In 2009, more than 30,000 families from 45 states and the District of Columbia took part. More than 13,000 hardboiled eggs were hidden on the White House grounds. Showering you with creative cake ideasBridal showers have become almost as big a business as weddings themselves, with bridal parties, friends and relatives throwing huge celebratory bashes to honor the bride … and sometimes both the bride and groom.

While wedding cakes tend to be more structured and formal, shower cakes can be a bit more creative, especially since they typically need to feed fewer people.

The next time someone comes in to order the typical sheet cake for a bridal shower, offer some unique ideas! Maybe a cake that reflects where the happy couple met, or where they will honeymoon. Or a cake that honors a pastime or hobby the couple enjoys together, such as golf, skiing or gardening. If there’s a theme to the shower then, of course, the cake should reflect that theme.

Take a few minutes to get some information and then brainstorm some ideas with the customer. The unique cake will be a hit and so will you!

Have you recently created a unique bridal shower cake? Send us a picture and tell us about it! We might feature it on the Cake Pros® website or in this newsletter.

Have you checked out the hilarious online blog called www.cakewrecks.com? In it, creator Jen Yates has some hilarious examples of “cakes gone bad.” Cakes with misspellings. Cakes with deformities. Cakes that are downright scary.

Surely, as a professional cake decorator, you have a “mist-cake” story in your past – where your intentions were sweet but your results turned sour. Everyone does! Won’t you share yours with Cake Pros®? We’ll print some of the funniest stories in an upcoming Cake Prose® newsletter (anonymously, if you’d prefer). So drop us an email today and tell us about it. C’mon, we’re sure you can laugh at it now – so why not let your fellow Cake Pros® members get a chuckle out of it, too!

Ever made a “mist-cake”?

Here are some creative ideas for wording on shower cakes:

• Love makes the world go round

• A rainbow of good wishes (with a rainbow as art)

• Showering you with best wishes

• When two become one

• Best wishes for a happy life together

• Hand in hand, heart to heart

• The best is yet to come

• Get me to the church on time

• From Miss to Mrs. with our best wishes!
