Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1 Executive SummaryThis Release Note contains information about Control Builder A version 1.0/0, running on Windows NT and Windows 2000. Control Builder A is the successor of AMPL Control Configuration. Control Builder A consists of the components Application Builder, Bus Configuration Builder, and Function Chart Builder. The option On-line Builder and AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries are available.

1.2 How to Use This DocumentIt is recommended that you first read through this document before installing Control Builder A. You find here important information about ways of its usage, its setup types, and requirements and prerequisites for its installation. See Chapter 3, Installation.

You will find this document (Control Builder A 1.0 Relnotes.pdf) on the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD1, in the root directory. The Release Notes of the included Builders are stored below the AdvaBld directory, in last disk subdirectory of the Builder, for example: AdvaBld\Apb\40r0\disk5\Relnotes.pdf. The Release Notes of the Builders will also be copied during installation, so that you always have access to them via Start | Advant | Engineering | Release Notes | Application Builder version, for example, for Application Builder 4.0/0. You can also access the Release Notes of a certain Builder if you start it via the Help menu of the Builder.

This version of Control Builder A is not compatible with older versions of AdvaBuild for Windows.

1.6 RestrictionsThe Control Builder A and its options are based on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.

The following restrictions apply:

• The US English version of Windows NT 4.0 and the US English version of Windows 2000 are supported for working in independent mode.

• The US English version of Windows NT 4.0 is supported for working in cooperating mode.

• When working in a network environment Control Builder A runs in an NT Domain Network running TCP/IP network protocol with a primary domain controller.

• When working in a network environment peer-to-peer connection is not supported.

• Writing of application dump to PCMCIA cards is not supported under Windows 2000.

2.1 New FunctionsControl Builder A covers all the Builders needed for the control configuration of Advant OCS with Master software. Therefore it has no own functions. The functions of the related Builders are described in the corresponding Release Notes.

Chapter 3 Installation

3.1 InstallationNOTES

Every locally installed Control Builder A requires one license.

In case of network installation with multi-user access, the required number of licenses must correspond to the number of established users of the product.This corresponds to the number of client installations.

This document describes the installation via the so-called product setup. That means the setup is structured in the same way as the products which you purchased and for which you got licenses.

The product setup program setup.exe is available primarily in the root directory of the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1, for client setup (see later) it is available in the installation directory on the server.

The product setup is convenient if you want to install more Builders at a time. It reduces the user input, as is starts all selected component setups. Common user input does not need to be entered several times.

Nevertheless, it is possible to start the setup individually for each component and option via the so-called component setup. Component setup means setup component by component. This document does not describe explicitly the installation via the component setup as the component setup procedures show the same dialogs as the (common) product setup.

The setup programs setup.exe for the components are available primarily in the AdvaBld subdirectory of the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1, for example, for the Application Builder in \AdvaBld\Apb\40r0\disk1, for client setup (see later) they are available in the Netsetup32 subdirectory of the component installation directory on the server, for example, in \Apb\40r0\Netsetup32.

The product setup does not cover the installation of AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries. This setup is available on the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 4—or you may have own media (diskettes or CD-ROM) with such libraries—and has to be executed separately. See AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries Release Notes. AMPL PC and DB element libraries are necessary for working with Function Chart Builder.

Section 3.1, Installation informs you about the ways of Control Builder A usage, its setup types, the ways of installation depending on your PC environment and intended Control Builder A usage.

Read Section 3.2, Prerequisites before installation of Control Builder A.

Section 3.4, Setup Description (Short) gives an overview of the installation procedure. For a detailed description see Section 3.5, Setup Description (Detailed).

The setup dialogs in this document may look slightly different for the actual version. They may, for example, show another version string.

3.1.1 Ways of Control Builder A Usage and Setup TypesControl Builder A (CBA) can be used in two different ways:

• In independent mode, when Control Builder A is used without Advant Engineering Workplace.

• In cooperating mode, when Control Builder A cooperates with Advant Engineering Workplace.

NOTE

If you want to useControl Builder A in cooperative mode, you have to have Windows NT 4.0 on the server and client PCs. AEW runs only under Windows NT 4.0, so Windows 2000 is not supported for cooperative mode of Control Builder A, either.

If you intend to work in cooperating mode, you can install Control Builder A also as part of the Advant Engineering Workplace installation. See Advant Engineering Workplace Release Notes.

