you have more than 6 classes (English, math, science, social studies, etc.) that you need to fulfill towards graduation requirements, you may not be able to attend CVCC and graduate on time.

CVCC programs earn 3.5 credits each year. These credits usually count only towards elective credit with some exceptions during the first year of the program.

Understand that you may be limited if there are certain selective courses that you wish to take (i.e. AP courses or higher level foreign language). These classes are offered in limited quantities and may conflict with the time you attend CVCC.

If you are even just considering CVCC, be sure to pick up the application packet on Friday, December 7th so that you receive the points for this activity. If you change your mind later on, it may hurt your chances of getting in if you didn’t receive those points. You can always let Miss Tytko know if you decide later on not to attend CVCC.
