Using FANBOYS to join independent clauses to form
compound sentences
Let's get some definitions out of the way...
Independent clause• A group of words that contains a subject
and a verb and expresses a complete thought.
• Can stand alone as a sentence. For example...• Beyoncé sings very well. • She is a successful musician.
And another definition...
Compound sentence• A sentence which combines two
independent clauses. There are two ways to form a compound sentence:1. Using a semicolon:Beyoncé sings very well; she is a successful musician. 2. Using a comma and a coordinating conjunction: Beyoncé sings very well, and she is a successful musician.
What's a coordinating conjunction?
Coordinating conjunction• A linking word used to combine two
independent clauses to form a compound sentence.

• Beyoncé is beautiful and famous, so she has lots of fan boys.
