System for automatic level crossing free detection The systems for automatic level crossing free detection (GFR) serve for the safe monitoring of the danger zone at the level crossing. At installations with full barriers this system replaces the demanded optictal monitoring of the danger zone. Up to now, REM has successfully provided already more than 25 BS2000 installations with the GFR radar system of the company REM DE, hereby realising an effective solution for the automatic level crossing free detection. We offer such solution as integrated complete systems under our guarantee.

Radar scanner

Radar scannerThe Honeywell radar scanner is an auto-

matic monitoring system for detection of

objects (roadway traffic) located between

the gates of a level crossing. The system

sends an output signal “crossing clear” or

“crossing occupied”.

The detection of obstructions occurs by

means of a radar sensor for measuring

distances. This sensor is attached to a ro-

tating platform in a weatherproof casing.

With every rotation the radar generates a

horizontal scan of the section of roadway

between the railway gates.

The external limitations of the area moni-

tored are marked by reference reflectors

making it possible for the system to moni-

tor its function.

In order to detect an object located on the

level crossing, the echos recorded with

each scan are compared with reference

data in storage.

If an object is found to be inside the area

being monitored, then a corresponding

signal is sent to the level crossing control

system that prevents clearance for the train

passage.

The system functions are constantly being

checked by means of extensive self-tests.

The system meets the requirements of

EN 50129 with safety integrity level 3.
