This simple crochet scarf is made with a beautiful light
weight variegated yarn with deep blue shades.
This pattern is written using a 4ply yarn and a 3.5mm hook.
However, you can use this pattern to make a simple scarf
using whatever yarn you wish, all you need do is adjust the
number of stitches at the beginning, and then continue
until your work measures the length of scarf desired.
Similar to my other patterns have a play and have fun with
it. Once you get the hang of this simple pattern you can
make a variety of scarves with different yarns and various
hook sizes. For more ideas to play with, see MYO Make
Your Own on my website.
Before you begin:
read through the pattern to the end
select yarn and hook size
decide on the width of the scarf
calculate how many stitches you will need to
match the width
Special Note: If you are going to use a different yarn
weight and hook size you will need to calculate how many
stitches you will need to achieve your desired scarf width.
This pattern uses a V-stitch – to
calculate how many total stitches
you will need – the pattern formula
equates to multiples of 3 stitches
and then add 6 stitches e.g. 30
stitches (equals 10 V-sts) then add 6
stitches.
V-Stitch = 1dc, 1ch, 1dc in same ch
or sp.
In Row 1, V-st will be worked in
the same chain. In Rows 2
onwards, the V-st will be worked
in the same space.
Please Note: This is one variation of the V-stitch; you may
encounter other patterns that define a V-stitch differently.
Hint: Whenever I crochet the first row of any straight edge
garment I always like to use a hook one size large than
what I will be using for the rest of the piece. This way my
starting ch row has the same flexibility as my ending row.
H E R E ’ S T H E P A T T E R N :
Abbreviations:
Ch = chain, dc = double crochet; V-st = (1dc, 1ch, 1dc) in
same ch or sp; st/s = stitch/es; sp = space; ss = slip stitch.
Row 1:
Ch 48 sts; into 6th ch from hook *V-st [1dc, 1ch, 1dc] into
same ch, skip 2 ch, repeat from * to end; 1dc into last ch,
turn.
Row 2:
Ch3, *V-st into 1ch sp from previous row, repeat from * to
end, 1dc into top of ch3, turn.
Row 3-onwards:
Ch3, *V-st into 1ch sp from previous row, repeat from * to
end, 1dc into top of ch3, turn.
Continue in this manner until work measures 85” long (or
desired length).
Finish, hide ends.
You can embellish your scarf with whatever you wish –
buttons, crochet flowers, stars, or hearts, whatever? It’s
all up to you and your creative imagination!
