How hard can running be? Left, right, left, right – now do it quicker. That’s it, right? Wrong. Not only could any of us be taught to run more efficiently, but someone with Mike’s level of expertise can help top-level athletes to rehabilitate after injury.
Most people believe that running is something that we pick up naturally. But when the pain begins, and after injury we realise that we are actually walking and running inefficiently which can lead to more injuries. Movement and running re-education after injury or surgery is vital for rehabilitation. Most of us have never been taught how to run and after injury we need to regain correct movement. The Running School has developed a movement re-education methodology which helps individuals regain movement, walking and running efficiency after injury or surgery. If correctly coached and practiced, the skill will become more efficient and enjoyable and lead to improved speed.

DR NICK WISE DC
PROFESSOR FRANCIS SMITH
Nick took over his father’s practice in South Carolina in 2007. After experimenting with low-level laser light on points he discovered in a textbook on kinesiology, Dr Wise devised his unique system called Cranial Laser Reflex Technique (CLRT). This system has been expanded into the therapy that he now teaches throughout Europe and the US. He also lectures extensively at international Laser Conferences. He is particularly in demand for his creative and lively presentational style, whilst also demonstrating the range of his skills as a practitioner.
His grasp of quantum physics is profound, as is his ability to teach it to others. Not stopping at light, he now integrates sound frequency into his toolbox, having invented a simple and inexpensive way to deliver sound frequencies via a smart phone or laptop.
Professor Francis W. Smith M.D, FFRRCSI, FRCR, FRSC(Ed), FRCP(Ed), FFSEM (UK) is a Consultant Radiologist and also holds a personal chair in Health & Sports Science at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. As a radiologist, he has worked with MRI since 1980, pioneering its use in clinical practice, especially for the spine and major joints.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Because nobody has the time to meet everybody at the show – try as you might - read on to find out how you could generate hundreds of extra complimentary healthcare connections in one easy step.
There are many benefits an upright MRI scan has over supine and this is your chance to join Professor Francis W. Smith as he demonstrates them live.
Dr Wise will show how using single diode low-level laser light on the cranium can speed up your results, and increase your referrals. He will explain how an acute injury, whether it’s to soft tissue, the spine or another joint, causes an immediate change in the information stored at the location of its cranial reflex. Shining light resets the cranial reflex leading to immediate reduction in pain and a speeding up of the healing process. He will also demonstrate his emotional release points, showing how men and women respond to light on different areas of the brain.
The Point of Light and the Resonance of Sound:
why your protocols should include them both
Upright MRI allows imaging not only when weight-bearing, but also with the spine flexed and extended. This ability makes the diagnosis of specific problems more sensitive than is possible from a supine examination alone. The normal MRI appearances of the spine will be shown in different weight-bearing positions. In addition, a number of case studies demonstrating pathology not demonstrable from supine MRI alone will be demonstrated.
KEYNOTE HALL 1Thursday
12.00 - 12.45
Upright Positional MRI of the Spine
During the past 12 years, Francis has worked to develop its use for imaging the body in the upright, weight-bearing position, demonstrating its value for the evaluation of the spine and weight-bearing joints. He has written over 250 scientific papers and is a reviewer for both The Spine Journal and the European Spine Journal. Francis was the inaugural President of the Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and is a Gold medal recipient of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. He has also been honoured by the British Institute of Radiology, having been awarded the Barclay medal in 1999 and was appointed the Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Memorial lecturer in 2009.

Until the year 2000, Michael worked in the City of London, in various technical roles within the stockbroking and private banking sectors.
This all changed in 2001, when Michael was headhunted to help start up an online stockbrokerage company. This company was quickly snapped up by American Express. Michael remained there in a director role for a further nine years, managing and developing American Express’ online infrastructure.
The variety and scope of this role allowed Michael to gather knowledge across all relevant sectors of the online world, from how to use the internet as an effective marketing tool through to managing datacentres that provide solid, stable and reliable infrastructure and software.
In 2010, Michael formed Leonmedia, an online marketing and web agency that very quickly began to specialise in the orthopaedic and manual therapies sector. Michael firmly believes that an effective online provision is the best marketing tool your practice can have. Leonmedia manage well in excess of 200 websites and provides a full range of agency services including web design, web hosting, search engine optimisation, pay per click, branding, film and videography, graphic design and print.

All too often, your business cards end up tucked away within the dark recesses of someone’s wallet or back pocket, never to see the light of day again – until it’s recycling day. That won’t do much for your practice. 21st century advances have seen developments like Twitter and Facebook enabling us to make new contacts like never before, but there’s still no competition to the good old business card!

As a solution to this age-old problem, we’ve built an enormous wall that will ensure your card will reach the people you want to make contact with.
THE IDEA IS SIMPLE:
1
2
3
Jot down what your practice is looking for – online marketing, new therapy equipment or virtual receptionist etc.
Pin it to the Great Wall, along with your business card.
Come back at the end of the day to collect all the relevant business cards pinned to your own.
The Great Wall.
Putting people in touch, literally.
That’s it! Now you have contact details for the people and companies who can help provide whatever it is that your practice is looking for.
Of course, the system works in the other direction too, so if you see a practice that would benefit from your services, pin your card to theirs and get in touch today!

