Read the bibliographical description of the manuscript. 2. Carefully compare the images of the manuscript with the proposed transliteration. Get accustomed with peculiarities of this hand. 3. Transcribe in the same way a considerable portion of that part of the manuscript which has not been transliterated. Start where the given transliteration ends. See how far you come. 4. Note remarkable or unusual ligatures and make a list of these. 5. Make an inventory of all signs and peculiarities which are different from modern practice. W. 63 Arabic, Turkish paper with watermarks (crescent with face on shield = Abū Shubbāk; Arabic text as counter- mark: اﺻﻴﻠﻰ ﻋﺎل اﺻﻄﻤﺒﻮﻟﻰ ﺷﺒ اﺑﻮﺑﻴﺎض), 168 + 4 ff., 35 x 22.5 cm, vocalized naskh script, 19 lines to the page (misara), black ink with rubrics, dated end Muarram 1337 (1917, colophon on f. 168a), full-leather Islamic binding with flap, without ornamentation. Mukhtaar Tanbīh al-Anām fī ʿUlūw Maqām Sayyidinā wa-Nabiyyinā Muammad ʿalayhi Afal al-alāt wal-Salām (title on f. 1a), a taliya-type prayer book by ʿAbd al-Ǧalīl b. Muammad b. Amad b. ʿAẓẓūm al-Murādī al-Qayrawānī (d. 971/1563), GAL S II, 691. On f. 1a (title-page) is also a waqf-note by Amad Salaf b. Afrānī of Simnī pedigree, living in Abaghrār (?). The bifolium has 40 lines of text and gives the introductory part (but without the actual beginning with a basmala) of the Tanbīh al-Anām, in which is also mentioned its alternative title Shifā al-Asqām wa-Maw al-Āthām fil-alāt ʿalā Khayr al-Anām. On the other side of the folio is what seems the title-page, but the text is incomplete, as the upper part of the paper is torn off. The bifolium consists of three blank pages, and the fourth page contains the beginning (with basmala) of what seems to be the same text.
