    BEST OFFICE:ARIANA SMETANA

    When luxury travel specialist Daria

    Westerfield took ownership of

    Houstons West University Travel

recently, she wanted to give the

    space a modern makeover. So

    Westerfield enlistedAriana

    Smetanaof artVIA to revamp the

    interior. The Houston designer, who

has been lauded for her commercial

    and residential work, knew just

what to do. Working closely with

    Westerfield, Smetana ditched the

    dated floral carpet, incorporated

grand wall murals of landmarklocations, and added bursts of bold

    color, turning the once-drab travel

agency into a destination all its own.

/ Best RestaurantInterior: Juniper /Junipers design team delivers a levelof dining excitement that hastransformed the former east side

bottling company warehouse into astylish showstopper. It starts at theentry, with the curved poplar wall

designed by architect Chris Sandersthats painted with Mark Cravottas

special glossy Juniper blue. Comfortis critical in this restaurant, saysCravotta, whose blue velvet banquettes

and the leek-green velvet chairs standup to the restaurants real test. Chef

Nicholas Yanes wants patrons to enjoytheir dining experience and not rushaway, says the designer. I designed

the chairs to be as comfortable afterthree hours as they were the moment

a diner sits down. Wire-brushed darkBelgian oak floors, dark walnutpaneling and handmade paper

lighting invigorate the contemporaryNorthern Italian restaurant with tastysensuality. Sanders streamlined

renovation opens the interiors to theoutside with walls of glass and

establishes covered and open porchesthat also tempt guests to linger.2400E. Caesar Chavez St., Ste. 304, Austin,