There are two types of installing Control Builder A (CBA):

• CBA Local Setup (ready-to-use installation)

CBA local setup is recommended if you work with a stand-alone PC. (It may also be in a network, but you work stand-alone with Control Builder A, no other users need to access your Control Builder A installation.) Executables and libraries are stored on your own PC. Project data are stored on your own PC (but they can be stored also on any remote PC when your PC is in a network). This setup type consists of one step described in Section 3.5.1, The Local Setup. This setup type is used for independent mode.

• CBA Client/Server Setup

This type of setup is appropriate if you work in a project with a client/server environment. Executables, libraries, and project data can be stored on a server for multi-user access. This setup type consists of two steps (CBA server setup to be executed on the server and CBA client setup to be executed on each client), see Section 3.5.2, The Server Setup and Section 3.5.3, The Client Setup. This setup type is basically used for cooperating mode. It is also available for independent mode.

NOTE

Do not mix up the upper notions CBA client and CBA server with those used in conjunction with DCOM communication servers and clients, such as the engineering board server being part of On-line Builder and allowing access to AS 100 Engineering Boards installed on a PC for other PCs.

The Control Builder A setup does not cover the installation of AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries. That setup is available on the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 4—or you may have own media (diskettes or CD-ROM) with such libraries—and has to be executed separately. AMPL PC and DB element libraries are necessary for working with Function Chart Builder: If you have installed Function Chart Builder you have to install AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries or similar own PC and DB element libraries thereafter.

Control Builder A 1.0/0 needs Bus Configuration Interface (BCI) version >=3.0/0 and Data Access Object (DAO) version 3.5 from the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1. It will be silently (automatically) installed with Application Builder, Function Chart Builder, and Bus Configuration Builder. In due case, if DAO exceptions occur, you can install DAO 3.5 manually, see Section 3.5.5, Installation of Data Access Objects.

3.1.2 Choose Appropriate Setup Type

3.1.2.1 If You Intend to Work in Independent Mode

Stand-alone PC

You use a stand-alone PC, for example a laptop. No other users need access to your installation. You intend to work in independent mode. In this case choose the CBA Local Setup type. See Section 3.5.1, The Local Setup.

2 PCs in Network with DCOM Communication Servers

You use your PC being part of a TCP/IP computer network. You intend to work in independent mode but also use DCOM communication servers:

– Engineering board server (part of On-line Builder) for access of AS 100 Engineering Boards installed on remote PC and then to Advant Controller 400 Series(Install Control Builder A by CBA Local Setup on the remote PC.)

– Target communication server (part of Function Chart Builder) for point-to-point communication to Advant Controller 100 Series connected to remote PC(Install Control Builder A by CBA Local Setup on the remote PC.)

– CI526/CI527 communication interface module server (for example, part of Advant OPC Server for AF 100) for access of Advant Controller 100 Series via AF 100 Interface installed on remote PC(Install Advant OPC Server for AF 100 on the remote PC.)

Choose the CBA Local Setup type for your PC. See Section 3.5.1, The Local Setup.

PC in Network with CBA Available on Remote PC

You use PCs being part of a TCP/IP computer network. You intend to work in independent mode but also share resources, first of all executables and libraries, on the network: you install Control Builder A—hence necessarily also AMPL PC and DB element libraries—on a server PC and make them available from there for several clients in the PC network.

In this case choose the CBA server setup type when you install Control Builder A (and the necessary AMPL PC and DB element libraries) on this server PC. See Section 3.5.2, The Server Setup. On the CBA client PCs perform the CBA client setup, see Section 3.5.3, The Client Setup.

NOTE

This type of setup and usage is supported by Control Builder A but not allowed by Control Builder A Select.(The latter allows no installation on network drives.)

Special cases:

1. If you want to use the CBA server PC—beside its role as server—also as normal Control Builder A workplace, you have to perform also the CBA client setup on it.

2. It is possible to add DCOM communication services in the network of CBA server and clients: any CBA client can be a DCOM communication server. If you want to use the CBA server PC also as DCOM communication server, you have to perform also the CBA client setup on it.

3.1.2.2 If You Intend to Work in Cooperating Mode

Client/Server Environment

You work in a network environment. You intend to work in cooperating mode, you installed Advant Engineering Workplace already or you install Advant Engineering Workplace and Control Builder A together. Data can be stored on a data server for multi-user access. An example for this configuration is in-house engineering. In this case choose the CBA server setup for the server PC, see Section 3.5.2, The Server Setup. On the client PCs perform the CBA client setup, see Section 3.5.3, The Client Setup.