Brad Burton explains
why his team decided to
offer their format to
our shows:
“What we’ve noticed in the past is that people come to our stands, visit the other stands around the show and listen to the speakers here. And that’s fine, because they get massive value from that. But let me ask you a question. What do you actually need when you’re getting a business going? Sales appointments. That’s what you need. So we’ve put together a format which will fast-track the process of getting those appointments and give you the opportunity, actually at the show, to have a real conversation with other business
owners. No dancing around the handbag, no working out whether you can approach someone based on whether they’re a closed or open group, but straight to the point in 10 minutes of real business.”
During the sessions, any COPA Show delegate will have the chance to:
• Visit our ‘Bumf Table’ to leave Business Cards and other information
• Listen to a short presentation on valuable networking skills
• Have three 10-minute conversations with other delegates - exchanging contact details at the end to follow up after the event

There are hundreds of articles covering finance, software, marketing, admin, HR and professional issues, plus free resources such as business plans and financial templates. Setting up and running your private practice can be a lonely business. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a place where you could share practical business advice and resources with other therapists? Now there is - the Private Practice Hub.

practice for several years. He has a particular interest in software and technology, and how it can help private practitioners run their business smoothly without tying themselves up in knots. The Private Practice Hub is constantly on the lookout for user-friendly technology and they’ve managed to get hold of some brand new software, CPD Click, designed specifically for therapists. CPD Click helps you find, filter and record the CPD courses that are important for you - no more sifting through emails until you find something of interest.
It almost goes without saying that in the 21st century, you need to be online to be in business, but how do you do it well? Start out by following these three simple steps.
1. Get a good website
Every business needs a well laid-out and stylish website. The Yellow Pages recently went into receivership for a reason: your customers will search online for healthcare services. Engage a professional web designer if possible, or use a DIY service such as WordPress. Give key contact information, detail the services you offer, make it visually engaging and use phrases that will help you to be found in web searches.
2. Get social
Complementary Healthcare thrives on endorsement and testimony. Use social media to re-tweet and Facebook good feedback from customers, to answer questions about your services and to very positively
and fairly deal with any complaints or public criticism that is made about your practice. Never criticise customers - even the unruly ones!
3. Get a video
Video improves your Google hits, because Google ‘rates content’. Visitors no longer want to read pages of text, which is why YouTube is the world’s second-largest search engine as users choose to get answers as video.
The way we access the web is changing too, reading on the small screen of a smartphone or tablet is ineffective; increasingly people want to view websites rather than read them.
Don’t be tempted by poor quality video. It represents your business and when it comes to healthcare, no customer wants to take a gamble on an unprofessional looking business. The cheapest video production service on the web is QuickFilms.co.uk, offering set price packages that make professional video affordable for every business.
And the best bit?
The Private Practice Hub is totally free - and always will be! Get your free CPD software at stand number CH406, or for further information, visit www.privatepracticehub.co.uk

■ Look for opportunities to be active during your whole day. For example park at the far end of the car park, or walk one stop further to catch the bus, and take 10 minutes out of your lunch break to go for a walk.
■ Try using the stairs instead of the escalator. If you do use the escalator start by walking part of the way up and gradually progress to walking up the whole way.
■ Choose activities that you enjoy doing. Involve your friends and family to make your activities fun, sociable and enjoyable.
frequency Your main aim is to build up to 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity on 5 or more days of the week. If this seems too much to start with, try starting with 3 x 10 minute walks spread throughout the day and work towards 2 x 15 minute walks and then 30 continuous minutes. One goal is to try and increase your activity by 2 minutes each day.
intensity Moderate intensity means breathing harder and getting warmer than normal. It does not need to be hard and it shouldn’t cause you pain. You should be able to talk and be active at the same time.
advice Whatever your chosen activity, it should be performed at a gentle intensity which gradually increases until after about 10 minutes you have reached the level you can maintain for your chosen period of activity. This gets the blood flowing to your muscles and allows your heart rate to increase gradually. When you are nearing the end of your activity you should also slowly decrease the level of activity over 5-10 minutes to allow your heart rate to slow down gradually.
Remember Set yourself realistic goals and don’t worry if you miss one day. Just make sure that the next day you pick up where you left off.

■ Increased body fat content (obesity, postmenopausal weight gain and fat around the waist) is a risk factor for several common cancers.Improved immune function (the body’s natural immune system) has the potential to destroy tumour cells and prevent tumour growth.More regular and frequent bowel movements - this reduces the amount of time the colon needs to store waste material which
decreases the exposure of tissue in the colon to cancer-causing substances.
■ Physical activity helps reduce many other forms of ill-health such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and being overweight.
■ It also reduces the risk of osteoporosis and the risk of falling.
■ In addition physical activity and a healthy diet, helps reduce stress and improves your feeling of well-being.
