Course Selection for Grade 11 Students
Timelines for Course Selection• Distribution of materials: December 2019
• Individual guidance appointments: Dec 2019 - Jan 2020
• LOCK IN BEGINS: WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2020• DUE DATE: MONDAY FEBRUARY 24, 2020
• Students are not allowed to be part-time (must take at least 3 courses in a semester)
• Choose at least 6 courses next year + 2 alternatives (may want to pick 8+2; it’s easier to drop a course than pick up one)
• No spares unless 24 credits achieved
• Be aware that many Grade 12 courses have prerequisites. Use to plan ahead
Grade 12 Course Selection
34 Credit Threshold• Most students will complete 30 credits in 4 years• If needed, students may earn up to 34 credits within 5 years• After secondary school, going beyond the 34 credit threshold
is possible with e-learning, night school, summer school, adult day school, etc.
• Repeated courses count twice towards the threshold• 34 credit threshold does not apply…
• if you have an Individual Education Plan (IEP)• to English as a Second Language (ESL) language courses• in the first four years of secondary school

Co-operative Education• Allows interested students the opportunity to earn credits

Community Involvement
• Reinforcement – 2 weeks - for students who were unsuccessful, and are approved by the credit recovery team
• Acceleration – 4 weeks - for students who have never taken the course before, or who were unsuccessful but did not meet the criteria for credit recovery
• Sign up starting in April

• If you would like to make changes to your Semester 2 or want help in choosing next year’s courses, you SHOULD schedule an appointment in December or January
