An authentic ‘Aussie’ experience Adelaide’s location offers you the chance to enjoy an authentic Australian experience. Relax on beautiful metropolitan beaches only minutes from the city centre. Spend a day exploring the rolling hills that frame the city’s eastern edge, or spend a weekend discovering our world-famous wine regions, touring the rugged Flinders Ranges or spotting Aussie wildlife on the spectacular Kangaroo Island.

Getting around Adelaide is very easy to explore. You’ll quickly discover that the city is well serviced by public transport, and as an international student, you’ll receive the same transport concessions as local students, saving you up to $700 per year on transport costs. Free tram and bus services run in the Adelaide city centre.

Buses run frequently to and from Flinders University and the adjacent Flinders Medical Centre, with various routes running directly from the city and suburbs. A new train extension will soon link Flinders Bedford Park, Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders Tonsley campus directly to the city, making it even easier to get around.

Adelaide is also cycling-friendly, with a large community of cyclists and dedicated bike lanes.

FoodIf you love great food, you’ll love Adelaide. The city is full of stunning cafés and restaurants. South Australia is well known for producing high-quality produce, from fresh fruit and vegetables through to the finest meat and seafood. With more than 150 staff, 2,000 students – and a 2,000 square metre pod for heavy engineering equipment – Tonsley centrally locates the University’s teaching and research in computer science, engineering and mathematics.

The New Venture Institute (NVI), based at Tonsley, links businesses, government and the community sector to all that the University has to offer.

Through their programs and activities, NVI inspires, educates and connects students like you: the future generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.

Flinders at Tonsley has strong connections to industry. The centre is also home to local and international businesses, including industrial manufacturing company Siemens.

Flinders Partners, the Medical Device Research Institute, and Flinders Centre for Nanoscale Science and Technology are also located at Tonsley.

Tonsley is located centrally between Flinders Bedford Park campus and Adelaide city. Tonsley is a five-minute car ride, a 15-minute ride on the Flinders loop bus, or a 30-minute walk from the Bedford Park campus.

From late 2019, an $85 million extension of the Tonsley rail line will link Flinders’ Bedford Park and Tonsley campuses by rail, and allow Flinders’ students to access the CBD by train in less than 20 minutes.

In the heart of the Adelaide CBD, Flinders Victoria Square is within walking distance of restaurants, cafés and public transport.

With modern student lounges, study spaces and high speed WiFi, Flinders’ Victoria Square campus is an accessible, alternative and flexible space for students and staff. Recommendations from Dr van Duivenvoorde through the University have allowed me to undertake internship in Sri Lanka and currently at the Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington DC. A LevelsResults are calculated on the aggregate score from 3 A (H2) Level subjects (or 2 A (H2) Level subjects and 2 AS (H1) Level subjects) where A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 for A Level subjects, and A=2.5, B=2.0, C=1.5, D=1.0, E=0.5 for AS Level subjects.

General Paper and local language subjects are excluded from the calculation.

IB International Baccalaureate students must achieve the Diploma with a minimum overall score of 24. Students must complete six subjects, one from each of six subject groups as well as three subjects at a higher level. The Diploma results are on a scale of 1 to 7 (with 7 being the highest). A minimum pass grade for SL subjects is 4, while HL subjects is 3.

ATARThe Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is the primary means used to assess and compare the results of Australian school-leaving applicants for entry to the University. An ATAR is a number ranging between 99.95 and zero that reports a student’s rank position relative to all other students.

Indian Central and State Board Indian Senior Secondary Schooling results are calculated using the best three subjects, excluding local language, English and non-academic subjects.

HKDSEHong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education results are calculated using three core subjects and two elective subjects. The core topics are English language, mathematics compulsory only and liberal studies.

Kenya KCSESuccessful completion of the Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education with overall mean grade as specified on transcript/result.

WAECSuccessful completion of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate (WASSC) with a total of the best six subjects. Scoring is on a 1 to 9 scale (1 being a high pass and 9 the lowest).

Vietnam Upper SecondaryApplicants must have undertaken the Secondary School Learning Examination (Thi Tot Nghiep Pho thong Turng hoc) and have been awarded the Upper Secondary Education Graduation Diploma (Bang Tot nghiep Trung hoc Pho thong) with an overall average grade.

IndonesiaIndonesian Secondary School Certificate of Graduation (SKHUN/STK) or Secondary School

Certificate of Completion (Ijazah, previously STTB). A pass is an average of 6.0 out of 10 with at least 4.26 in each subject (previously 3.0). Grades from the student’s final year of study are shown separately on their school report.

