•China makes up roughly 4 million sq. mi. (similar to the USA)•about 6.5 per cent of the world total land area.•the third largest country in the world.•China is bordered by 14 countries’•China is a mountainous country.

Resources•Most people in China still work as farmers or herders. Major crops include wheat and rice. •Fishing is also a major industry along the coasts.
Weather and Temperature• Different regions of China have

heavy rainfall.• The Southeast has a tropical
climate. It is the wettest region. During the monsoon season they can get up to 250 inches of rain.

SCHOOL SYSTEM
What Is the School System Like in China?
• Education is required and free for Chinese citizens age 6 to 15 though parents must pay small fees for books and uniforms. • Chinese children all get a primary
and middle school public education. Each classes averages 35 students• After middle school,
parents must pay for public high school .
• Do Chinese Students Have Spring Break and Summer Vacation?
• During Spring Festival in mid-January.
• The next break is for China’s labor holiday, which occurs during the first few days of May.
• Finally, students have a summer vacation which is much shorter than in the US. Summer vacation typically begins in mid-July.
• What Classes Are Offered in School in China?
• Chinese students attend classes five or six days a week from early morning (about 7am) to early evening (4pm or later).
• Math and science, students take Chinese, English, history, literature, music, art and physical education. China’s teaching methodology differs from Western education methodology.
• Schools in China have after school activities, like sports and music lessons, but these activities are not as extensive as those found in international schools and schools in the West, While team sports are becoming more popular, competition among schools.
FAMOUS PERSONALITIES.
Jackie Chan.• Actor, choreographer, comedian,
producer, stuntman, director, and martial artist, who has won over 27 film awards.
• He studied music, dance and martial arts at the China Drama Academy.
• He has stars on both the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars and Hollywood Walk of Fame, and his Chinese name means "Cannonball."
JET LI.
• Wushu martial arts champion and
actor who won the Hong Kong Film
• At age eight, he began training in the martial arts, joining the Beijing Wushu Team.
Yao Ming• 7'5" center who was the first overall
pick of the 2002 NBA.
• He practiced 10 hours a day in order to make the Shanghai Sharks junior team at the age of 13.
• At the Beijing Summer Olympics 2008, he had the honor of carrying the Chinese flag and leading the delegation during the opening ceremony.
RELIGION OF CHINA.
• China has been a multi-religion country since the ancient times
• 85% of Chinese people have religious beliefs or had some religious practices and only 15% of them are real atheists
• 185 million people believe in Buddhism
• 33 million have faith in Christianity and believes in the existence of God.
• 12 million people are Taoists,

DOMINANT RELIGION
BUDDHISM:• Being brought into China 2,000 years ago,
• Buddhism has developed into the most important religion in the country
• 31% of the people who do not believe in this religion
• 34 different levels of Buddhist academies as well as almost 50 magazines can be found
• there are about 13 thousand temples and 180 thousand monks and nuns
CONFUCIANISM:• Confucianism is not a real
religion, is just an ethical and philosophical system
• Confucianism has worldwide influence
• In China, you can find many Confucius temples, which is an important place for the candidates for important exams
TAOISM:
• 300 Taoist Temples are scattered around China
• 30 thousand Taoists lived in Taoist temples
• 5 Taoist schools exist in the country
• Apart from Mainland China, many Taoists live in Hong Kong, Macau and some foreign countries
