Creating a Special PowerPoint Title Slide Using WordArt

1. Open a new slideshow and delete the topic and content textboxes

2. Click on the Insert tab and click on the WordArt tool icon. (Suggestion: start with the Fill – White Drop Shadow option. You can add the formatting as you go along.

3. Highlight the text and write a catchy title that might include something that describes something about your subject, along with their name.

3. If you want to add a picture into your text, it is best to first find a thick font that will allow you to see the image within the text.

• Thick fonts – Arial Black – Bondoni – Bauhaus – Broadway – Carbonblock – Cooper Black – Rockwell Extra

Bold – Showcard Gothic – Velvenda Cooler – Wide Latin

4. Find and copy an image in Google Images or you can use one saved on your computer

6. Highlight your text and right-click on the text and select Format Text Effects...

7. In the Format Text Effects window, click on Text Fill and Picture or texture fill. If your image is on your computer, click on File button and find it. If you copied the image on the Internet, click on the Clipboard button. Then, click Close.

8. Use the Drawing Tools Format ribbon to change your text

Insert Shape Tool • This tool allows you to add interesting shape you can use to enhance

the look of your slide. (Remember: just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.)

Edit Shape and Textbox Tools

If you prefer a different shape for your chosen shape or textbox,

select the border of the object and use Change Shape

To customize the shape of your chosen object, select it and use Edit Points. Click and drag the

borders to the desired shape (see below).

Shape Styles

Clicking on the arrow (see above, gives you a menu of instant fills and borders for your shape.

This tool allows you to put different colored fills, gradients and textures (as well as pictures ) into your shapes and textboxes.

This tool allows you to change the “look” of your image, including angle and borders.

This tool allows you to put different colored borders of varied styles and thicknesses around your shapes and textboxes.

Quick Styles

This tool allows you to quickly re-format your WordArt font and style without having to use the individual text tools to the right of Quick Styles tool.

Text Fill, Outline & Effects

This tool allows you to put different colored fills, gradients and textures (as well as pictures ) into your WordArt and regular text.

This tool allows you to change the “look” of your WordArt or regular text, including angle and borders.

This tool allows you to put different colored borders of varied styles and thicknesses around your WordArt and regular text.

Bring Forward, Send Backward and Selection Pane

These tools allow you to put images, text and other object on your slide in front of or behind each other in the order you desire. Bring Forward and Send Backward (above) are the quick and simple tools. For more advanced control, click on the Selection Pane tool (right) instead.

Align, Group and Rotate

This tool allows you to group two or more objects (text, images, etc.) into one – easily moveable) object.

This tool allows you to easily arrange your images onto your slide and space them evenly.

This tool allows you to quickly and easily change the direction and orientation of an image. Note it also works for text.

Size (Height & Width)

• This tool allows you to quickly and accurately resize your shape or text box to a desired size.

• If you change either the height or width, the other dimension changes automatically, so that your image is always proportional.

• This tool is especially useful if you have two or more images that you would like to be exactly the same height or width.

• It is also useful if you import an image that is extremely large to start with. You can resize it to a more manageable size easily by typing in a smaller dimension (such as 3”).
