Press plunger with thumb and move lever to desiredposition-
The cutting height range is approximately 1ol/4" to 3-3/4".The heights are measured from the ground to the blade tipwith the engine not running, These heights are approxi-ma{e and may vary depending upon soil condltlons, heightof grass and types of grass being mowed
The average _awn should be cut approximately 2-!/2Inches during the cool season and over 3 inches duringhot months For healthier and better looking lawns, mow often and after moderate growth.
For best cutting performance, grass over 6 Inches Inheight should be mowed twice Make the first cutrelatively high; the second to desired height.

TO TRANSPORT
Raise attachment lift control to highest position
• When pushing or towing your unit, be sure gearshiftlever is In "NEUTRAL" position
Do not push or tow unit at more than five (5) MPH
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINECHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL (See Fig. 16)
The engine [n your unit has been shipped, from thefactory, already tilted with summer weight e_l
Check engine o11with unit on level ground,
Remove oil fill dipstick and wipe dean, replace andscrew cap tight, wait for a few seconds, remove andread oil level. If necessary, add oil unlit "FULL" markan dipstick Is reached Do not overfill.
For cold weather operation you should change oil foreasier starting (see "OIL VISCOSITY CHART" In theMaintenance section of this manual).
• To change engine oli, see the Maintenance section inlhts manual,
ADD GASOLINEFtlt fuel tank Use fresh clean regular unleadedgasoline. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbonand lead oxide deposits and reduce valve life).
IMPORTANT; WHEN OPERATING IN TEMPERA-TURES BELOW 32°F, USE FRESH,CLEAN WINTER GRADE GASOLINETOHELP iNSURE GOOD COLD WEATHERSTARTING.
WARNING; Experience indicales {hal alcohol blendedfuels (called gasollol or using ethane! or methanol ! csnattract moisture which leads to separation and forma!ion elacids during storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage To avoid engineproblems, the fuel system should be emptied before stor-age of 30 days or longer, Dra_n the gas tank, start theengine and let it run untII the fuel lines and carburetor areempty, Use fresh rue! next season See Storage Instruc-tions for addllional information. Never use engine orcarburetor cleaner products In the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

OPERATION
TO START ENGINE (See Fig. 7)When starting engine for the first time or if engine has runout of fuel_ tt wilt lake extra cranking time to move fuel fromthe tank to the engine
Depress the clutch/brake pedat and set the parkingbrake
Place gearshift lever In "NEUTRAL" position.
Move attachment clutch to "DISENGAGED" position,
Move throltta control lever to"CHOKE" position for coldengine start, For warm engine start, move throttlecontrol to =FAST" position,
• Turn Ignition key clockwise to "START" position andrelease key as soon as engine starts, Do not runstarter continuously for more than fifteen seconds perminute. If engine does not start after severalaltempls, move throttle control to "FAST' position, wait a fewminutes and try agath
. When engine starts, slowly move throttle control ieverto desired running speed
Allow engine to warm up for a few minutes beforeengaging drive or attachment ciulch
NOTE: If at a high altitude (above 3000 feet or .9Ikilometers) or In cotd temperatures (below 32"F), thecarburetor fuel mixture may need to be adjusted for bestengine performance See 'TO ADJUST CARBURETOR"in the Service and Adlustments section of this manuat
MOWING TIPSTire chains cannot be used when the mower housingis attached to unit,,
• Mower should be properly leveled for best mow!,ngperformance, See "TO LEVEL MOWER HOUSING Inthe Service and Adtustments section of this manual,,
Use the runner on the right hand side of mower as atghuide, The blade cuts approximately an Inch outside
s runner (See Fig. 8) r
• The left hand side of mower should be used for trim-mlng
Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the areathat has been cut. Have the cut area to the right of themachine. This will result in a more even distribution ofclippings and more uniform cutting.
When mowing large areas, start by turning to the rightso that clippings will discharge away from shrubs, fences, driveways, etc. After one or two rounds, mowIn the opposite direction maklng left hand turns untilfinished (See Fig, 9),
FtG. g
tf grass is e×tremety tall it shouJd be mowed twice toreduce load and possible fire hazard from dr ed c p.pings. Make first cut relatively high; the second to thedesired height
Do not mow grass when It Is wet Wet grass will plugmower and leave undes#abta dumps. Atlow grass todry before mowing
A_ways operate engine at ful! throttle when mowing toassure better mowing performance and proper dis-charge of material, Regulate ground speed by select-ing a low enough speed to give the mower cuttingperformance as well as the quality of cut deslred.
When operating attachments, select a ground speedthat will suit the terrain and give best performance ofthe attachment being used

TO ADJUST CARBURETOR (See F|g. 34)
The carburetor has been preset at the factory and adjust.,ment should not be necessary,, However, minor adjust*ment may be req uired to compensate for differences In fuel, temperature, altitude or load, If the carburetor does needadjustment, proceed as felfows:
in general, turning the mixture screws In (clockwise) de-creases the supply of fuel to the engine giving a leaner lust/air mixture, Turning the mixture screws out (counter-clockwise) increases the supply of fuel to the engine givinga richer lust/air mixture
IMPORTANT; DAMAGE TO THE NEEDLES AND THESEATS IN CARBU RETOR MAY RESULTIF SCREWS ARE TURNED iN TOOTIGHT
PRELIMINARY SETTING -
Be sure you have a clean air filter and the throttlecontrol cable is adjusted propedy (see above)
With engine off turn high speed mixture screw in(clockwise) c_oslng it finger tight and then turn out(counterclockwise) f -112 turns,
Turn idle mixture screw in (clockwise) closing fingertight and then turn out (counterclockwise) 1 turn.
FINAL SETTING -
Start engine and allow to warm for five minutes. Makefinal adjustments with engine running and shift/motioncontrol lever in "NEUTRAL" position_
With throttle control tever in "FAST" position, turn highspeed mixture screw In (clockwise) unti! engine beginsto die then turn out (counterclockwise) untll engine runsrough. Turn screw to a point midway between thosetwo positions,
With throttle control lever in "SLOW" position, turn idlemixture screw in (clockwise) unfit engine begins to dieand then turn out (counterclockwise) until engine runsrough. Turn screw to a point midway between thosetwo positions
With throttte control lever in "SLOW" position, engineshouldidle at 2100 RPM If engtne idles too slow, movethrottle control lever above Idle end turn Idle speedscrewfn (clockwise) oneturn. Setthrotttecontrolleverat "SLOW", Repeat until satisfactory idle is altained_
If engine idles too fast in "SLOW" position move throttlecontrol lever above idle and turn idle speed screw out(counterclockwise) one turn, Set throttle control leverat "SLOW" Repeat untO!satisfactory idle is attained.
ACCELERATION TEST -
