My hope is that you are taking time to worship with family and friends throughout the season of Lent. It’s a good time to do what Jesus did: gathering with friends for a meal, taking time for quiet prayer, and worshipping with others as was his custom according to the Bible.
Creator has been blessed over the past years with members who’ve been willing to share a portion of their faith story and life journey with us. All of them have been deeply personal, and many of them have proven both memorable and moving. Their witness is strong; clearly a step of faithfulness in learning to share the good news gos-pel of Jesus right from their own daily life and experience. It is a tradition Creator will keep! On top of that, it’s an excellent time to be refreshed by Holden Evening Prayer and be moved by Holy Week worship as we follow Jesus from Lord’s Supper, to garden, to trial, to cross. Last year’s Good Friday service was filled with power-ful images and engaging choir music in a most memorable way. This year’s Good Friday service looks to include a 4 part drama centered on the reactions of those who provided the whip, the crown of thorns, the nails and the cross used to crucify Jesus.
Lent is a season of reflection, repentance and change. It is a time for steady examination of what we do and do not add up to, a time for honesty and for thorough rethinking. Lent is a time when all Christians are invited to change their habits, change their minds, change their lives. So, what will you do, give, chose differently this coming year, all because Jesus has laid claim upon you once more?
Will you set a new pattern to your life? What changes will Jesus help work in you, for his sake, your sake and the sake of the world’s great needs?

Creator Preschool Dear Preschool families and church members,
Winter is winding down and spring is on the horizon! At Preschool, we are expecting March
weather to enter as a lion and leave as a lamb. Native Americans will be part of our studies this
month with an in-house field on March 28th and 29th. Hopefully, our
weather will be like a lamb! We will also learn about insects and talk
about the change from winter to spring.
Our shapes this month is the triangle and our color is green.
Our number is 7 for the younger classes and 13,14, and 15 for the
older classes. The letters this month are J,j, G,g, and H,h. And of
course, the children will be visited by a leprechaun who loves to leave
treasures!

A time to be fools for Christ! This is the 12th annual “lock-out” including teens from the Southwest Washington Synod. That means you will have a chance to mingle with
150 other youth from around the state. We will enjoy a wild and crazy night of worship, travel, swimming, open gym, ice-skating, roller skating, bowling and much more. We will meet here at the church at 6:30 pm on Friday, April 12. We will drive down to Olympia where we will register and play games. Then we will travel around the Puget Sound area to have an all night blast. We will return to the church the following morning at 6:15 am. The cost of this exciting night is only $35 per person. This includes admission to all events and food at one of the sights. Bring gym clothes, swim suit, towel, a water bottle, money for snacks along the way.
Payment of $35 and registration form must be turned in to Terri by April 7th

Creator Connection
How often do you pray? Do you know how often God wants you to pray? Some of us only pray when we are in desperate need of some-thing or worried about someone we love. Some pray only before meals. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5: 17, “Pray at ALL times”. That means that God wants to hear from us when we are happy, when we are sad, when we are worried, and when we are excited, when we need something, and when we are satisfied. He wants to have a close relationship with us all the time, and that means we need to communicate with Him.
I am currently reading a book called Unbinding the Gospel. I love this book because it reminds me that prayer is the super glue that makes my bond with God so strong. The author of Unbinding the Gospel encourages readers to be consistent with daily devotions and to spend time listening to God. Since I began reading this book, my life is beginning to look a little different. My work is different, and my family relationships are different. I have learned that if God is at the center of my life, then prayer MUST also be. Prayer centers my thoughts and my plans.
So, now I take my devotion book everywhere I go. I have a Bible app on my phone, and use it for devotions. I still worry sometimes that I don’t have time to pray or to read the Bible. But every time I stop my activities to pray and feel God’s presence, I somehow finish everything I need to do.
“Be persistent in prayer, and keep alert as you pray, giving thanks to God”
--Colossians 4: 2

