Welcome to Coronado Playhouse and to the final show of our 2018 season, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This is one of the earliest collaborations between composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice and retells the Biblical story of Joseph, one of Jacob’s sons who is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. Despite adversity, Joseph rises up and becomes one of Egypt’s most successful and powerful men. This magical musical is full of unforgettable songs has a beautiful message of forgiveness, making this a perfect holiday ending to our 72nd season. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is one of the most successful and endearing musicals of all time. It has been performed in nearly 20,000 theatres and schools worldwide, involving over 700,000 performers of all ages, with an audience in excess of 9 million people, since its first performance in 1968.Coronado Playhouse was thrilled when the production team of Jason Bailly and Ricardo Valenzuela pitched this show to us. This is the first time this creative team has brought their behind-the-scenes talent to CPH, however,

their names are well-known in the theatrical community across San Diego and beyond, having performed and produced shows on nearly every stage in the county! We are pleased to welcome this dynamic duo to the CPH family.Keeping budgets tight, we rely on the kind donations of our patrons to produce shows of this calibre. Like all of our musicals, Joseph has live musicians and a tremendous team both onstage and off. It takes a lot of financial support to produce our shows. We are eternally grateful to our Members, Subscribers and other patrons who help fill the gap, as we continue to keep ticket pricing accessible. As we close another successful season, let us remind you that season and individual tickets are currently available for our 2019 season. We’d love to have you back as we celebrate our 73rd Season: Adventure | Journey | Discovery. We hope you enjoy our production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Go, go, go, Joseph! It was over half a century ago that a 17-year-old Andrew Lloyd Webber sat down with a 20-year-old Tim Rice, to begin work on a twenty-minute cantata of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It started so small and has become quite the phenomenon since, performed all over the world to millions of theatregoers. The 20-minute version of Joseph was updated after Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit: Jesus Christ Superstar, in 1974 to a more robust 75-minute variety. You may remember seeing it in its most modern form with Donny Osmond, who performed not only in the stage production, but also starred in the movie. This timeless musical still resonates today with audiences for its ability to showcase terrific talent and to remind us of the value of redemption and forgiveness. In this tumultuous time that we live in, let this show take you back to the days of Canaan, and offer you a deserved respite from our

national discourse. We believe that this production will offer you hope that forgiveness and understanding are still prevalent in all of us today….Enjoy!
