A Message from the President

FOUNTAIN HEAD COUNTRY CLUB

I wanted to wait to write this article after the opening weekend of the summer season. Except for a bit of rain on Saturday and a power failure that caused the Club to close on Sunday, the weekend was quite successful. We had a number of members endure the rain to play in the Member-Member and Monday was great with tennis, golf, the pool being open and active and close to 100 of us at the picnic. I was especially pleased with the new pool staff that is acclimating themselves to us and we to them. Don’t forget that if you wish to have swim lessons for yourself or a family member, the staff is willing to teach as well. Just ask. By the way, the pool hours will be from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM every day of the week. Even though the rest of the club (except for golf) is closed on Monday, the pool and snack bar are open.

A modification has been made to the pool access since my article last month. Rather than sending the membership cards to each family, they will be retained at the pool. As you enter, you will just need to give your name and the card will be moved to the inbox so we can keep track of who is at the pool. It would also be a help if you would tell the staff when you leave so that we can use the box as an ongoing census during the day. Thanks for your patience as we work through this transition.

I hope that as many of us as possible can attend the annual meeting on June 20, 2017 at 5:30 PM. It is the only time of the year that we can all come together to discuss the Club and how we are doing. Even if you plan to attend, it would be helpful if you send your proxy so that we are certain that we will have a quorum for the meeting. Following the meeting, the Board will retire to meet and elect the officers for next year.

It is not too late to start thinking about the Member-Guest tournament on July 20–23, 2017. It promises to be a great weekend celebrating Ireland. Thanks to Duane Grove and the

rest of the committee for working on this important event. So far, the response is way ahead of previous years. Don’t wait until the last minute as you may find yourself closed out.

Our tennis program is also off to a great start. Please talk to Matt Taylor or his team if you have an interest in playing. There are many offerings for everyone, irrespective of your skill level. It is also a great way to meet other members of the Club.

As always, we have a number of other events going on this month, please check the calendar for up to date details. The Club is here for our enjoyment. All that we need to do is take advantage of it.

On behalf of the Board, I wish all of our fathers a Happy Father’s Day. I hope the next year is filled with great joy and happiness.

Finally, this is my last article for the newsletter as my term as President of the Board is coming to an end. I don’t know where the last 28 months have gone, but this has truly been a wonderful personal experience for me. I thank all of you for the support and encouragement that you have given to me during this time. I am especially thankful for everyone who has served on the Board with me and allowing me to lead the Club. We have an excellent Board and are lucky to have them guiding our Club. I still have 1 year left of Board service and I look forward to helping where I can over the next year.

Summer is finally here!! I would like to remind all members what qualifies a child as a “Minor” or dependent.

“Minor Children” or “minor children” means sons or daughters (i) under age 21 or (ii) ages 21 through 26 who are (1) bona fide fulltime students at a school, college or graduate school, or (2) active members of the armed services. A son or daughter that is 27 or that is no longer a full-time student or an active member of the armed services must cease utilizing the Club through a “Family” membership as of January 1 of the year after which the person turned 27 or ceased to be a full-time student or active member of the armed services.

If your child/children no longer qualify as a “Minor”, we have a new Gans Membership that can be taken advantage of! Check out the flyer for additional information!

Christine Divelbiss

From the Membership Director

Important Pool Rules to Remember: Members: An individual registration

card which identifies each ‘Golf’ and ‘Sports’ member (including spouses and dependents) will be kept on file at the pool. When a member checks-in to use the swimming facility, the mem-ber’s card will be transferred from the OUT file to the IN file, signifying the person is using the facility. The pro-cedure is reversed when the member leaves the facility.

Guests and ‘Social’ Members: Limited to 6 visits per year with the prevailing guest fee—$4 weekday, $6 weekend. A guest slip will need to be completed upon check-in for the business office.

The prevailing guest fee is charged for guests age 6 and older. Children age 5 and under are complimentary. After 5 pm the guest fee will be waived when a member accompanies one guest, i.e. a one to one ratio.

The pool guest fee is waived for mem-bers whose grandchildren are guests (age 18 years and younger) to the pool.

