Corporate Overview

Informex Concreting (Pvt) Ltd is the pioneer and leader of the readymix concrete industry in Sri

Lanka. It commenced operations with the supply of readymix concrete to the World Trade

Centre in Colombo where it delivered a mega 55,000m³ of concrete under stringent quality and

demanding performance standards. Since then the company has provided concreting solutions to

many large and small scale projects adapting to the needs of the project and working with a

variety of local and foreign contractors. Notable among these have been the World Trade Center

in Colombo, Crescat and Monarch Residencies, Havelock City, Sapugaskande and Kelanitissa

Power Stations, the Central Bank Extension Project, Shangri-la Phaze 1, II and III Colombo and

Shangri-la Hambantota, Astoria Residential Project Colombo 3, ITC Hotel Project and the Lotus

Tower. The latter involved the largest concrete pour in Sri Lanka’s construction history and

Informex’s design mix for Grade 40 mixes was adopted for the entire project.

Informex Concreting (Pvt) Ltd handles in excess of 100,000 cubic meters of concrete annually.

With over 20 years of experience in providing quality concreting solutions to large, medium, and

small scale enterprises, The Company’s competitive advantage is embodied in its efficient cost

structure and 24x7 support. Its expertise is in providing and developing workable concreting

solutions and “best-of-breed” readymix design mixes for both mega scale projects and small

scale construction. These include commercial buildings, residential buildings, bridges and

highways. In response to project requirements Informex also provides mobile batching plant

services.

The company’s readymix concrete batching plants are located in Colombo 10, Galle,

Hambantota and Horana, its pre-mix asphalt plant is at Horana and its cement mortar plant is

located in Chilaw. The strategically located processing plants enable us to reduce delivery times

and respond speedily to changes in clients’ schedules.

Informex Concreting (Pvt) Limited is the leader in quality assurance in Sri Lanka’s readymix

concrete industry and was the founder Chairman of the Lanka Readymix Concrete Association

of Sri Lanka with the intention of improving and maintaining quality standards in the readymix

industry. Informex has a carefully controlled process in which quality assurance at all stages of

production is of paramount importance.

Company Background

Mr. Doric Atton is the Managing Director and driving force behind Informex Concreting (Pvt)

Ltd. Mr. Atton has over 30 years hands-on experience in the concreting industry and has been

involved in the supply of readymix to most of the mega landscape changing construction projects

in the city of Colombo.

Informex Concreting (Pvt) Ltd started as a subsidiary of Informex Construction (Pvt) Ltd in

which Mr. Atton was an investor and a founder Managing Director. In 1979 Mr. Atton set up

Colcrete Lanka Pvt Ltd a collaborative venture between Informex Construction and Colcrete Pte

Ltd of Singapore and successfully managed the supply of readymix concrete to the Bank of

Ceylon building. Under Mr. Atton’s guidance the superior technical capacity of Informex

Concrete was built with the transfer of technical expertise from Singapore. In the early 1990’s

Mr. Atton bought over the balance shares in Informex Concreting (Pvt) Ltd in exchange for his

shareholding in Informex Construction. This was a time when readymix concrete was still new in

the construction industry in Sri Lanka and much pioneering work had to be done in developing

high performance concrete design mixes. In the last more than 20 years the company has built up

its reputation as the preferred supplier of readymix concrete. The company has interactions with

the University of Moratuwa to upgrade its technical expertise and share its hands-on experience.

Over the last several years it has expanded its plant capacity by investing in new technology and

new processing sites to meet growing demand. Today the company has 4 readymix concrete

plants and a team of dedicated concrete technology professionals that can provide round-the-

clock readymix supply to several projects simultaneously.

Organizational Structure

The organization structure of the company evolved over the years as a functional organization to

market and deliver readymix concrete products to projects in multiple geographies across Sri

Lanka. Informex’s success lies in its dedicated team of experienced professionals who work as a

team to ensure the clients’ time and quality objectives are paramount. Today Informex

Concreting (Pvt) Ltd has over 100 employees.

Operational Management and Product Portfolio

Informex Concreting (Pvt) Ltd gives the highest priority to managing delivery times and

coordination with contractors at the various project sites. Each project is independently

dispatched with each load monitored by the industry's best trained quality assurance personnel.

Both dispatch and quality assurance uses the most state-of-the-art equipment available in Sri

Lanka to ensure on-time delivery of the highest quality concrete.

Our mixer fleet currently consists of over 25 ready-mixed concrete mixer trucks with a capacity

of 8 cubic meters per truck and 4 concrete pump cars ranging from 22 meters to 37 meters. Our

mixer fleet is sealed after loading to ensure the quality of the product reaching the client

destination. In addition to on time delivery, we offer a robust and dynamic quality management

system. Our qualified technicians provide technical assistance for all our clients’ concrete needs

constantly developing new design mixes to suit the needs of specific projects.

Ready mixed concrete is produced from a mixture of cementitous materials, aggregates, water,

and admixtures. The following products are also available and can be customized and

proportioned to fit the clients’ specific needs and application:

Quality Systems

At Informex we are aware that our product, concrete, is one of the most unique and versatile

building materials in the world. Concrete has the flexibility to be moulded into virtually any

shape and achieve great strengths. Concrete is ideal for any building project such as homes,

schools, high-rise buildings, bridges, dams and highways. Concrete is perishable in its plastic

state and very sensitive from the time the raw materials are combined to the final product.

Mixing, transportation, placing, and curing can influence its plastic and hardened properties.

The quality control process at Informex has evolved from quality control to quality assurance.

The constant in-house monitoring of our concrete performance through a well developed

concrete sampling program has ensured the success of our product. The company has its own

quality testing laboratory to monitor the quality of the raw material and the performance of the

mix designs to assure that the concrete meets the project specifications. The quality control

procedures are extended to the calibration of batching plant, trucks and testing equipment. The

company is in the process of preparing for Sri Lanka Standards Certification.

Our Quality assurance staff consists of a

team of experienced concrete

technologists. Informex recognizes that

carefully selected raw materials are of

paramount importance. Our raw materials

are selected based on their performance.

We constantly monitor each ingredient of

the admixtures to ensure it meets

specifications. Mix designs are designed

and tested thoroughly to yield optimal

performance. Custom mix designs are

available to suit the requirements of

individual projects.

Technical Capacity

Informex Concreting (Pvt) Ltd has the capacity to produce 150,000m³ of readymix concrete per annum. The company operates four batching plants, 25 concrete mixer trucks & 4 concrete pump cars with the following capacity:

Solutions Informex Concreting (Pvt) Ltd has completed the supply of readymix concrete to over 100

World Trade Centre Twin Tower Project for Quantity supplied was 55,000 m³ of high

Turner Steiner East Asia Limited strength concrete, so that the form work could

be stripped within 24 hours. We achieved a

concrete strength between 24N to 28N in 24

hours.

columns. In this project we carried out two of

the largest single pours of concrete of
