Licensing Tutorial

At this point, you should have engaged with your local Citrix Service Provider distributor, completed your application and signed your agreement. The next step is to provide your distributor with a zero dollar purchase order (also referred to as a stocking order). This order specifies which levels of the program you plan to use and allows Citrix to provide your licenses.

Under the Citrix Service Provider program you have the choice of using the Base level, Premium level or a combination of the two for subscriber licenses. Both levels will deliver 1,000 licenses. If you need more than 1,000 licenses to start or at any time thereafter, you can process another stocking order to receive additional licenses.

Purchase order choices are: • Premium: XenDesktop Platinum Edition, XenApp Platinum Edition. see link for

details• XenApp Base: XenApp Advanced Edition (Base is equivalent to XenApp Advanced

and XenDesktop VDI Edition

Many Citrix Service Providers choose to expand their hosted offerings with additional Citrix technologies. Currently, they can also offer these Citrix technologies: • Citrix NetScaler VPX (available in several bandwidth and version options) • Citrix NetScaler Gateway Enterprise VPX • Citrix Workspace Suite • Citrix Sharefile• Citrix SD-WAN VPX (available in several bandwidth and version options) • Citrix CloudPortal Services Manager • Citrix XenMobile

Stocking SKUs and reporting SKUs for these additional Citrix technologies will be provided by your Citrix Service Provider distributor.

How to Configure XenDesktop 7.1

to recognize XenApp Citrix Service

Provider Base SKU Licenses

To install XenApp or XenDesktop install XenDesktop license as user device and then configure for either XenDesktop or XenApp user/device

Premium and Base equate to the following license editions:• Premium – Configure as XenApp Platinum Edition • Base – Configure as XenApp Advanced Edition

All Citrix Service Provider licenses under XenApp and XenDesktop must be set up and reported as user licenses. This is done by configuring licensing settings as user/device on the XenApp or XenDesktop site, and requires XenApp 6.5 or XenDesktop 5.6 or newer versions.

Concurrent license configurations and use of Citrix licenses provisioned or acquired outside the CSP program is not supported within the Citrix Service Provider program. You will have the option to configure the licensing model by setting appropriate XenApp policies. Below are screen shots outlining the settings for usage based model licensing and the correct settings for product edition.

The best way to check that indeed User/Device licenses are being checked out is to go to the License Server Admin web console:

Any “Concurrent” entry should have a 0 count, and User/Device should have a positive count.By clicking “Hosts” next to the expiration, the Xenapp servers using concurrent licenses will be listed.

Caution: We recommend

performing these changes during non-production hours via Maintenance Windows, as reboots might be required depending on your overall Farm policies configuration and Domain Controller topology.

Learn more about licensing information sent to Citrix

The License Usage Insights (LUI) Service in Citrix Cloud is a free cloud service that helps Citrix Service Providers (CSP) understand and report on product usage.

The purpose of the LUI service is to make it easy for Citrix Service Provider partners to understand which Citrix products are in use and at what capacity. Only CSP partners have access to the LUI service.

The License Usage Insights service will enable you to:Automatically collect and aggregate product usage information from Citrix license servers Easily view which users are accessing your XenApp and XenDesktop deployments each month Optimize license costs by identifying and tracking a list of free users View and understand your historic business with Citrix

Updating Citrix license servers for use with the Citrix License Usage Insights Service is a requirement for all Citrix Service Provider Partners and must be deployed upon sign up or renewal of agreement.Citrix license servers with a Citrix Service Provider license installed will have product license management features enabled that periodically send information back to Citrix about product license utilization. Only information required to offer and manage the Citrix Service Provider monthly usage based licensing model is collected.

As outlined in the program guide, as a Citrix Service Provider you have a 60-day grace period before you begin reporting to your Citrix Service Provider distributor. This period provides time for you to set up your environment and begin signing up customers. Once a customer is billed for using Citrix software you must begin reporting and paying for usage.

You also can provide customers with a 30-day evaluation period before you begin billing them. This scenario only applies to customers that are not paying you for your services. Once the customer begins paying it is no longer an evaluation. All evaluations must be reported to your Citrix Service Provider distributor.

On day 10 of each month you must report usage and evaluations to your Citrix Service Provider distributor and submit a purchase order for usage. If you have used the 60-day grace period and have not yet begun billing any customers, you must report zero usage to your distributor. Once you have completed your grace period, if you report two consecutive months of zero usage, Citrix reserves the right to terminate you from the program.

The Citrix Service Provider reporting template, available from your distributor, must be completed for all customers being billed for services or provided evaluations.

Single customers with more than 500 users reporting must be identified by name and full address, including postal code and country. This customer information will remain confidential within the program and will only be used for accurately compensating Citrix sales teams. If a customer explicitly requests to remain anonymous, you can provide an anonymous identifier for the customer with the understanding that you will maintain a file identifying the customer in case an audit is performed. In all cases the customer information must include address, postal code and country.

Your distributor will supply guidance on when you should provide a purchase order for your usage and will be responsible for all credit and billing issues.

ShareFile licenses are delivered as a link to a web form that can be populated for provisioning of a multi-tenant storage zone for a Partner by the Citrix ShareFile team. Once a Partner activates an account by assigning and end user email address it become active and billable until de-provisioned by the Partner. When provisioning users for a partner there will be one administrative license included which isn’t a paid license.