Start with Stand-alone Configuration, Later Use PC as Server

You plan to work in a networked environment and intend to work in cooperating mode. For test purposes you start with a stand-alone PC. Later this PC shall be used as a server, so that other users have access to it.

On this PC you installed Advant Engineering Workplace already or you install Advant Engineering Workplace and Control Builder A together. Similarly to the installation of Advant Engineering Workplace in such cases, use the CBA server setup, see Section 3.5.2, The Server Setup, thereafter perform also the CBA client setup on this PC, see Section 3.5.3, The Client Setup. Later, other client PCs may perform the CBA client setup to connect them to this server.

Start with Control Builder A Installation Only

You have an Control Builder A installation without Advant Engineering Workplace in a networked environment with a server PC and several client PCs and now you want to install also Advant Engineering Workplace: you have to perform the server and client setup of Advant Engineering Workplace for the server PC and the client PCs, respectively, and as part of these setups repeat the setup of Control Builder A as described in Section 3.5.2, The Server Setup and Section 3.5.3, The Client Setup, respectively.

3.1.2.3 If You Intend to Alternate Between Cooperating and Independent Modes

Alternating Use of AEW Client

You may want to prepare the Advant Engineering Workplace client PCs of an engineering system configuration for alternating use of

• the cooperating mode while working with an Advant Engineering Workplace client PC connected to an Advant Engineering Workplace server PC and

• the independent mode while working with the same Advant Engineering Workplace client PC disconnected from the Advant Engineering Workplace server PC.

This scenario applies if you have an inhouse engineering system with Advant Engineering Workplace and Control Builder A and you want to extract the Control Builder A part of your project to work with your Advant Engineering Workplace client PC out in the plant with CBA in independent mode for commissioning tasks.

Local Availability of CBA Installation on AEW Client

The key issue is to install Control Builder A on the Advant Engineering Workplace client PC locally to have Control Builder A available after having disconnected the Advant Engineering Workplace client PC from the Advant Engineering Workplace server PC.

This installation also improves performance in cooperating mode.

Remarks:

1. A drawback of this installation is that it increases the administration effort due to local storage of the CBA components, for example exchanging an DLL (patch) must be performed on every AEW client PC.

2. The application procedures that have to be followed for the scenario described above are documented in the Application Builder Release Notes.

3.2 PrerequisitesBefore you install and use Control Builder A, some requirements must be fulfilled.

3.2.1 Installation MediaTo install Control Builder A you need the following media:

• AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD1

• AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD4

You may have own media (diskettes or CD-ROM) with element libraries.

3.2.2 Local and Client PC Prerequisites

3.2.2.1 Hardware Requirements

• IBM PC compatible, with at least 90 MHz Pentium CPU

• At least 32 MByte RAM, 64 MByte RAM recommended

• CD-ROM drive for installation of software, unless connection to CD-ROM drive via network

• At least 2 GByte hard disk (for a more detailed description of required disk space see Appendix A, Required Disk Space )

• At least a VGA graphics adapter; 1024 x 768 resolution recommended

• One port for mouse or trackball connection

• One serial communication port for Advant Controller 100 Series connection

• One parallel or serial port for the printer, unless printing via network

• One serial communication port for connection to network if any of the following holds:

– PC is used as client

– PC is used as DCOM communication client and/or server

– Printing via network.

• If this PC is used also as DCOM communication server, there are further requirements:

– Engineering board PU516 (PCI) or DSPU131 (ISA) in case of engineering board server

– One communication port in case of point-to-point communication to Advant Controller 100 Series (the same serial communication port for Advant Controller 100 Series connection mentioned above)

– CI526/CI527 communication interface module in case of direct connection via AF 100 Interface to Advant Controller 100 Series.

Further requirements in case of engineering board PU516 (PCI):

• One free PCI expansion slot, full length

3.2.4 Other Considerations

3.2.4.1 Default Directories

Certain default directories where some start-up files or local configuration files are stored are created during setup. If you do not want to use the default directories you may change them during the setup. Some directories require environment variables if values other than the default names are used. These environment variables are set automatically during setup by the setup program.

NOTES

If the environment variable ADVABLDENV is not set before the setup procedure was started, the setup will set it in any case.

The environment variables listed in Table 3-1 are case sensitive, that is, they have to be written in all uppercase letters.

Normally it is not necessary to change the ADVABLDENV environment variable manually. Use the Control Panel of Windows NT or Windows 2000 to set the other environment variables.

