The online shop at Decathlon Schwetzingen started

in 2013 with 200-400 boxes per day. Nowadays in

peak periods more than 9.000 boxes are shipped

daily within Germany, the Netherlands and Austria.

Susan Zimmermann: “To keep up with this fast growth

we needed a flexible system, that guarantees a high

protection level during the transport of the products.

The previously used air bags didn’t fulfill these

demands. “

Next to this, the packers also struggled with the

non-flexible shape of the airbags, as fitting the right

amount of air bags in the boxes was often a problem.

Another important goal for our distribution center is to

reduce the cost of operation.

Ranpak offered FillPak solutions for void filling at the package stations. Susan: “With the FillPak TT/

TTC we were able to reduce the cost price with more than 20% compared to the previous air bag

solution”.

Also, PadPak solutions are used for bigger boxes in which vulnerable, expensive products are

protected. With the support of clear instructions and training of the packers, damage rates were

reduced to an absolute minimum.

Additionally, the packers preferred to work with paper as it is easy to handle and flexible. It perfectly

fits the environmental goals of this customer to use recyclable materials and maximize waste

reduction. Finally Susan claims: “The converters are very trustworthy and reliable. In the near future

we will also gain significantly in storage space.”
