Bro. Everett Mitchell was selected as the member focus for this edition. He is a long time member of Creston Missionary Baptist Church for more than 30 years. At Creston, he has contributed so much to our church and has served as a drug counselor, youth Sunday School teacher, President of the Brotherhood and Treasurer and Secretary of the Male Chorus. For our young men, he have been a mentor, a friend and brother in Christ. After visiting Creston several times and listening to the late Pastor Leroy Ross, he stated he enjoyed his mes- sages and his friend Nolan Williams was already a member. Rev. Ross messages appeared to be directed to- wards me and pricked my heart, he recalled. His favorite scripture is James 3:17. He further stated that realiz- ing how good God has been to him, he turned around 180 degrees and attempted to be what he wants me to be. He stated, I will spend the remaining part of my life serving him because God has set me free. Jesus did not stay dead for long. Early Sunday morning, near sunrise, some disciples discovered that the Son of God had risen. Birthday Wishes! “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

The Creston Church Family salutes all born in the second quarter of 2015: April, May and June.

May the Lord God Bless You REAL GOOD!

From the Pastor’s Pen I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Philippians 1:3-6

Dear Christian Brothers and Sisters, I greet you in the name of God the father, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, our Comforter and guide. Words cannot begin to describe the feeling that I have at this moment. As I reflect over the last year here, the only word I can use to sum up the experience is “awesome”! What a wonderful time we have had in this anointed place. Serving as Pastor here is truly a humbling calling that I do not take lightly or for granted. I speak truthfully from my heart when I say that I needed Creston Missionary Baptist Church more than Creston

Missionary Baptist Church needed me. I thank God for this wonderful opportunity that He has bestowed upon me. Serving as pastor here has helped me in my spiritual growth through the preaching and teaching of God’s

Word. We have been witnesses to the magnificent power of Jesus Christ throughout the past year. If there are any doubters, we should be able to testify that God is alive and still in the miracle working business. I strive to de-liver the Word of God in plain and simple terms where we all can get an understanding of what God is trying to tell us. I solicit your continued prayers in my ministry here. I pray that the God of grace, mercy, and peace will forever be in your lives, your homes, and every endeavor you undertake. Thank you all again for the wonderful experi-ence that you have given me in this position that God has called me to. Let us always look to Jesus and live for His return; loving one another in brotherly love and serving him in spirit and in truth. Know that you all are special to me and I carry a love for you in my heart that is unsurpassed.

Your Humble Servant in Christ,

Rev. Godwin H. Haynes

Brotherhood, Christian Men Standing Up For Christ The Brotherhood started off the new year with its Annual Brotherhood Conference. This year’s theme is, Finish-ing Strong in the Lord.

The conference yielded great speakers and was well attended. Deacon Kenneth Davis spearheaded this year’s event and we also welcomed our new Brotherhood president, Bro. Orlando Hayward. He wrapped up the event with some very encouraging words. The Brotherhood is an exciting auxiliary at Creston to be a part of, it fo-cuses on being good Christian men and disciples of Christ. We study the word of God and encourage others to do so as well. Some of the other things we do are: support our youth, specifically our church high school graduates, with funds to continue their education; give flowers to one of the women of the church every 4th Sunday as a means of our respect and appreciation for who they are; and cook breakfast for the women of the church on Mother’s Day as well. To the men of Creston, come join us every 4th Thursday of each month at 7pm and become a part of something great. Let's continue to stand up as men and more importantly stand up for Christ

Making Our Community Safe and Better With the summer months approaching, many of our youth will be looking for something to do. Jobs are scarce and often times they find themselves hanging out with the wrong crowds. Many times, whether it be purposely or unintentional our youth can find themselves getting into situations that parents try to prevent. Parents work hard to provide and give their kids the things that they desire, and in many instances, they don’t really need or have earned. Parents continue to attempt justifying their actions by saying” I want them to have the things my parents were not able to provide for me”. That’s acceptable if the child has been doing things that we as parents ask them to do. Children must show some responsibility in the areas of performing their best in school, sharing household duties, and taking advantage of their spiritual gifts. Let’s all have a safe and happy summer.

BLACK History MONTH Black History Month this year at Creston was enjoyed through some exceptional speakers and great food. Sis. Ann Green headed this year’s lineup of speakers and what an exceptional job she did. Sis. Martha Lathan, La Trivia Edwards, Sis. Della Butler and Bro Lester Billups were the outstanding speakers for the month. Thanks Sis. Green for a job well done. Sis. Joyce Hebert and the her matrons had a Black History program on Sunday February 22nd at 3 p.m. that was simply great and the food they served prior to the program was delicious and quite tasty. The youth program was awesome, as well as with the praise dancers leading into an afternoon of reflecting on past and present African Americans who have made tremendous contributions to our society. These contributions have made our lives better and more sustainable, many of these contributors were not compensated or rec-ognized for their efforts until much later. Our youth and their parents certainly should be commended for getting to rehearsals as well as participating in the program.

We are approaching the Easter season and should focus on the sacri-

fices that were made on our behalf.

1 Thessalonians 4:14 - For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

This scripture should be good news for all Christians. It reminds us

that Jesus has taken the sting out of death, and all believers will have

an everlasting life with God coming to them. So as we shop, cook and

enjoy family, let's remember the one who has paid the ultimate price for us all.

Happy Easter

May God Bless You

Creston MBC members had a great time this past football and basketball season attending games for Houston Baptist University for both sports. In football, we attended the homecoming game against Nichols State and a game against Sam Houston State. In basketball, we attended a game against University of New Orleans and a game against Sam Houston State. All sporting events were at-

tended in great numbers by our youth and church chaperones