It is strongly recommended that the system environment variable ADVABLDENV points to a directory which is used only by this client PC. This directory may be on a local or a personal network drive.

Exclude all CBA components from the server setup if you do not need CBA on the server for setting up clients that work in cooperating mode only.

AEW Client Installation

1. Install AEW client part on the AEW client PC as described in Appendix B Initial Installation of Advant Engineering Products, Client Setup of the Installation Guide 3BDS004726R501. If available on the server, exclude all CBA components from the client setup.

2. Install CBA locally on the AEW client PC

Alternative 1:

a. Install CBA server part on the AEW client PC using product server setup from CD 1 with a new local destination folder.

b. Install CBA client part on the AEW client PC using product client setup from the local destination folder selecting installation for cooperating mode, entering the server project root.

c. Install AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries on the AEW client PC with the local setup from CD 4.

Alternative 1 is described further in Section 3.5.4, Setup of CBA on AEW Clients for Use in Alternating Modes. It is recommended and supported by Helpline Control-Products.

3.5 Setup Description (Detailed)

3.5.1 The Local SetupAs already described in Section 3.1, Installation, this setup type is convenient, when you want to install Control Builder A on your local PC, other users do not need to access your Control Builder A installation.

Before starting the Control Builder A local setup the following assumptions should be checked:

• You are logged in as a Windows NT (or Windows 2000) administrator locally on the PC.

• The third party product Acrobat Reader is installed on your local PC. If it is not installed yet, install it from the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1.

• If you want to run Control Builder A in cooperating mode check the following items:

– The Structure Builder is installed by server setup on the server PC.

– The Structure Builder is installed by client setup on the client PCs, on one of which the CBA local setup is to be performed.

– The directories with the share names abtool1 and advabld1 are mapped to network drives. For a description of the share names see the Advant Engineering Workplace Release Notes.

Perform the following steps:

1. Start the program setup.exe on the root directory of the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1: <CD-ROM Drive>:\setup.exe After a short initialization procedure the Welcome dialog is displayed.

c. Select Sharing… in the context menu.

d. In the … Properties dialog box select the Share As option.

e. Define a share name in the Share Name field or leave the proposed share name, for example, AdvaBNT unchanged.

f. Click OK.

In case of server setup of Control Builder A for cooperating mode, the preceding Advant Engineering Server Setup defined the following share names for two directories of the server (see Section 3.6.2, Share Names and Mapped Network Drives):

• advabld1It represents the directory for the project data.

• abtool1It represents the directory where the Builders are installed.

Go on with the installation of AMPL PC and DB element libraries or similar own PC and DB element libraries on the server.

3.5.3 The Client SetupThis section describes the client setup via Product Setup. It is convenient if you want to install more Builders at a time.

NOTES

The product setup uses the different component setup programs of the Builders stored under the netsetup32 or netsetup directories of the drive mapped to the installation directory of the server.

It is possible to start each component setup program individually. You may find more information about component setup of the Builders in their Release Notes.

Check whether the third party product Acrobat Reader is installed on the client. If it is not installed yet, install it from the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1.

Preparation for independent mode - mapping the shared directory of the server:

• Remember, at the end of server installation you shared the installation directory of the server under some name, for example, AdvaBNT.

• Map this shared directory to some network drive as follows:

a. Start the Windows NT (or Windows 2000) Explorer. Choose the Tools | Map Network Drive command.

b. Select some free drive name, for example, I:

c. Select the Reconnect at Logon check box.

d. Navigate to the shared installation directory of the server in the Shared Directories list box and select it.

e. Click OK.

Preparation for cooperating mode - mapping the shared directories of the server:

• Remember, the project data directory and the installation directory of the server are shared as abtool1and advabld1. (These shares were established by the Advant Engineering Server Setup.)

• The drive letter must be the same for all users of that client PC for abtool1.The drive letter must be the same for all users of that client PC for advabld1.

• Map both shared directories, one after the other, to network drives as follows:

a. Start the Windows NT Explorer. Choose the Tools | Map Network Drive command.

b. Select the same free drive name on all clients, for example, H: for abtool1and I: for advabld1.

c. Select the Reconnect at Logon check box.

d. Navigate to the shared installation directory of the server in the Shared Directories list box and select it.

e. Click OK.

If the variable is already defined in the system, the next dialog Check Setup Information is started (step 8) and as configuration directory a folder is used where the environment variable ADVABLDENV points to.

The Builders need to copy some configuration files on your local hard disk.

As destination, you can choose the default directory C:\Advabldenv or another directory.

