The Liturgy of the Day
Over several Sundays of the past
month, we have heard scriptures
that encourage us to serve others
and give completely of ourselves
to follow Christ. This Sunday
Jesus encounters a concrete
example of such selfless giving in
the widow at the temple. As we
move through our celebration
today from Word to Sacrament to
action in the coming week, perhaps
we can learn something from the
widow who “contributed all she
had.”

HOMILIA DE HOY
Proyecto de Homilía
• La lectura de hoy del Antiguo Testamento describe a
una viuda y al profeta Elías; el Evangelio de hoy a
una viuda y a Jesús, la profecía cumplida. Ambas
lecturas ejemplifican la confianza llena de fe en la
providencia de Dios, que conduce a un amor
entregado por los demás y que nos inspira a examinar
nuestro propio amor a Dios y al prójimo. La pobre
viuda de Sarepta arriesga su propia supervivencia al
ofrecerle al profeta extranjero Elías, enemigo
declarado de su dios y su rey, una hospitalidad que
ella no puede permitirse. El riesgo de Elías es confiar
en la promesa de Dios de que una persona
menesterosa en un reino hostil pueda proveerle lo que
él necesita.
• Cronológicamente hablando el episodio en el
Evangelio de hoy ocurre inmediatamente antes de la
pasión de Jesús, lo cual hace de la dadivosidad sin
reservas de la viuda, que da “todo lo que tenía para
vivir”, una prefigura vívida de la entrega inminente de
Jesús (Marcos 12:44). Litúrgicamente hablando, el
mes de noviembre nos recuerda la gloriosa segunda
venida de Jesús para el juicio final. Tal como lo
declara la carta a los hebreos, “está determinado que
los hombres mueran una sola vez y que después de la
muerte venga el juicio” (9:27). Las tres lecturas, por
lo tanto, declaran el desafío de Jesús a todas las
generaciones: Por muy hostil que sea el ambiente o
raras las probabilidades, una fe impávida y una
esperanza constante inspira a las personas con fe a
practicar una caridad incondicional que da en secreto
más allá de lo que pueden permitirse, o sea su todo,
para la gloria de Dios y en servicio a los demás.
• La carta a los hebreos también describe a Jesús en el
santuario del cielo intercediendo por nosotros. Por
tanto, además del desafío escatológico, una confianza
sagrada resuena a través de la fiesta del reinado de
Cristo, hace un eco a través del Adviento y repercute
en nuestra vida y en nuestra muerte: “Cristo se ofreció
una sola vez para quitar los pecados de todos. Al final
se manifestará por segunda vez, pero ya no para quitar
el pecado, sino para la salvación de aquellos que lo
aguardan y en él tienen puesta su esperanza” (Hebreos
9:28).
Pregunta de la Semana
En estos tiempos de una economía adversa, cuando la
virtud de la prudencia demanda una responsabilidad
cuidadosa de nuestros limitados recursos, ¿qué
significará para mí esta semana y durante todas las
festividades el dar “todo lo que tengo”?

Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Dedication of the New Church
On Sunday, November 1st our 20th
Anniversary Celebration began with
the 11:00 a.m. Mass.
Thank you Bishop Robert E.
Guglielmone for joining us as the main
celebrant and for the wonderful homily.
We also thank Dr. Charles Renick,
Director of Music, Musicians, and
Choir who added wonderful Music for
the celebration. Also, a huge “thank
you” to the Pastoral Council and all of
the many volunteers who assisted in
making this a memorable event.
Following Mass all were invited to a
BBQ luncheon with face painting,
balloon art, children’s games and bingo.
The rain did not deter us from joining in
this fun-filled event as is evident by
the following pictures.

There will be a CGA meeting on Wednesday, November 11
VETERAN'S DAY at 11:00 a.m. in the Church Hall. After Mass
and meeting, there will be a presentation by Commander Darlene
Walton of American Legion Post 130, Cayce. She will give an
overview of the American Legion and its history. The American
Legion, founded by Theodore Roosevelt will celebrate its 100 year
anniversary this year. After our presentation, members will attend
the 12:15 p.m. Mass and then participate in a potluck luncheon
and social. Jim Koltuniak, a Corpus Christi parishioner, will
provide entertainment during our luncheon. Please join us. This
meeting is open to all Veterans in our parish.
