Crawley Down to Charlwood – 11 miles (Start point TQ342372) Parking in layby in Crawley Down at TQ341371 and roadside parking in Charlwood (The

Street) at TQ241411.

Continue along the Worth Way for 1 mile until a concrete road (leading to the

Rowfant Industrial Estate) is reached.

Turn right, then keep to the right of the metal gate post, crossing a small bridge and

continue ahead, past a small pond, to Rowfant Lane.

Turn left onto Rowfant Lane and continue WITH CARE (no footpath) approximately

400 metres, passing the entrance to Rowfant House.

A few yards further on turn right (by the post box) into the drive of Rowfant Lodge.

Bear right, keeping to the left of the garage, to cross a stone bridge and then turn

left onto to the drive towards Rowfant House.

Continue to the buildings, passing through the castellated archway and then turning

immediately right.

Continue for 50 yards, bear left across the stream and then right (signposted) into a

wood, following the path uphill until a rough lane is reached.

Continue straight ahead long this lane passing Hill House, then Home Farm, on the

left.

At the end of the lane, by Rye Ashes, continue ahead onto a public footpath.

Cross a metal fence by stile and pass by a tall electricity pylon, continuing on this

footpath until it emerges, beside Hunters Lodge & Fishery, onto a dirt lane.

Continue straight ahead, bearing gently right at a 3-way junction on to a metalled

lane, until reaching the A264.

Cross the A264 WITH CARE and continue along the unmade lane opposite

(Copthorne Common Road) turning left at the end past “Surrey View”.

Follow this track turning first left, then right, until Roundabouts Farm.

Turn left on to Clay Hill Lane (TQ326398).

At the end of the road turn right and continue past the 'Cherry Tree' pub before

turning left opposite 'Nyahlands Farm'.

Head half right across field towards industrial units.

Turn left in front of units before turning right over stile in hedge.

With hedge on the left, head directly across field to the left hand corner.

Cross the road (B2037) and head along Church Road.

Immediately after road crosses a stream, turn left over stile.

In field turn half right to exit over a stile near the right hand corner of field.

Turn right, before immediately turning left back on to Church Road and continue,

passing Burstow Church on the left.

As the road bends right, turn left on bridleway (Church Lane).

Where track joins metalled road maintain direction ahead.

Cross the M23 and when reaching the road junction turn right and continue straight

on past the ‘No Through Road’ sign and pass under the bridge.

Beyond the first field take the footpath on the left following straight on over a bridge

and up some steps to reach two stiles.

Go through a kissing gate and continue to the B2036.

Turn right and cross the road and find footpath on the left.

Follow this path straight on over two stiles and then follow the enclosed path to the

Railway Bridge.

Cross the Railway Bridge and turn left.

Follow the path which is enclosed by fences on each side.

Turn right under a bridge and continue through a subway and under the Transit

Railway.

Turn left at sign that says “SOUTH TERMINAL” and go through the Subway.

At sign post go right through another subway (this goes under the A23) and turn right up

a ramped path to emerge at a roundabout.

Cross the road to Atlantic House opposite and turn right along Perimeter Road North,

with the Tramway on the right and the fencing to the airport on the left.

Immediately after the Police station on the right, turn right onto Gatwick Way

(fingerpost at this junction).

Keep ahead under the Tramway and bear round to the left where the path bends

back under the Tramway. Cross a road and bear right and cross another road (North

Way), and then a third road (Longbridge Way), and keep ahead on path with a road

immediately on the right.

Follow the path to the next signpost which enters woodland.

Follow this path parallel to A23. On reaching a bridge cross over and take left path,

ignore gate to the right.

Keep straight ahead on the path with the woodland/trees immediately to the right

and keeping the River Mole to the left.

After about 600m, as the path bends round to the left, take a right hand fork through

a gap and into the woods. (Should this turning be missed, carry on straight ahead,

passing under a road bridge to fork right to join a slightly higher level path near a

gate/interpretation board).

Follow the path through the trees to reach a stile and a road.

Cross the road and keep straight ahead, adjacent to a private road, and then on a

grass slope down to reach a gate with an interpretation board just beyond.

Go through the gate and keep straight ahead on the path, ignoring the first right

hand path going into the woods.

After about 500m go through a gap on the right into the woods and follow the path

through the trees.

Turn left at the next path junction and go half right on the path at the exit from the

woods.

The path turns right, go straight on to stile and a gate.

Go through the gate and at the next path junction, on a concrete drive, turn left

going through the stile/gate.

Go straight on and then take path going half right and shortly at the next path

junction turn right, then turn right again and then left onto a path running parallel

with the Horley Road.

When the path comes to Horley Road, cross road to go left to Framfield Cottages.

Ignore the track bending off to the right and keep straight on for 1000 yards, ignoring

a path forking back on the right after 700 yards.

At track crossing turn left and go through metal gate. Continue along rough track,

passing Chapel on right, for about 300 yards then ignore right turn to walk along

Chapel Road.

On reaching the main road turn right passing the recreation ground on left and the

minor road signed to Ifield.

Fork left passing the ‘Half Moon’ PH on left and go through main Charlwood church

entrance.

Go through churchyard leaving church to the right.