Turning Preaching and Teaching into Practice On Tuesday, February 11th we received a call from our Veterinarian that our dog Joe was
very ill. We had him checked by a surgeon who told us that there was a chance that he could be saved but the surgery would be between $4000 and $5000. We were fortunate to be able to say go ahead. Unfortunately, he was sicker than even they thought and we had to let him go.
Why did I tell you this? The reason is, once more, this brought home to us the importance of advocating for issues with both our state and national legislators. Joe was our dog and we loved him and would do anything we could for him. We thought, what if it hadn’t been our dog, but our child. And what if we did not have the personal means or insurance to say do whatever needs to be done? Every day in our state and nation people are put in those situations and were it not for publicly supported health care and other programs they would have no hope.
Yet, every year these are some of the first programs mentioned to be cut to help reduce the deficit. As people of faith we must advocate for programs that provide safety nets for those less fortunate and for programs that insure that all citizens of this country are treated fairly.
Advocacy is not easy, it means writing letters or emails, making calls, and even going to speak directly to our elected officials. It is not a political action but an act of faith based on our Christian belief of caring for all of God’s people. It is our hope that as a faith community we will find the time and courage to become more vocal in the support of issues that impact members of our larger community. If you have any questions, comments, or ideas please contact me (Dave Anderson) at [email protected].
The Altar Guild is having a meeting on Sunday, March 10 at 9:45 in the Sanctuary.
Please join us if you have an interest in preparing the Sanctuary for worship. You might
know that the Altar Guild ran smoothly since the church started back in 1984, due in
large part to the consistent participation of Juanita Hickok. Juanita is no longer able to
participate in church activities. Her absence has left a hole in our hearts and in the
effectiveness of the Altar Guild. This meeting is to share ideas that can increase the
efficiency of the Altar Guild.

Treasurer’s Report: Janice reported that January revenue was significantly diminished, the lowest revenue in the last 12 months. Some expenses were offset by discretionary funds (i.e. Stephen Ministry training), but Crea-tor is currently approx. $4,158 in the “red.” Janice noted that Account 0206 for Christian Education ($500) is missing as a line item in the 2013 budget; Janice will check with Julie regarding that. The designated funds have been regrouped by Ministry responsibilities. An additional column was added to show what Ministry/Lead would have responsibility to manage that fund. A few questions regarding the discretionary funds came up. In account 3460, Memorials, the questions were: 1) what funds are included in this account; and 2) does the ac-count include church usage fees charged for funerals or donations designated for specific projects. A similar question was raised for the Wedding fund. Janice will get clarification on this. Janice also recommended mov-ing $800 from the Wreath fund to the Youth Program fund for upcoming mission trips; Janice motioned, Rexanne seconded and the motion carried. Janice and

Stewardship: Our Giving
Creator Connection
Stephen Ministry here at Creator Creator Lutheran has become a Stephen Ministry congregation. What does this mean? We are beginning
a ministry that will help us train and organize some of our members to provide quality care and extend the
caring ministry that Pastor Kim and Intern Jonette already do. This will multiply the amount of caring
ministry that Creator can provide by giving us a team of skilled caregivers who are equipped to bring
Christ’s healing love to people who are grieving, in crisis, or experiencing other stresses in life. Two
members, Deborah Anderson and Cindy Totten, have recently completed an intensive weeklong training
course to help us to organize and perform this ministry of care. Please watch the weekly bulletin and
monthly newsletter for upcoming news about our Stephen Ministry.
The back of our church bulletin recently read "giving is the lowest it has been in 12 months"? Did you
read that, too? What was your initial reaction? I wish I could say that I stopped and prayed, but I
didn't. I just kept reading the rest of the news on the back cover, wanting to see what else was new
at Creator. But the other clips did not cover up the words.
As the stewardship chair, I struggled with thoughts of failure -"giving is the lowest it has been in 12
months because I am not doing my job. If I had done more, if I had been more inspirational in my
approach to this ministry, if I did not miss the January deadline for last month's news article, if I
could run our monthly meetings better, etc. ... the results would certainly be different." It did not
take a full minute to be convicted of this wrong thinking. I stopped and tonight I prayed. My
perspective was wrong on every level.
Thank you, Lord, for forgiving me and giving me a higher view of you. Thank you for helping me
understand that "Giving is the lowest"...well, because it is, because it is about us, because it is about
all of us!
Giving is about you and me and the Holy Spirit - not about a person's lack of effort but about our
faith family's values. When we give to Creator's general fund, we give to the work of the Holy Spirit,
in response to what God has done for us. When the giving is up, we are better able to fund our youth
programs, our pastor's work, our music ministry, our neighbors in need, our synod services, maintain
our place of worship and community gathering, support Lutheran educational programs and so
many, many other works of God. When our giving is up, the Holy Spirit's job in us is working, and our
joy is up!
I am so grateful for us- for you and me and the Holy Spirit, all working together. With time and
prayer, I can just see our bulletin read,"Giving is the highest it has ever been and for the highest
reason it could ever be!" Won't that be great to see in bold print!
Please join me in prayer that our giving will grow upward the whole year through.
Glori Walker, Stewardship Chair

