One of my favourite hobbies is singing with Nidus Children's Choir. I love both singing and the social life which revolves around being in such an organisation. We have starred in TV programmes, sung live in Euro Disney and so much more. Silver VII diploma in a competition wi th over 65 successfu l & wel l established children's choirs from all over the world. The choir currently stands at 42 regular members plus 2 trainees.

During 2011 we performed publicly over 25 times, with performances ranging from mini concerts in wards for elderly long term patients at a local hospital, civic events, weddings, WIs, Senior Citizen Groups, guest appearances with other leading choirs in Wales as well as our own concerts. Nidus Children's

Choir was formed in the Autumn of 2006 after a small group of primary school aged children won a gold medal in the summer at a local Eisteddfod after just two short rehearsals.

Nidus Children's Choir has grown steadily in numbers and achieved much success over the few years the choir has been together. In 2008 after a gruelling fundraising campaign, the choir qualified to compete in the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria.

We were thrilled to be awarded a During 2011, the choir also recorded two CD's, appeared live on 'Wedi Saith" (S4C) and took part in a tour to Paris; singing at Disneyland Paris, by the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and in "La Madeline" church.

For more information on the “Support Your School Recycling Campaign”

visit www.supportyourschool.co.uk

At Croesyceiliog School we always try our best to keep on top of environmental issues. Whether that means creating attractive posters or encouraging the use of recycling boxes in school. However, this year, Mrs. Vaughan and her Eco-C o m m i t t e e a r e p u s h i n g t h e s e environmental issues further, making Croesyceiliog a greener school.

The Eco-Committee recently expressed their concerns about paper usage in the school. Statistics have revealed that it takes one tree to produce half a box of paper, this number could be drastically reduced if we simply recycled our paper. So the committee have decided to allocate paper bins in each classroom, monitored by form representatives.

Croesyceiliog have joined the “Support Your School- Recycling Campaign.” A scheme which raises funds for school equipment through the recycling of mobile phones and inkjet cartridges.

All pupils across the school will be provided with “Support Your School” envelopes to collect empty cartridges and unwanted mobile phones. Once youʼve collected your mobiles and inkjet cartridges please bring them back in the enve lope to Mrs. Vaughan. The envelopes will then be sent to the campaign where they will pay £1 for every cartridge and up to £150 for mobile phones.

So get collecting and start recycling with “Support Your School Campaign” now!

GOING THETHE YEAR SEVENS RAISE MONEY FOR THE SPORT RELIEF MILE!Getting a group of year sevens to run a mile last lesson of the week would seem an impossible task. However on Friday 16th March, the entire year ran (or walked) two laps of the West field in aid of sport relief.

A chilly breeze welcomed the pupils as they made their way to the starting line, but they didnʼt let the cold weather stop them! Some pupils were even dressed in an outstanding array of costumes and

colour, putting creativity and originality to the test. The race began and excitement was stirring amongst the pupils and spectators. Clear winners were soon finding themselves ahead of the rest and some students took a tumble just minuets into running.

Teachers were also encouraged to take part in the race. Some ran whilst others encouraged by the sidelines.

EXTRA MILEThe race, organised by Mr. Pryce and his form group, 10NP, was enjoyed by all pupils in the school. Mr Pryce was thrilled by the efforts that went into the day and would like to thank all pupils and staff that took part or helped make the day a success.

A total of over £600 pounds was raised, which will transform the lives of

disadvantaged children in the UK and in some of the poorest countries around the world. If youʼve been inspired by the efforts of Croesyceiliog School you can donate to the Sport Relief charity by visiting www.sportrelief.com.

First to cross the finishing line was Cole from 7HT. Dressed as a Hoola Girl, Cole said that it “felt really good” crossing the line first. He also added that it “was just a one off day, so we might as well all have fun!”

Our ʻBest Dressedʼ award goes to Alfie, who dressed up as a hippie to run the mile. He was excited about the event and we loved his costume!
