Pray for the
world!
Thanks to Marcella Lee
Dear members,
Prayer is our strength.
Prayer is our tool.
Prayer is our answer.
Jesus told us how important prayer is
when He shared with us how to pray to His Father
in the Lord’s Prayer.
Mary gave us a beautiful prayer in her YES to God
when the Archangel Gabriel brought God’s message.
The Holy Spirit guides us to pray and converse with
God at the very deepest level of our being.
It is with this strength, this tool, that we find the answer.
God is our answer. To any question we have.
To all the questions we have. To every doubt or conflict
or uncertainty. God is LOVE.
God is in us. God is with us. God is ours and we are His.
In Unity and Charity,
your regent, Sheila

We would love to have you as a member of this

From Our Court Chaplain: Father Chuck Kottas
One of the most exciting times of the year is the beginning
of school. It is always exciting to see the children return to
school. They are so filled with life and goodness and so
enthusiastic about the new school year.
This time of year is also a time when we begin our religious
education and confirmation classes. There is no greater
ministry in our church than sharing our Catholic faith and
sharing the great treasurers of our church that have become
a part of our Church in the 2,000 year history of our church.
There is one group of people in all the churches that have
a tremendous role in the lives of our children and that is
the teachers or catechists as they are so often called. The
most impressive aspect of this is that all of the teachers are
volunteers. They offer this ministry to our children because
of their great commitment to their faith and to the Catholic
Church. Several Sundays ago I preached a homily about
humility. Humility has two aspects to it: First, true humility
is our acknowledging that all we are and all that we have
is a gift from God. Second, true humility is when we reach
out and do something in Jesus’ name for others. It is the
feeling that we receive when we know that our efforts have
brought the presence of Jesus Christ to someone. It is this
humility that all of the religious education teachers bring to
our children.
So this is a wonderful time to pray a special prayer for all the
teachers who will be bringing the presence of Jesus to our
children and sharing with them the treasurers of the Catholic
faith with them. I hope all of our religious education teachers
are rewarded for their great efforts in sharing the good news
of Jesus Christ love to our children.

State Workshops
The state board has put together
the fall 2013 workshops for all
Iowa CDA members to attend.
They schedule a workshop in
each of the 4 dioceses so that no
member has to travel very far to
attend.
Topics at this fall’s workshops
are key to running our courts
and keeping our records in tact:
Standing rules
Financial reviews
Budgets and finance
State Retreat
The annual CDA retreat wil be
held at the American Martyrs
Retreat House in Cedar Falls
October 11-13. It begins with
Mass at 8:00pm on Friday
evening and closes with lunch
on Sunday. The suggested cost
of $120 per person includes two
nights in a private room as well
as five delicious meals.
Fall Food Event
Local courts are asked to have a fund raiser such as
a soup supper, bake sale, or something that works
well in their area to raise funds for this state project.
One half of the proceeds are sent to the state court
for disbursement to the diocese that the court is
located in. The other half is to be distribute for use
in our local community.
Deadline for this event is December 31 for the
money to be sent to state.
Our court participates in this event each fall and
supports a local food pantry.
From State Chaplain, Msgr. Carl Schmitt:
Pope Francis reminds us: “Being Christian is not just obeying orders
but means being in Christ, thinking like him, acting like him, loving
like him; it means letting him take possession of our life & change it,
transform it, and free it from the darkness of evil and sin.”
National Catholic Daughters
National Convention: July 2014 Billings, Montana
Your Iowa state officers are looking into organizing buses to take us to the National
Convention! This will greatly reduce the cost of attendance. Courts are encouraged
to get as many members to the convention and to raise money within our courts to
help cover the costs. Looking forward to a fun event!
Tips for Emerging Leaders in CDA
From National Leadership Chair, Helene Shepherd focus, learn from others, keep
things simple, be reliable, respect others, work hard, communicate with clarity, build
teams, recruit the best people, and accept mistakes.
National CDA Audit
The independent auditors’ report from June 2013 shows: “the financial statements
present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the Organization.”
