The walk starts at the Visitors Centre and is around a small scenic lake with the caves in the hillside crags on either side of the lake – there is a nice picnic area – information boards with the history of the crags – a host of wild flowers - and it is well worth a visit to the Visitors Centre Museum and learn of the history of the Crags.

This walk can be extended by –

A] Visiting the village of Creswell and the Creswell Model Village which was designed back in 1895 for the miners of Creswell and based upon the Principal of building houses around a village green with an oval shape. [ see map route in blue in photo gallery ] B] In the opposite direction to the Dukeries Garden Centre and Harley Art Gallery [ well worth the visit ], but you would have to cross the A 60 road. [ see map route in red in photo gallery ]

Facilities – A new large Visitors Centre, gifts shop books & leaflets – Museum – Classrooms - Slide Show - Crags / Caves - Lake - You can also get a guided tour with access to 2 caves, for a charge. There is a pay and display car park and also a separate disabled car park situated in front of the Visitors Centre.

Café – There is an excellent Café inside the Visitors Centre.

Toilets - Well equipped toilets and disabled toilets in the Visitors Centre.

Path - The path surface is made up of crushed rolled-in stone and is quite smooth. It is suitable for all types of wheelchairs – but there are some small inclines and manual wheelchairs will need a pusher. A] If you extend this walk to Creswell it is on a quiet road, which crosses the A 616 which as shown on the map. B] If you extend the walk from the Visitors Centre in the opposite direction to The Dukeries Garden Centre it is on an compacted soil path [ only suitable for manual wheelchairs with a pusher when dry ], then turn right on the A 60 road on the pavement before crossing this road [ which can be quite busy ] to the Dukeries Garden Centre. Information – At the Visitors Centre there are many leaflets and there is more information on the Creswell Crags website about the dates and times for the guided tour around the caves, and prices etc. There are also rooms for educational visits and parties visiting the Crags. Directions – The Crags are 4 miles from the M1 and about 4 miles from Worksop and the entry road to the Crags is from the A60 on the Mansfield road and the Crags are signposted – please use the Creswell Crags website.