The member must accompany the non-member grandchild and remain at the pool.

Children under ten (10) years of age must be accompanied by a parent or qualified individual approved as a baby sitter (13 years old or older) and that person is responsible for the supervi-sion and safety of the child while at the pool.

To be allowed to swim freely in the main pool, a child must demonstrate his/her ability to swim the width of the pool without stopping and without the aid of a bubble or water wings.

All food and drink shall be purchased at the snack bar or in the tap room (take-out)

Children swimming in the baby pool shall be the responsibility of a parent or qualified attendant—the adult be inside the baby pool area with the child at all times

Have fun!!

CORNER SENIOR

The MISGA season is well underway. Several of Fountain Head members participated in Away mixers at Holly Hills Country Club, Glade Valley Golf Club, Manor Country Club, and Timbers at Troy Golf Club in Elkridge, MD.

At Holly Hills CC, Ed Masood was the only FHCC representative and finished in the second place group. At Glade Valley we had a contingency of five players – George Reid, Larry Allen, Curtis Wilson, Russ Marks, and Ed Masood. While none of our members finished in any of the top four place teams, two of our players won in the 50-50 raffle.

Ed Masood traveled to Manor CC in Rockville, only to enjoy morning refreshments and story-telling since there was about 2+ inches of rain that canceled the mixer.

On Tuesday, May 16, Ed

represented FHCC at Timbers of Troy Golf Club and finished in second place group.

We also hosted our first home mixer on

Thursday, May 18 with players from Beaver Creek

Country Club, Glade Valley Golf Club, and Norbeck

Country Club. I am extremely pleased

to announce that Fountain Head had eleven

(11) players participate in this

event. This was the largest number that we have had in

the past three years and I greatly appreciate the fact that so many of our members chose to play in this event and enjoy the

beautiful weather, the superbly conditioned golf course, and the camaraderie of fellow MISGA players. At this mixer Gary Wright finished in the third place group, Curtis Wilson finished in the second place group, and Larry Allen finished in the first place group. The winning score of two best balls net was 124. Congratulations to the place finishers and winners way to go!

The next events include the following mixers:

May 24 @ Rattlewood GCJune 1 @ HOMEJune 6 @ Beaver CreekJune 13 @ Musket RidgeJune 29 @ HOMEJuly 6 @ HOME

There also is a Division II Special Event on Thursday, June 22 which is the Two-Player Team qualifier for the State Championship. The qualifier will be held at Westminster National Golf Club in Westminster, MD. Teams that qualify for the state championships will compete at Wild Quail Country Club in Camden-Wyoming, DE on Thursday, August 3. Check out the details for this qualifier at MISGA.org then click on Tournament Information. Players who want to participate in this event can get an entry form from the folder in the Pro Shop. This form must be completed and the check in the amount of $42.00 per player or $84.00 per team–must be made payable to FHCC Div II TPT. The entry form and check must be completed by not later than June 3.

Division II will qualify 10 two-player teams for the state championship. Teams that qualify must pay the state entry fee immediately upon conclusion of the qualifier event. The state tournament fee is $105.00 per player or $210.00 per team.

For questions or additional information about items in this article please contact Ed Masood at 301.221.7821 or at [email protected].

❝This is

a game of

misses. The

one who

misses the

best is going

to win.❞

–Ben Hogan

There is only one true way to get better at this game and that is practice…yes practice. This is a word that is used vary vaguely to most people who play this game. We all have been to the driving range and call what we are doing “practicing” but if we are honest, most of us are just down there hitting ball after ball not being aware of what we are doing with one’s swing or set up. This type of practice will benefit someone who is new to the game and just learning to make contact with the ball but for the rest of us, you are only ingraining your bad habits into your

muscle memory. I challenge everyone the next time they go to the driving range to take the time to focus and work on something with either their swing or setup on every shot. Doing this every time you go to the range will help you in the long run. If you don’t know what you need to work on come into the Professional Shop and schedule a lesson with Jim, Bob, or myself and we will get you on the track to playing better golf!