Creator Forms Relay for Life Team
Creator Connection
The Creator CARES (Cancer Awareness Research Education Services) Team is forming again to walk in the first ever Bonney Lake Relay For Life event! That’s right; Bonney Lake has its own Relay For Life event this year! The walk is scheduled for June 28 and 29 at Bonney Lake High School. Last year the Creator CARES team had 30 members and raised over $11,400 to fight cancer. We were the #1 fund-ing raising team last year! This year our financial goal is $7500 and I am convinced that we will exceed that amount. On Sunday, March 17, we will have a short meeting after each service to organize our team and fund
raising efforts. Both meetings should last no longer than 10-15 minutes. Please plan on attending.
In the meantime, please Google or Bing the Bonney Lake Relay For Life or go to the Bonney Lake Relay website at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=53925 to sign up for the Creator CARES team. If you were a team member in the past two years your profile information has been saved and you only have to remember/rediscover your user name and log-in password to sign up for Creator Team. I will have sign-up information at the team meeting for newcomers. If you have any questions, please contact me, Mike Rutkosky, via email ([email protected]) and/or telephone (360 897-6359).
Creator Foundation Fund announcement The Foundation Fund was established to support and enhance the mission and ministry of Creator Lutheran Church.
Per the Governing Procedures of the Fund we will be distributing $6,270 in 2013. The guidelines for distribution are divided between opportunities within Creator’s missions and opportunities for outside needs. The Foundation Committee is accepting requests during the months of Febru-ary and March. Forms requesting funds are available in the office from Julie or on Creator’s web site. Evaluations of the requests will be done in May and June with funds being dispersed by June 30th.
For more information please see the Foundation Fund Policies and Procedures on the Creator web site. If you are interested in contributing to the Foundation Fund you can do that per your regular giving process, just make sure to designate your gift “Foundation Fund”.

You’re Invited to Synod Assembly!
Creator Connection
The Southwestern Washington Synod Assembly is scheduled for June 7-8, 2013. It will take place at the Hotel Murano and Bicentennial Pavilion in Tacoma. This Assembly is charged with conducting the business of our Synod for the next year and this year that business includes electing a new Bishop for the next six years. The Administrative Council selected the voting delegates for the Southwestern Washington Synod Assembly on February 12, 2013 and they are Mike Rutkosky, Rexanne Forbes, and Judi Richardson. If you have always wanted to know what happens at the Assembly or see the process in person, you are welcome to attend as an observer (there is no need to register). The Synod Assemblies are always open to anyone and if you are interested in what happens during this meeting, here is your opportunity to get an up close look at the administration and operation of the greater Church. If you have questions about the Assembly or about attending, feel free to ask any of the delegates or Pastor Kim.
Thank you, Creator! The following Thank you note was received from a family that Creator sponsored through the Church in Society Christmas Families that were helped this past Christmas.
To the Pastor, Paula Eismann and the Congregation of Creator Lutheran,
“We would like to thank all of you for your gifts and kindness shown to our grandson Luke Beardemphl and his family. Their Christmas was much enhanced by your Christian generosity. Luke was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at age 17 right after he graduated from high school. He had been slated to attend the University of Hawaii and play soccer for them. Instead he has spent almost 5 years in cancer treatment. He is now scheduled for a second bone marrow transplant but it has been postponed several times because of health issues. We are praying that it will go through this time and hopefully put him in remission. Luke has been a real trooper through it all– never complaining. Thank you so much for your caring and your love. It is so very much appreci-ated. “
