Final Year ProjectsFinal Major Project: The Healing GardenThis design saw the remodelling of a former girls school in Knaresborough to become a Headquarters of Practitioners of Phytotherapy and Phytotherapy Clinic. A sanctuary in the heart of Knaresborough. The Former Girls School lies silently at the top of the valley gazing down over spectacular views of the River Nidd and crumbling castle ruins. The town’s history is rooted in the idea of rest, healing, and medicine. The purposely-manipulated experiences of the building aim to engage the emotions of the viewer by appealing to all the senses, with an underlying objective of promoting Phytotherapy and healing. Tranquil winter gardens make visitors feel relaxed and intimate treatment rooms provide a safe and secure space for practition-ers to liaise with patients. Complemented by landscaped herbal gardens. The design was dealt with on various levels from macro to micro exploring landscape design, architecture and detail.

Comprehensive Design Report: The Healing GardenThe report assisted the design process. Researching and anaylsising various aspects of the project, including headings such as ‘Site Analysis’, ‘Environmental Analysis’, and ‘Case Studies’ was vital to understanding every single detail of the site, building, brief, and design.

Live Brief: Leeds City Varieties Music HallA live project located in an exising space just off the Headrow. The brief was to re-imagine a new box office and entrance to act as a threshold; a place to pass from the everyday to the otherworldly. My brief was inspired by the sounds and smells of the past; the design played on the senses creating an entrance for both the audience and performer. The design was considered conceptually before being rigorously developed into a final design proposal.
