WELCOME
Dear Craft Fair Friend
The fair has always had a strong and loyal following of craft loving enthusiasts and this year we welcome Shelley Craft as official ambassador and enthusiastic crafter into the fold. She will be at the fair on Thursday morning so make sure you stop by and say hello. There’s plenty to see and do – all designed to spark your creativity – with a range of workshops and classes covering beading, quilting, mixed media, jewellery and so much more.
Guest mosaic artist Meredith Scott will display her truly stunning and sometimes quirky mosaic art and jewellery. See just how inspiring this medium can be in one of her daily classes.
This year’s AQC Challenge finalist quilts are definitely worth a look. The theme ‘Ten’ certainly brought some interesting interpretations!
A fashion parade with a twist is sure to pique your interest. Daily presentations by Miss Chrissy will entertain and inform you with tips and timeless advice on transforming an outfit using your craft and sewing skills.
Where will you find inspiration, ideas, original designs, and a great range of products for your next creative project?
The Melbourne Craft & Quilt Fair of course! So take a break and immerse yourself in these 64 pages of craft activities, displays, make & takes and more. See you at the fair.
Experience a day at the fair...“I am so excited to be joining the Craft & Quilt Fair team in 2014! Craft is a great way to make unique things for your home and family. It’s a wonderful way to express yourself. Make sure you join me at the Craft & Quilt Fairs. Some things you just make time for!”

THE SENTINELLESA DISPLAY BY DIJANNE CEVAALThe Sentinelles was made for exhibition by Dijanne Cevaal and originally consisted of only the large pieces in this display. She then hand printed smaller panels that could be bought by others to create embroidered pieces, and each purchaser of these hand printed panels could embroider or embellish the pieces in their own way. This has resulted in contributions by stitchers throughout France and Australia.
Each piece explores aspects of the earth and each sentinel deals with aspects of the environment.
The display has recently returned from a successful exhibition in France, and can be seen at the fair. Dijanne will be at the fair and available to talk about these facinating pieces and answer your questions.

LOANI IS BACK WITH A NEW BOOK!It turns out everyone loves a tea cosy. It makes a perfect gift, no one has to wear it and it reminds us of our grandmothers. PLUS it’s very Australian.
Loani Prior has even more fun and creative tea cosies in her new book Pretty Funny Tea Cosies & other beautiful knitted things because “ideas come from everywhere, like Lady Gaga, Art Deco lamps, tribal masks, a coral reef, even Melbourne Cup Day”, she says. The ‘other things’ in the book include knitted trinkets and embellishments.
“I reckon a designer needs two qualities above all else, and that is the gall to think you can do anything, and a strong inner critic to recognise when you aren’t quite there yet.”
See Loani’s latest knitted objets d’art on display at the fair, where she will also be signing copies of her new book. You’ll find her near Can Do Books, Stand E01.

SPECIAL DISPLAYS5000 POPPIES: A TRIBUTE OF RESPECT AND REMEMBRANCEThe poppy has become a symbol of both great loss in war as well as a sign of support and hope for those left behind.
The 5000 Poppies project is a crafting community tribute by Melbourne duo Lynn Berry and Margaret Knight. It is in honour of Australian servicemen and women and their families for their service and sacrifice in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations over the last 100 years.
The original target was to gather 5000 poppies to create a field of poppies in Federation Square in Melbourne on Anzac Day 2015 for the Anzac Centenary Commemoration. This number is now 25,000 and anyone can contribute. Poppies can be crocheted, knitted, felted or sewn from any materials. Any shade of red can be used and poppies should be no more than 15cm in diameter. There is no limit to the amount of poppies that can be submitted by anyone and there is no entry fee, just provide your own materials.
Patterns are available on the blog: 5000poppies.wordpress.com
See some of the poppies on display, deliver your crafted poppies or visit the display with your materials and make one with the team at the fair!
THE HUMAN KNITTING MACHINEThe Machine Knitters Association of Victoria is bringing a variety of machines, some serious, some quite frivolous to the Melbourne Craft & Quit Fair, for you to try. Twice daily there will be a chance for you to be part of a ‘Human Knitting Machine’ just for fun, or to see the mechanical principles that the machine uses to turn yarn into fabric. Enjoy some free hands-on experiences of different examples of this craft.