If an environment variable ADVABLDENV is not yet defined in the system, the setup program defines it and sets it to the value defined in the Choose Configuration Directory dialog.

• the cooperating mode while working with an Advant Engineering Workplace client PC connected to an Advant Engineering Workplace server PC and

• the independent mode while working with the same Advant Engineering Workplace client PC disconnected from the Advant Engineering Workplace server PC.

This scenario applies if you have an inhouse engineering system with Advant Engineering Workplace and Control Builder A and you want to extract the Control Builder A part of your project to work with your Advant Engineering Workplace client PC out in the plant with CBA in independent mode for commissioning tasks.

The Local Setup of CBA on AEW Clients - Alternative 1 setup order is the following:

1. Preparation - AEW server setup on the server PC

2. Preparation - AEW client setup on the AEW client PCs

3. CBA server setup on the AEW client PCs

4. CBA client Setup on the AEW client PCs

5. AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries local setup on the AEW client PCs.

3.5.4.1 Preparation - Setup of AEW Server

If there is already a CBA installation of the current version on the AEW client PC, uninstall it using the Add/Remove Programs function of the Control Panel of Windows NT and reboot the PC.

Then perform the following steps:

1. Start the program setup.exe on the root directory of the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD1: <CD-ROM Drive>:\setup.exe After a short initialization procedure the Welcome dialog is displayed.

8. Click Next to open the Check Setup Information dialog.

Check the settings in the dialog. All selected options and components are displayed.

You may click Back to change the settings, or

9. Click Next to continue with the installation of the components and option of Control Builder A installation as selected in step 4.

Some of them may require some additional user input. If you need additional information of the component’s setup see the corresponding Release Notes, for example, the Application Builder Release Notes.

Wait until setup finished with the installation and displays the Setup Complete dialog.

10. Click Finish to exit setup. It is recommended to restart the computer at once.

The CBA server setup on your AEW client PC is now ready.

3.5.4.4 CBA Client Setup on the AEW Client PC

This section describes the client setup via Product Setup. It is convenient if you want to install more Builders at a time.

NOTES

The product setup uses the different component setup programs of the Builders stored under the netsetup32 directories of the installation directory of the CBA server part.

It is possible to start each component setup program individually. You may find more information about component setup of the Builders in their Release Notes.

Make sure that you are logged in as a Windows NT administrator locally on the AEW client PC.

Now perform the following steps:

1. Start the program Setup.exe on the installation directory you did select during CBA server setup.

Example: C:\data\AdvaBNT\Setup.exe

After a short initialization procedure the Welcome dialog is displayed.

Typically you need APB, BCB and FCB for configuration of AC 100 Series controllers and APB, BCB, FCB, and ONB for configuration of AC 400 Series controllers

Select the options and components you want to install, clear the options and components you do not want to install.

5. Click Continue and Next to open the Select Installation dialog.

Select the Cooperating Mode as this is the primarily intended mode of Control Builder A usage.

In the scenario described here this selection allows to work in independent mode, too.

6. Click Next.

The setup program opens the Choose Project Destination Drive dialog:

Select the drive mapped to the share advabld1 on the AEW Server PC.

Later on, if you like to work in independent mode locally on you AEW client PC, you can introduce a local project root using Application Builder.

7. Click Next.

The setup program opens the Check Setup Information dialog.

Check the settings in the dialog.

You may click Back to change the settings, or

8. Click Next to continue with the installation of the components and option of Control Builder A installation as selected in step 4.

Some of them may require some additional user input. Typically ONB component setup shows some further dialogs according to On-line Builder Version Release Notes.1If you need additional information of the component’s setup see the corresponding Release Notes, for example, the Application Builder Release Notes.

Wait until setup is finished with the installation and displays the Setup Installation Status dialog.

9. In the Setup Installation Status dialog click Next to open the Setup Complete dialog:

When the installation of any of the Builders selected in step 4. needs restarting of the client, the setup program prompts you in the Setup Complete dialog to restart at once, or at least to do so later. It is recommended to restart the computer at once.

10. Click Finish to end CBA client setup

3.5.4.5 AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries Local Setup on the AEW Client PC

Install of AMPL PC and DB element libraries from CD4 (or similar own PC and DB element libraries) on the AEW client PC.

The corresponding steps are described in detail in AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries Version 3.0/0 Release Notes.

1. Make sure that you select Local in the Setup Type dialog.

2. Further make sure that you select Typical in the Choose Default Setup Type dialog. This selection will lead to storage of the element reference manuals locally on your AEW client PC so you have them available during commissioning work with the AEW client PC disconnected from the AEW Server PC.