It is important that students read and understand these policies and procedures prior to accepting their offer at Flinders University. Specific information for international students includes:

• the University’s commitment to working within the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act and National Code (2018) in the Conditions of Enrolment

• English language proficiency requirements

• admissions policies and procedures for international coursework, higher degree by research, study abroad and exchange students including basis of admission and assessment of qualifications

• tuition fees, the payment of tuition fees and refund policies

• enrolment procedures, including duration of study, deferrals, suspension and cancellation.

GAOKAO entry requirementsThe table across sets out the 2018/2019 Gaokao scores required for entry to most of the undergraduate courses at Flinders University. On meeting the required Gaokao score, students should also satisfy any course prerequisites and must meet the English language requirements of each individual course.

Gaokao applications will go through Flinders’ standard application process including the provision of the following documents:

• Certified evidence of the official Gaokao result issued by Academy of Education Recruitment and Examination in both Chinese and English translation identifying the stream students have taken in the examination.

• Certified Senior Middle School graduation certificate and transcript in both Chinese and English.

Note 1: Any program or combined degree with an ATAR of 85 or higher.

Note 2: Clinical Sciences/Medicine, Midwifery, Nutrition and Dietetics are excluded from Gaokao entry.

Note 3: Humanities stream does not meet the Mathematics prerequisites that some programs require.

Note 4: Flinders University reserves the right to make changes to the Gaokao entry without prior notice.

Malaysia STPMSTPM calculation A or A-=5pts; B+=4; B=3; B- or C+=2; C=1. Add the points scored for best of three courses attempted at one examination, excluding General Paper.

Malaysia UECUEC scores are obtained by calculating the best five subjects as follows: A1=1, A2=2, B3=3, B4=4, B5=5, B6=6, C7=7, C8=8. Language studies and the topic General Paper are excluded in the calculation.

English language entry requirementsFor applicants whose first language is not English you will need to have:

• achieved the required test score for your course as listed in the course index at the back of this publication. Test results must be no more than two years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course; or

• successfully completed an approved secondary or tertiary qualification, taught in the English language in a country where Flinders recognises English as the official language or the main language spoken (for up to an overall IELTS of 6.5 band scores) with evidence no more than five years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course; or

• successfully completed a pre-course English program from an approved ELICOS provider (evidence of completion must be no more than two years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course).

Flinders International Study Centre Flinders International Study Centre (ISC) provides academic English, foundation and diploma programs for students who do not meet the academic or English language requirements to Flinders and wish to qualify for, and enrol directly in, our undergraduate courses.

Courses at Flinders ISC are designed to develop your academic understanding, study skills and English language level so that you have a good knowledge of your chosen subject when you start your degree.

Foundation ProgramThe Foundation Program is a comprehensive academic program that supports and prepares students for university-level learning. The successful completion of the Foundation Program allows students to progress to Flinders International Study Centre diplomas or to first-year undergraduate degree programs at Flinders University upon meeting the entry criteria.

Your applicationSubmit your application, making sure you include all the required documents as attachments. Once your application is received by the International Centre, you will be sent an acknowledgement of your application being received and we will advise you if any further information or documentation is required.

Your offer of admission Your offer of admission is usually sent to you by email. If you do not have an email address we will post the offer letter directly to you or email your agent. We will endeavour to send your offer letter within 10-14 working days; however, there may be delays where you have applied for a course with strict quotas or additional entry requirements, or where credit/exemption is sought for previous study.

Included in the offer of admission is a weblink to ‘Your Offer Letter Explained’. At this stage you will be required to accept the offer by completing the acceptance form and any associated declarations. You will also be required to pay the relevant tuition fees for the first semester and visa-length Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) as detailed in your offer of admission.

Confirmation of enrolmentWe will issue the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) upon receipt of the signed acceptance, review of the declaration(s), and payment of fees and OSHC. With the CoE you can apply for your student visa. Please check your visa requirements at: homeaffairs.gov.au

When to applyApplications can be made at any time during the year to available course intakes. Admission to some programs is very competitive as places are limited. Some courses have specific application deadlines. Please refer to the relevant course pages or contact the International Centre for more information.

Note: International students cannot undertake external courses while in Australia on a student visa.

Check eligibility for creditIf you have previous educational qualifications you may be entitled to receive advanced standing towards your Flinders University degree. Check our ‘Search for Credit’ website to see if you are eligible: flinders.edu.au/study/apply/ credit-transfer

If your previous qualification is not listed on the website you can still apply for credit. Applicants seeking credit should include academic transcripts and curriculum details.
