Tape reader controls; L-R, Power switch, Power indicator, the bit pattern display, direction switch and continuous/single step switch.

The paper tape transport and reader head. The tape is driven from below; magnets are used to pull the cover down to help keep the tape flat. The reader head photocell sensors are mounted in the khaki coloured block left of centre.