3. After reaching the Setup Complete dialog for the AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries you click Finish.

The CBA client setup on the AEW client PC is ready now.

3.5.5 Installation of Data Access ObjectsControl Builder A 1.0/0 needs BCI (Bus Configuration Interface) version >=3.0/0 and Data Access Object (DAO) version 3.5 from the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1.

It will be silently installed with Application Builder, Function Chart Builder, and Bus Configuration Builder.

In due case, if DAO exceptions occur, you can install DAO 3.5 manually:

Start the setup.exe program from the ..\winnt\dao\disk1 directory of the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD 1.

Proceed as shown in the dialog boxes of the DAO 3.5 setup.

Select the check boxes as shown in the following figures.

3.6.2 Share Names and Mapped Network DrivesThis section describes how to access the server’s directories from the client PCs when working in cooperating mode. Table 3-2 shows an example of the share names and the mapped drives according to Figure 3-39.

Before installing the Builders and before starting them, the network drives must be mapped. The drive letter has to be the same for all users working with that client PC.

3.8 Backup and RestoreFor backup and restore procedures when working in cooperating mode see the Advant Engineering Workplace Release Notes.

This section describes the principles how to backup and restore the contents on the hard disks on your server system and on your client system(s).

It is recommended that you do a full system backup for the following cases:

• Prior to upgrading your client/server system with new software

• After installing new software

• Periodically

Back up your system periodically to minimize loss of ongoing work in the event of a system crash. You can restore the system to the last saved state.

To backup and restore the contents of your hard disk(s) use the Backup/Restore function in the NT Administrative Tools (or in the corresponding Windows 2000 tool) . You will find detailed information in the Backup program’s help description.

To backup your application data use the copy functions of Application Builder to copy the data to a project root on a server. You can also use the Explorer if you want to copy your data to diskettes or another medium.

Chapter 4 Miscellaneous

4.1 Recommendations and Hints

4.1.1 Disk ControllerIf using a SCSI controller and SCSI disks you will have most flexibility in mass storage configuration and expansion. Example: Adaptec2940-A, -AU, AUW

4.1.2 SCSI Devices and AddressesTo be able to use an external disk with drive letter c: you must not use the internal disk at SCSI address 0. The disk with the lowest SCSI address is automatically c:, independent of the selected boot disk drive.For additional external disks on your system we recommend to fix the drive letters immediately after installation, otherwise the assignment is dynamical. In this case the first letters beginning with c: are associated to the primary disk partitions, then the secondary partitions are associated.

4.1.3 NT File SystemThe file system we recommend to create during installation of Windows NT and Windows 2000 is NTFS, so you will have available the new features and higher security.

4.1.4 Booting the PCWhen booting a PC, be sure there is no CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Usually this results in an error message!

4.1.5 Configure Virtual MemoryPlace your paging file on the fastest disk drive. The size of this file shall have the total amount of the RAM plus 50%.If your system has multiple disks, consider creating paging files for each disk. This can significantly improve performance.To configure Virtual Memory select the Change button on the Performance tab in the System Properties dialog box in Control Panel.

4.1.6 I386 PathIt is very useful to have the path I386 from the Windows NT 4.0 (or Windows 2000) disk locally on your disk during the period of installation and configuration. You can directly access these files when drivers or additional libraries are required.

4.1.7 Emergency Repair DiskDo not forget to create emergency repair disks on all client and server PCs when you have successfully finished the installation and configuration.Use the command rdisk -s in a DOS box to include in the backup the Sam-, Default- and the Security files.

4.1.8 Multiple Disk ConfigurationIt is recommended to install all the AdvaBuild Engineering Software programs to one disk. For storage of project data several disks may be used.

4.1.9 DefragmentationIt is recommended to use defragmentation tools for hard disks on the server and client PC periodically.

4.1.10 Temp DirectoryYou should clean your temp directory when you have finished the installation.

Proceed as follows:

Close all applications, delete folders in the temp directory named _istmpn.dir, for example _istmp5.dir. Generally, you should keep your temp directory clean.

Table A-1 and Table A-2 show the required disk space on the server and the client PC. It is assumed that Windows NT 4.0 (or Windows 2000) and other third party products are already installed.

In addition to the Builders you have to reserve disk space for your projects.

If you install the components on one PC, add the space needed on client and server to get the sum of disk space needed for that particular component.
